Yeah, Trayvon always had that option, too. Few people seem to be able to grasp this, especially anyone claiming Zimmerman was "the aggressor". Trayvon could always have called the cops himself and started a report that some strange guy was following him. He chose not to.
Why not?
The real fact is, this was a total cluster-eph the moment they came in sight of one another. The result quickly spun out of almost anyone's reasonable expectations as to the possible results of their action, unless Zimmerman IS actually guilty of Murder-1. BOTH individuals had choices that could have radically altered the outcome in everyone's favor. Unfortunately for both, one lies dead, the other has his life defacto ruined -- even if he is totally acquitted, Zimmerman is still going to be involved in a civil suit and probably a civil rights suit, it would seem likely, and, if you ask anyone who has ever been in a lawsuit, they are anything but pleasant, even when you're fully in the right and have lots of evidence on your side.The real problem is -- instead of this being a learning moment for pretty much everyone reading about it, it's turning into a racist hate fest, and the media is doing just about everything possible to fan those flames.
