@Osaka17 http://wwww.signonsandiego.com/news/2008/dec/28/1s28canepa004128-alex-spanos-says-his-memory-fadin/?page=1 here is the article about our Greek owner and Nick Canepa.though he does look Jimmy the Greek, Canepa is of Italian descent, according to his article above. Interesting point on Norv, but players come and go, even a 2-14 team could be said to have a coach who never "lost the locker room." So it is really two different things, winning and being a players coach. It would be interesting though to hear from some malcontents. I am not a #keepNorv apologist, but I think there is a lot of truth to his players never quitting on him. Maybe that's because we never had the great players w/ super sized egos. This goes more toward accountability and guys just being happy to cash a check along with lack of coaching and lack of player development. In the end, it is possible to never have lost the locker room and still have a half ass coach. Maybe that's the new norv norm in the NFL, in laid back organizations like AZ &SD, ?
@Lucab12 @AntonioGrilloNeto BR has been successful but your right about comments, just a grade above Yahoo message board fodder
sdjeff: Good point on adjustments, its one thing to be outplayed, but outfought and out-thought are not acceptable. Especially since the legacy of the Bolts is Bambi, Air Coryell and great passing. Forget the Raiders, we practically invented the long bomb. SD is the birthplace of the modern passing game. Hard to watch as the new breed QB, read offenses take precedent, hopefully a passing fad, no pun intended. The off season will be fun, with the draft and mini camps. FA signings at CB, everything looks good, remember, we might still have the youngest QB in the division.
With regard to LT's rejuvenation it was mostly in the passing game with NYJ. Yet, I remember countless passes towards LT which Rivers wasted via inaccuracy. That game was so weird in 2010, in the first half Sanchez looked like he was a HS QB then he became Joe Namath in the 2nd half. Poor game planning, yes by Norv, should have been a home game O juggernaut.
As far as the triumvirate, I think the biggest benefit will be clock mgmt, at which Norval was horrible. Hopefully McCoy delegates this just like red flag review.
We will find out quickly if Rivers has changed, as progress would involve a 4th QTR comeback which has also not been seen in almost 4yrs. If he can't get one next year, its time to move on, lack of mobility, turnovers, and the inevitable 4th QTR loss will seal his fate, or with a comeback rejuvenate PR.
@Lucab12 Wait we can't fire our OC(during season) because he is the HC, gotta hand it to Norv for parlaying job security
@Lucab12 funny thing, the other day I was just revisiting the box-score from that ill fated Marty Cam choke day, Never trust the bible thumpers like Cam in my view, we are always screwed when the coaches answer to a "higher source" Goddammit this is football for crisakes! Cooper and Company had Peyton's number, we were destined for SB Glory! Oh well how long we will wonder the wilderness now. At least we are under the radar now. I am looking at what could have been. AJ has got to go, because its starts a clean slate, no more Martyball connection, no more Norv
It was good to end the historical domination at Pitt, other than that--- the Chargers will find a way to make the last game against Oakland more meaningless than we think now. They are who we thought they are, and please exit Stage right, Norv and AJ, Nice to see Norv advocating for his assts., in the post game presser. Since Carolina has nothing on the line, look for Cam Newton to showcase his talents in San Diego. Since they beat ATL, and ATL thrashed SD at home, it should be like 55 to 10 right? Wish Dean had some cajones though, We Bolt fans are in an tough situation, while rooting for the team, and yet 99.9 percent wishing for the NT and AJ to go. Please make it end oh Football gods. Bmore fires OC Cam, Phila has run out of asst., coaches to let go and SD in the middle wait interminably, grasping at Acee's "scoop" .
Deja Vu all over again from Acee:http://bleacherreport.com/tb/d96np?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=newsletter&utm_campaign=san-diego-chargers
@Osaka17 @Lucab12 T J Simers is relentless in his critique of the "Spanos Goofs" but he is in LA, The UT has issued an edict to make nice on all matters so that Super Developer UT Owner Doug Manchester can get a sweetheart deal with the City and the then the Bolts and build a stadium on the water front. The whole media thing here sucks because Manchesters buddy John Lynch(safety's Dad) also owns the sports talk radio station. Used to be you could get good critiques from the North County Times, but they too have been bought out by the UT, so its tough really anywhere to get someone to criticize San Diego Chargers. No media watchdog, small market, equals zero accountability.

David Shaw, Stanford's head ball coach, who loves to run the FB, is the latest rumored prospect for San Diego.
@Lucab12 I love the "World Champions" We will never know, but I(and many other folks) bet they would have beaten the Bears that year, too bad Papa Bear didn't line up a game with Gilman. Back then, there was a lot of bad blood between the upstart AFL and the established NFL. Anyway, that's an integral part of being a Charger fan, the shoulda, coulda woulda part.
http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/sdg/1963.htm
is the ring in the collage from the old AFL championship? With Chuck Noll as the D coordinator who knows, maybe the bolts would have beaten the bears?
@Osaka17 But, as bad as Rivers has been, he will show some of his past goodness, since there will be no pressure the next 4 weeks. Over a period of 3-4yrs, the end of which Ross says Rivers has us ALL fooled, he had the top QB rating in NFL History. I guess you don't give up on that easily. However a new coach will undoubtedly have a short leash on Phil Palpably Panicked Rivers, Couple that with the plethora of good young college QB's coming out these days(due to the pro set offenses in NCAA) and maybe its a quick turnaround. Who knows maybe a new GM would trade PPPR?
Does Holmgren even want to coach again?
When Rivers moves right or left, instead of stepping up, he is the worst in the league, worse than other older QB's Manning or Brady.
I was wondering about the points system, like 5pts vs how do you get 21pts?
@boltrunner He's not going to be Brady or Manning, so really the window has closed on PR, who has terrible pocket presence and zero mobility. The new guys, Rodgers, even Brees, have great results on the move, once Rivers doesn't have 8 seconds to pass in a clean pocket, its game over.
Yeah, and the KC fumble cost us a playoff spot, and they still bring Norv back because Rivers saved his neck. Its a new low being a bolt fan.
Nobody has heard from Deano so nobody knows what's up his sleeve, more mediocrity probably. If AJ is retained the coach has to have some level of independence, yet the ability to get along with AJ's EGO. Then again, I still think Spanos has to take the Chamber of Commerce approach, this is a great city, great fans, great weather(who cares about Stadium right now), That would seemingly attract both a good GM and coach. BTW: How the hell do you get pts on the blogosphere?
Rivers has turned into an embarrassment on the NFL front, Twice yesterday, a Rookie named Russell Wilson came back and beat the vaunted Bears D. If we are going to go 8-8, 5-11 etc etc etc, I would rather have a QB who can scramble and better yet, think on his feet. The palpable panic that Rivers exudes is just deplorable, 1st and ten with plenty of time, two TO's and it's 4 straight no chance passes to the end zone when the middle was open all day for a first down. Ironically, the best memory Phil will ever give us was toughing it with no knee and no mobility in the AFC championship. Then the sacks, ever heard of a screen pass to diffuse the pass rush? No it's gotta be interminable launch pass, rearing the arm back and fumbling. This thing is a disaster and the Bolts will wander the wilderness now for years, unless there is a new owner, I agree with you closing, it all starts at the top. Denver, KC, and even Oakland do not abuse the fan base like this.
