@JackMurphyRGR@Patriot48@Minou_Demimonde@Tango9"Because in the 1960's commanders didn't send their men off on operations that they were ill prepared for..."
lol, Jack, I almost choked on my morning coffee reading that and then got a rag to clean up the drips of sarcasm. The war of the 60's..yeah that is a standard of excellence to strive for. I think my brother still has a WWII MRE they were feeding them in Nam
@Virginstateofmind no exciting fall story. was in living room and on my way to kitchen with a coffee cup. i have hardwood floors. my shoe didn't turn with my foot and ankle rolled and down i went - hard - landing on right shoulder and arm. doc said older bones break easier.
@Virginstateofmind @StormR @Minou_Demimonde @Julesy Virgin, you asked what I did to myself. I fell down. A simple thing that resulted in a fracture in the right shoulder, a severely sprained left ankle, a banged up right knee and torn and pulled muscles and ligaments in right arm and back. the bruising on arm looks like a really bad three-quarter tattoo sleeve. i'm a mess lol
@Minou_Demimonde @StormR @Julesy It is a bit better each day. I'm walking steady on my feet now and doing PT exercises. Torn muscles hurt worse than shoulder lol Thank you for kind words.
@Julesy Yesterday the xray tech grabbed my shoulder at fracture to move me into position for elbow xray. My sister literally growled and then said 'let go of her'. She scared him and he let go fast. I cried and she gave him look that should have frozen his bones LOL
@Tango9 @StormR @Virginstateofmind Mushies back at ya, T. Will admit that a few times the last couple of weeks being held would have been..don't have words for it. So hold your wife tight because sometimes all one has left in hard times is a feel from a memory.
@Tango9 @Virginstateofmind Don't forget me, T. I'm your pet Hobbit.
@RedHawk @Tango9 Redhawk, there is a special place in hell reserved for the scum who harmed your family member. And Bullet is in a wonderful place being much loved and watching over you still. This I truly believe.
After Aurora, I followed Brandon's recommendation and bought a flashlight, planned how I would use it and practiced with it. Yesterday after Ortho visit, my Sister took me to waterfront park and I sat in sun and let the serenity of the beautiful views soak into me. Some rowdy guys came by and hung around where we were sitting. I realized that as a wobbly older woman in a sling I was a big ole squishy super-soft target. I can walk now but not fast or far. I also realized that my flashlight was in my purse - at home because I can't carry purse yet. The guys made me nervous so we left. Outing was cut short, but I felt safer. Lesson learned was to put flashlight in pocket when I go out because feeling helpless and defenseless sucks.
I had the pleasure of hearing him speak about a month ago in his (and mine) hometown and his statements in the email are consistent with his remarks re women in SOF. Although he spoke with great respect about the importance of the roles women were filling and pride in their accomplishments, he never advocated or stated women should serve in the same capacity as SEALs or Rangers.
@Tango9 @Michael Golembesky @triathlete98 Signed spidey thongs? Will you mail me one if I whimper piteously? I'm getting pretty good at that (she says proudly)
Perhaps I'm just overly cynical this morning, but Brandon's piece pretty well describes the foreign policy strategy throughout my 60+ years, with a few rare exceptions. And it comes darn close to describing our domestic policies as well. It seems we just don't learn. I watched a fascinating piece on TV last night about an official in the Mass. State Police taking the counter insurgencies lessons he learned in Iraq and Afghanistan and implementing them in a really rough neighborhood in Springfield MA. The results were outstanding on many levels and working with a Vet who is a college professor they had hard data to show results. It solidified for me just how spot on that Brandon has been when he talks about this.
@Virginstateofmind it never crossed my mind for a second that your statements were racist and i would chew on anyone that accused you of that. but both sides of the aisle have talking points and i would like you to remember that. i volunteered in my state and city for the 1st obama campaign and worked primarily on the get out the vote piece. those were not the messages we were giving or hearing. as a person of color and vehemently anit-racist - regardless of what color it is directed at - i was very sensitive to the message.
@Virginstateofmind virgin, ii can't tell you how disappointed i am that you actually believe what you wrote. i've not seen you to be that small-minded or that limited a thinker. wish i could have a conversation with you, but it's too big for my one finger left handed typing and somewhat still muddled brain. when i'm healed up i hope you'll talk with me in pm about this.
kudos. sofrep has given me so much more than i could have hoped for or even knew i needed. lots of eye opening info, some painful truths, rose-colored glasses stripped off, some hard won values affirmed. in a seemingly world gone mad, sofrep is an island of reason, connecting the dots in a straight forward way. my thoughts are sometimes listened to and sometimes challenged and that is a great thing. it as also helped me get through the last couple of dark, painful nights when i can go online and read new articles and reread old ones. takes my mind off me and helps give me perspective. it makes me feel a little less incapcitated and helpless. i am failing ebrace the suck today however lol big thanks to brandon and jack and all writers. i'm proudly sofrep mafia and in a couple of months i can wear the shirt to prove it. lol amazing how much i can type with one finger left handed
monsters - all of them. ot - fell down and fractured right shoulder on sunday and a wide assortment of other owiees, so i will not be commenting much. this article needs to be widely shared.
@oldSquid@StormR@Tango9@JackMurphyRGR@ArcticWarrior"IT was a conspiracy involving all three to turn this Country over to Cuba. "
Ah ha.....and I suppose in retaliation, Cuban cigars have been banned ever since.@PeteN@StormR@ArcticWarrior"Nah, I need to walk around in a black suit and Ray-bans, holding a hand to my ear and muttering while I stare at people..."
Ohhhh, good one...much better than my idea :) Here's a true story: After my brother retired from the Marines, one of his gigs was head of security at Bangor. At the time there were lots of protests there because of the nuclear submarines. He was annoyed because he kept getting 'made' in the crowd of protestors. This, of course, was no surprise to me because he looked like a Marine. I bought him a "No Nukes" bright red T-shirt. He wore it to the protests but said it didn't help - they still made him. I suggested it might have something to do with his haircut and the way he walked and barked. He gave up trying to mingle in the crowd :) I do have photographic evidence of him in that T-shirt LOL@ArcticWarrior @StormR AW, I'm thinking of getting a custom T-Shirt for PeteN that says either "I Found Bigfoot and He's Pissed" orrrrr "Bigfoot Found Me". What do ya think?
