Although i'll give the favouritism for tomorrow for NOLE because he is number 1 and hasn't lost a match this week
i do have to say, if federer was playing to his best ON THIS SURFACE we wouldn't even argue his victory tomorrow, but as he has SOME flaws, i feel like right now his serve is in a up and down and his feet sometimes LOOSE energy and he ends up a bit stiffy on court, i'll give federer some chances IF he can keep a good footing work throughout the entire match and he can serve at least @ 65% because nole is just such a good returner
@Dropshot Federer has been having a lot of problems
the MAIN one, his serve, if federer doesn't get to at least 65% 1st serve percentage then he hAS NO CHANCES
i know something about roger, when his service is working it's like the rest of his game follows that up AND EVEN more on this conditions(FAST & INDOOR) where he relly doesn't need to push it that hard to make damage to his oponents
His first test will be TOMORROW, against Delpo, although delpo is not an OFFENSIVE returner as Djokovic and Murray, Delpo is an amazing offensive baseliner, and he will put into test whether roger can or cannot win on the weekend
never the less, i still think that roger can fix his serve problems, i mean, he has faced number 9 & 5 in the world and beaten them both in straight sets WITHOUT a decent 1st serve % or a good baseline game, so. it's incredible how much he can improve
Although i'm happy with federer's win, this match was supposed to go this way
i mean, this is arguably one of roger's best surfaces, has only lost 2 matches on this conditions adding season 2010, 2011 and 2012, winning 6 Titles in the process
Tipsarevic's speed was just like a quick lunch for roger, there's just no discussion
i will be interesting to see roger play delpo again on friday, and i think he "should" have no trouble in winning against Ferrer on Thursday, but i remember than EVEN last year on this same event Ferrer gave quite a bit of a good 2 set fight to a roger that last year looked a lot better than this year on this same event
@dranirban delusional Rafa won't even make it to 250 weeks as number 1, that's the truth tea... rafa has only been 2 years as number 1 and when he returns he'll have to face 2 rivals that are very settled down to their new spot as top 2.... Federer's still the goat and if Roger doesn't have the olympics the rafa DOESN'T HAVE A SINGLE WTF
yes djokovic has the best chances of finishing as world number 1, yes djokovic has had a more consistent year in slams yes, YOIUR ARE RIGHT
but, is there a problem that federer wants it too? he still mathematically can!, i mean if these sportmen were MEDIOCRE they wouldn't be AT THE TOP of their game
I CAN assure you that Murray's main goal for next year is to become Number 1 in the world he has already proven himself that he can beat any of his 3 other contestants
djokovic said after the US OPEN that he wanted the 1 back, was he wron saying it ??? NO, they are ambicious, they want that 1st place, they are the best of thir game and they want the top, there's no crime in that, that's just sane competitivity
although even if roger wins Basel, Paris & Undefeated WTF it's highly unlikely for him to finish as world number 1 because djokovic has only 660 points to defend, around 100 or so of those will leave because he's skipping basel and he has SFs there to defend
but, do you really beleive roger's body can handle 3 WEEKS IN A ROW, i don't anyway i wish him the best of luck because after all THIS GUY HASN'T LOST AN INDOOR FAST COURT MATCH SINCE November 2010 against Monfils so... you can't say he's not the favourite for these tournaments as long as his body resist
@Drop shot he shoudl give up basel this year and play shanghai instead
@Drop shot i am a federer fan and i know most of those who are know dissing on olympics would be bragging if roger had won that final...
Federer obviously needs a rest, i know he can't give up on Basel, but the perfect thing would be to play Shanghai and then take a couple of weeks and go back to back to paris-bercy and WTF
if one thing iam sure but it is that roger can't play 3 tournaments in 3 weeks in a row
@Jane the RF fan pretty much this, Davis cup is a lost cause, if there was a player to help him in the top 10 then i would say, okay roger keep trying because it might happen, but hE CAN'T win DC by himself
Djokovic as of today is more likely to finish as 1 at the end of the year than roger, roger will need to play and AT LEAST win 2 tournaments(WTF and something else) but roger will need the WTF in order to finish as World Number 1 for this year
Nole leads the race by something around of 1000 points and Roger leads th ranking by something around 1300 points.
