@Ron_Watson Video is hard, because it has to compete against all other video content on the Web. But deep is a good way to go. Sounds like the challenge is in marketing, and in tapping into the networks that will help your content get the viral kick it needs. Good luck with it, and thanks for the feedback.

@HamzaShaban Yes, I think you're broadly right about Medium, but it is at least instituting the tools required to encourage "slow media" – notably, collaborative editing functions and a distraction-free CMS. It also isn't slave to chronological order.

Both Longreads and Longform curate other people's stories, but that act alone places value on slow media. They recognize the worth in "forgotten" stories, which they help prolong the life of. No obsession with the new.

Thanks for your comment, and for reading.

@traderjoe55 Bought 'em at $3 and just decided to offload so I don't have to worry about disclosures like this in the future. Better to keep it simple. Still think not a terrible investment.

@GlennFleishman @hamishmckenzie I think the problem is that I need to clarify my statement. I did not mean at all to suggest that The Magazine was even remotely interested in becoming a platform. I'll clarify it.

Atavist is different in that it doesn't offer a product that enables everyday people to publish their own magazines for free or very cheap.

@GlennFleishman Thanks Glenn. Marco has never responded to any email or tweet I've sent him. if you feel strongly about the "he might have saw something coming" comment, I'm willing to change it. No offense intended.

I don't think The Atavist should be included in this post because its platform is intended for commercial clients.

@Astar291 As tempted as I am to leave that typo so that it reads "stop online privacy" – which I could perhaps explain away as a subversive dig at Facebook – I will bow to the lords of grammar and spellcheck and correct the error. Thank you for pointing it out.

Arguing that editorial staff be aware of budget issues (uncontroversial and obvious) is not the same as an argument for the blurring of the lines between the editorial and the sales teams.
