For everyone commenting on the "First Blockbuster" section of the title, realize that I am speaking figuratively making a statement that Star Trek surpasses the other blockbuster this year, Iron Man.

@Matrixlord212 Didn't forget about Iron Man 3, I just think that this film should be the "first" true blockbuster in comparison.

@jimmy It was a joke coming from Jimmy Kimmel yes but Abrams answer was a truthful response.

@Alan316 Like I said, we appreciate any comments good or bad.  Thanks for your input, we do appreciate true discussion.

Based off your points though, I can agree with you to an extent.  When writing for the viewers who know nothing about than the film other than media circulating the web, there are areas of the review that will be vague.

From your perspective, you could also argue that the trailers for the film itself are misleading by misrepresenting characters in the film which is worth addressing.

@Alan316 I think proper grammar could be your friend as well.  What I've gathered from your grammatically challenged rant is that you think we are blogging from our yachts sipping champagne and that we missed one of the most apparent and controversial elements of the film.

We are aware of The Mandarin, what he represents in the film, and why he is what he is in the film.  The reason we do not go into detail about The Mandarin as he is represented in the film is because that is a MAJOR SPOILER and it is not fair to reveal that to our readers.  If you would like a plot synopsis please check out a spoiler site.

We encourage disagreement and expect it as these are our opinions.  What we hope is that we give our readers an informative analysis prior to their viewing.  If our opinion is in line with the thoughts of the reader then great, but if not then we still encourage discussion which is what we love.

Feel free to challenge us at any point, we love to read your comments, good or bad, just please properly prepare your comments by fully reading the post so you don't miss something.  Thanks.

@JamesM Totally agree with you Jim.  I saw the post while I was away from the computer and flagged it as a reminder to delete it when I got back.

That kind of language is not something we stand for and in fact I banned the user from commenting again.  Thanks for your continued support of The Movie Blog!

@Elliot Hopper Thanks, glad you enjoyed it as well.  I was honestly reconsidering attending the screening from how much the scare factor was built up in the red band trailer...haha.

@JonHedoesIt Everyone is entitled to their opinion but playing to simple, stereotypical elements are typical in this film.  Like I stated, the plot is simple, which would account for the lack of dramatic effect that you described.  If you or someone else didn't recognize this film's intentions, I could see how you would describe it as boring.

@Concerned Worker HAHA, ages?  2012 is ages ago?  I would like to be the first to apologize to you for the posting of an indie film that some may not know about.  I guess that the desire to share this trailer for further exposure has forever scorned the site.  I think after reading this detailed, critical comment that I may just start posting funny pictures of cats instead, since we CLEARLY don't know what we're doing with movies...

@DisneyFan73 Marc Webb does like his dance scenes so it's not off the table.  If you've seen 500 Days of Summer you might remember a similar strut from JGL to a Hall and Oates song...

@WillLambert That's an interesting idea, taking Harry from Green Goblin (II) and making him Venom.

@JamesM It's definitely worth your time to see it.  I would say especially if you're a zombie hater because it's not your typical brand of zombie.  It's more of beauty meets beast kind of story with just the right mix of humor.  Go see it!

@Elliot Hopper It was definitely a surprise, but 8 or 9 would still seem a little high for me, but I can definitely see it affecting others in a way where they might score it that high.

The Twilight reference actually came from the buzz surrounding it around the web.  Many were expecting this to be Summit's version of Twilight to keep the momentum going.

I actually had a lot to say about this film that would be very long winded if I put everything into the post.  The soundtrack was very good, I'm glad you mentioned it!

Seriously!!!  I miss Sarah Michelle Gellar...I miss Buffy!  You're spot on with that and her husband is a massive comic nerd so she's probably pretty well educated on the character...

Ha, you beat me to the punch on this.  I understand your dislike of Abrams and I think that it's a love/hate relationship I have with him as well because expectations are so high due to his talents.  To be honest, I can't think of another director that would make me more excited about the franchise.

If we can get the same effort for the new Star Wars trilogy that we got from Star Trek, I think this could be very exciting times for the franchise (despite the rushed production schedule).  I can see some amazing space battles and I have faith in his abilities in sci-fi story telling but I am curious to see how the lightsaber choreography turns out.  I'm just glad they finally have a director!

@colinskim It's called ACTING.  Women play men, men play women, adults play children, and honestly your comment holds no weight towards any sort of a review.  The roles they play are ageless in regards to the plot and theme and even if they were specified as being 15 years apart in the film, I would still say your point is moot.  The on-screen chemistry was there, that's what matters.

@JamesM HAHA, to each his own.  I personally hate most anything that Sarah Jessica Parker is affiliated with (so a bit of a bias there),   I enjoyed "The Holiday" and I could see how people would consider it, and"Fred Claus" just didn't do it for me and the same with "White Christmas".

Christmas lists are going to be different for everyone because it goes beyond the quality of the film, it's the Christmas experience that people relate to those films.  I have a particular experience that is associated with each one of those films and that is how I composed my list.
