@Seenyc try deadlifts and russian deadlifts(he refers to them as stiff leg). if you're not at a gym that has olympic style bars substitute with regular hand weights. if you are able to use an olympic bar the flip grip, or b**** grip as my trainer calls it, will help when lifting heavy weights. as women our forearms aren't as strong as guys so getting a good grip on the bars\ with heavy weight can be a challenge. but these will definitely work out your lower back. on a side note, my thighs & buns have never looked as good as they do when i'm doing olympic style doing deadlifts & squats!

@mzsunshine my doc told me that when i crave sugar my body really needs protein. maybe try upping that. it helps me when i do that. although i too fall off the wagon. i love my sweets :)
@Karla I didn't even look at the comments till I read your response. Although her site is the more credible of black entertainment news, I normally don't read any of the comments there b/c in general they're just ignorant.

Random, but can I say I just wish I'd heard more from you in Atlanta? The moderator was a bit long winded and took away from your time. When you did speak it was really insightful and there was a lot to be gleaned from it.

@Karla Yea one of my friends at work found out I like Korean action flicks and recommended it to me. So glad he did. Also liked Lady Vengeance and The Man with No Name. And although its not an action movie I really enjoyed the TV show "Pasta." Very male dominant but other than that good.

@Law Wanxi is it weird that i loved this film as a child? and yes i was a child in elementary school when i saw this. other childhood favorites: Sybil and Flowers in the Attic. my mom would call me downstairs and inform me whenever these movies were on. why did my parents let me watch this stuff? lol
so i'm kinda super excited about this. spike lee and samuel l jackson are doing a remake of "oldboy!" I love slj, kinda on the fence about spike lee directing it. i think tarantino would do a better job making it nice & gory while keeping the ending as is. spike might keep it, but i could totally see him caving to the studios about it. still super excited!!

Curlers? No, i don't even own any. When I'm out I'm presentable at the least. My one exception is the gym. I go there to sweat. I mean sweat dripping off my face, arms and legs. There is no glistening. Things commonly yelled in class "This isn't Crossfit, it's Coachfit!" "If you're not cursing me out I'm not working you hard enough!" There I wear old workout pants and shorts, as well as various oversized t-shirts I've gotten for free from work over the years. I don't care if I don't look trendy or cute cause I'm there to work. And I can't wipe the sweat off my face with a sleeveless workout shirt lol.

I was reading about this last night. At first I thought, oh this is kinda awesome. Even though the children might look obviously "white" that doesn't mean that they couldn't have come from a black mother and it shouldn't be seen as an issue. Then the whole "get a job," comment seemed to throw in the angry black women stereotype which threw me off. But like other posters have said I will reserve judgement till I see how this plays out on screen.

I started playing soccer in high school and haven't stopped since. My freshman team was a really great mix ethnically(black, white, Hispanic & Asian girls). As I've gotten older the amounts of representation from all groups fell off. Whether playing intramural soccer in college or in a women's rec league outside of school I would find myself either the only or one of two black women playing on my teams.
I'm not really sure what causes the lag. I definitely agree that money creates a bigger divide in accessibility of AAs in general to some sports. We're only recently starting to see olympic level black swimmers(male).
Personally I signed up for soccer because I didn't think I had enough extra curriculars. I completely fell in love with playing and continued to do so. On the other hand my parents tried to get my sister to play basket ball in high school but she wouldn't do it.