Federer Defends 3000 points in 3 Tournaments (Basel, Paris-Bercy & WTF) and the week between Paris and WTF has been CUT DOWN this year, so these 3 tournaments are played in consecutive weeks, ergo, federer will at least lose one of these 3, although HE WILL play Shanghai this year so he might get some points there
I Hope roger finishes the year as number 1 but if it is nole is well deserved because he has been more consistent in slams than roger this year
This is not good news nor bad news for Roger, the truth is his body could well use a rest the bad news is that HE WILL have to be TOP for his QF match against Berdych
Why is good: If he defeats him in 3 sets the federer will have a VERY fresh body for the weekend, if a lot of people don't think roger can pull this US OPEN Is because of the format SFs & Final are played, and roger's body isn't what it used to be, i really don't see federer winning in 3 over murray, i could see 4 if he plays really well and then facing djokovic who will probably reach the final very healthy, djokovic's draw is very easy imo
The bad: if he goes through a long match against Berdych(wich could happen) he could have a hard time recovering before facing murray, and if he goes througfh a bad match against berdych he could lose, Tomas is playing very good tennis, Federer needs to be 1at his 00%
The Body will be the key because his tennis is working pretty well, We all know how the US oPEN is played, Sturday SFs and Then The Final on sunday, he will need a 3 setter or 4 setter TOPS on saturday and avoid any injury for sunday
I don't think he is the clear favourite BECAUSE of his body, The COURT differences between Him and the other guys are based on he can sustain a body level to theirs so he can beat them in tennis, we all saw what happened in Olympics and in his 4th round match @ Wimbledon if he plays a long match the next he'll be waiting for someone to decide wether he stays or not
Although i am Roger's fan i wouldn't be so sure about his voctory, IF he has to play Murray & Novak in consecutive days[AS we all know that is what happens on US open, SFs on Saturday and Final on Sunday] he will have to play mostly perfectly, because his body has proven to be suffering the age, We don't know where murray is right now, and Djokovic was slaying untill he played that match against roger in Cincy...
GO ROGER GO FOR THE 18TH
Roger is as Favourite as Djokovic is for the US OPEN, here's why:
If Roger plays clean and has maybe only 1 or 2 4-setters on his way to the SFs then i can think of him winning, but we ALREADY seen what his body suffers after a LONG MATCH, he will recover, but he needs some days(3-4) we all saw what happened to him against Malisse, the same happened with Murray and of course he wasn't so lucky to have a "shaky" adversary, that's my theory if roger enters "Super-saturday" with a very clean road, he'll SLAY THEM ALL
Djokovic is still the player with the best body, he will enjoy playing those long matches and when the time comes to face roger he will make sure that even if he is going down on the scoreboard he is draining roger's body, for him latter to attack
And Murray, if he recovers and has a mind-set like the one he had in Wimbledon and Olympics then he will have a run for their money
As A Federer fan i wish for him to continue winning as long as posible, let's all be honest, we KNOW the only reason federer came back is because he started to get motivated by olympics, he had been talking about it since 2010, he lost a tough one against Nole @ USO2011 last year and he pulled himself together and started beleiving hecould do it again, anyway, this will only last as long as Roge keeps himself motivated and Trains to keep his body as fit as it can be for a 31 year old tennis player who's body is already very good and very "injure-free" most of the time compared to his conteporaries and even younger players, i dunno what will happen in 2013, but if roger keeps this he will for sure end this year as 1
wELL the OLD-Goat of the "Weak Era" is defeating an "at his peak" young stud of 25, i must say that "weak-era" is starting to look a bit stronger for the haters any day now
WHEN WILL YOUR FAVES AT 31?
rankings mean very lil' mostly this year where i imagine murray will surpass rafa because of rafa's absence, i want to see murray at the US Open, that's gonna be interesting
I Miss Nadal, he is surely always a treat to watch with his attitude on court and his winning shots from far baseline and running like crazy everytime, he is just so fun to watch
ffh
so next week in cincy Roger & Nole, no rafa and no andy, i hope ALL 4 OF THEM TO BE HEALTHY FOR THE US OPEN
i knew that murray wasn't going to be capable of hold it in canada, he has to defend cincinatty and just played on sunday in london, he should've missed the tournament and avoid the rush just as federer did, djokovic is different, he is releived we have arrived his favourite conditions, Hard, outdoors, fast & hot
