"Rafa" was an excellent read. If you thought the above article was interesting you would probably love the book.
"Mentally tone deaf", maybe? Most of my Polish friends would have a laugh and probably agree. Isn't that one of the things we love about the them? Caroline is a great athlete and she's having fun. She'll still be happy with or without a slam title.
Glad to hear that Rafa's is working to adjust his routine. Umpires should use discretion, especially after longer points, but I think it's better for everyone to have the match flow a little faster between points.
Nadal is a great player to watch, but does he really need to towel down after every single point?
I always think of the bad comments on the radio he made about the female tennis players. It was hard to believe the tennis channel kept him employed after that.
Thanks for the response. Anyone who loves the sport should want to see Rafa return 100% healthy.
I think the last thing Nadal wants is to dramatize his knee problem. Do you honestly think a player like Nadal, who loves to compete and win, would take months off of competition and miss a grand slam event, if his knees weren't an issue? Players with injuries don't want to talk about their injuries!! I'm not aware of a surgery that eliminates knee tendonitis, as was suggested. Nadal was clearly bothered after his most recent win in South America when the announcer asked about his knees. As is the case with this article, it's not Nadal who continues to bring up the subject. You don't need to be a Nadal fan to appreciate and respect what he brings to tennis. And I do believe his absence at tournaments is felt. Hopefully, Nadal will soon return to the great player he was !
Sloane is sweet treasure for young American women's tennis; very likable and a lot of fun to watch!
That last short paragraph was hilarious! I agree with Djokovic, too. Hopefully, none of the top tennis players make the same ridiculous mistake that Armstrong made!
Doesn't Federer have the record for reaching at least the semi-finals of more consecutive majors than any other player? I believe he still hasn't lost before the quarter-finals at any grand slam for a long, looong time.
It does look like Djokovic starts the year as the guy to beat. Murray has momentum from winning the gold and picking up his first slam. I think he can beat Djokovic in a slam if he plays more aggressive. It will be cool if someone outside the big four can penetrate into the finals of a slam ? Maybe Del Potro, Tsonga, or one of the younger guys ?
Right, the wear and tear though is even worse with Rafa because he made it so far into all the five set tournaments. I think Rafa's team should have advised him to shorten some points or even gave longer breaks during the year.
Rafa will be wise to wait a while longer to return. It's amazing, with his style of play, that he has recovered from tendonitis in his knees, so often and so quickly. Has there ever been a player that has consistently played longer and more gruelling five set matches? The stomach virus probably gives him good reason/excuse to further delay his return. The injury will take longer to recover from as he ages; he should take the time he needs.
Ladies, get a clue!!! Tennis players make fun of each other all the time!! Nothing racial about. period.
Take the time you need, Rafa. Come back when you feel ready and light up the tour again !
You have to appreciate Novak's honesty. It was pretty clear when he didn't win a game in the first set against Federer in the Cincinnati finals that his focus wasn't there. It's not an excuse when he said he needs a break to be in top form for the USO.
Several years ago in New York at the US Open, I left a match I was watching on one of the smaller courts because I heard Roger Federer was signing autographs near the practice courts. When I finally got the practice courts, Roger had just finished giving signatures and started walking away. I called over to him twice as he had walked about ten yards away from where I was standing. To my amazement, he turned around and came back to sign his name on my US Open ticket. It was a small kind gesture, but I think it speaks to his genuine nature.
I think he does have champion caliber emotional control. He has had issues in past slam finals but I think once he crosses over with a final victory at a major or a gold medal victory, his control will be even better. He needs to beat Federer for the gold; no reason now why he can't!!
Murray, win this please!!!!!!!
