Mike Goff on the BBB. Mike McCoy has gone goofy.

When I suggested that Rivers should throw for 7 touchdowns I was only half joking. Rivers has the talent and the weapons to get that done especially against the hapless Raiders. But what I have come to believe in the last six weeks is that unimaginative play calling has hurt our once great offense. McCoy and Reich seem unable to prepare or adjust to any decent defense. I know our line sucks but you can't tell me that the Patriots offensive line is that much better than ours. That goes for Pittsburgh and KC also. Our problem is both execution and game planning. Our offense looks lost. "Vanilla" doesn't begin to describe how bad the play calling is. Every defense we face seems to own our offensive playbook. We fool nobody and our lack of creativeness will get Rivers killed.
I already have McCoy on the hot seat and next year could be his last. Telesco will not wait for McCoy as long as Smith waited for Turner. I tell you this, if we do not beat the Rams this week McCoy will be put on notice behind the scenes.

Suckass offense. Solid defense. The Rams won't be as kind.

Ross, I am looking forward to "Dark Side of the Mule".
Some Southern California flavor, "Bolts Brown Bag".
Time for Rivers to get into the act and throw for 7 TDs. Hey why not!!!

As you know, the last time we got our asses kicked like this was in 1999. 34-0 at the Chiefs. Our head coach was Mike Reily and we finished 8-8, missing the playoffs. Looking at the 99 roster It's hard for me to believe that we are THAT bad.

Might as well face it. Our offensive line is still untalented. They possess neither the ability nor the will to overcome defensive pass rushes or even simple match ups when attempting to run the ball. As I have said before, if not for Rivers ability to step up in the pocket before he lets the ball fly, he would be sacked 50 times, easily.
It's all irrelevant any way just like this team.
@Lucab12 Oh, this year is over!
Ross, there is only one thing I think of after a loss like this. Telesco has a lot of work to do.
Looks like another frustrating day of watching a terrible offensive line and a mediocre defense.
Time to end the drought

Love the Allman.
Thought this was nice.
Marshall is gone. Guess they saw what we saw. Hard to watch that film I'll bet.

Ross, I was thinking the same thing about the running game and the corners.
Here are a few of my thoughts a day after the beatdown.
1. Our guards suck. They have sucked for years. This needs to be addressed more seriously. Watt is not the answer. Getting Dunlap at LT has helped to protect Rivers. Dunlap is a huge surprise to me considering he sucked in Philly. Fluker has become a disappointment to me. He is too slow against a fast defense. Miller ate him up. And I have seen him get chewed up by guys not as good as Von Miller. Move his ass to RG where he can be a stud and get a new RT.
2. Hate to say it but we need Mathews healthy. I was overhyped about Oliver. But I am glad he got the chance and I think he can be as good if not better than Woodhead. Because our offensive line cannot protect up the middle causing Fluker to help, Oliver had to chip someone as he was going out for a pass almost every time. If Oliver had been able to just run a route without having to block someone I'm sure he would have been more effective.
3. Our linebackers, suck, suck, suck. What has happened to that position. I know we have had a lot of injuries but Te'o and Ingram are who we are holding our breath for to return?! Johnson, Freeney are too old. Butler and Te'o aren't good enough. Te'o and Ingram are always injured. That position is in shambles.
4. We all know about the secondary. Even outsiders know about the secondary.
5. Rivers and our receivers are great. But they are getting killed physically because we have no running game. Floyd having to rise up for catches and crashing down on the field are a recipe for disaster. Royal is getting crushed after every catch. Defenses know what's coming, and our receivers are so talented that they can make the play but not without paying the price.
6. I believe in what Telesco is trying to do but can Rivers hold out. I think he has at least 3 great years left in his arm, maybe more. Plus as bad as the line is at blocking for the run, they are doing an adequate job of protecting Rivers. At least they give Rivers room to step up in the pocket. I'm still not sure what to make of that.
7. The jury is still very much out on McCoy. Let's see how the rest of the season goes. Winning at Miami would help.

Ross, I think we win this game. Mannng is the best quarterback in history that can't throw on the run. We just need to keep him running. That is why Marshall and Wright were able to at least play a respectable game last year on Thursday night. We put the heat on him.
We of course also need Oliver to have a huge game like Mathews did last year.
Good play calling and good execution and we win. Simple, Right ?

It's a shame the officials sucked so bad today because in the end it was us who got bit in the ass on that phantom face mask call.
The play calling on offense was very inconsistent. Why go away from Oliver when he got you down there. That was dumb.
The good news is if we can get healthy we are good enough. But health has been our biggest issue so far. It is painfully obvious how much we need Verette and Flowers on the field. I hope Ingram comes back sooner than later. Freeney's "almost sacks" are one of the most frustrating things I've ever had to watch.

Rivers not real good today. On to Denver as a heavy underdog.
Allen did well on that drive and Novak is automatic but I hate needing help from the officials. Rivers is not having his best game.
Defense held. Can Rivers and Oliver finish? The Offensive line looks ready. No sacks please.
Bad play calling and Rivers is lucky that ball wasn't picked. A wasted great effort by Oliver
Can't tackle today. Not a good effort. Now it's up to Rivers
Marshall is going to cost us this game. 10 yards off of Bowe is a joke.
Great call to 83. Looks like our defense was tired of hearing about Hali and Huston
Ross, I believe that was Marshall giving up that huge cushion up top. And I, like you, thought we were heading for overtime. Carr throwing that bomb (the "waste down" ) as Pagano calls it, turned out to be his only mistake of the day. That shit usually happens to us. But it was the Raiders, still the most penalized team in the league, that melted down.
I have broken out the Rivers Powder Blue jersey for today. It is a cold day in eastern PA and it feels good to have this jersey on. As you know I don't much like Andy Reid and when he was rumored to be the next Charger head coach after Norvys departure, it was pissing me off to think that that clown was going to be our next coach.
Here's what I know about him. He prepares his team very well for the game coming out of the bye week. He likes to script his first 20 or so plays on his big stupid looking laminated calling card. So the first half could look good for the Chiefs if we don't get to Smith. But as good as his scripted plays are his ability to adjust during a game sucks. On the other hand it seems that our coaching staff has a handle on making adjustments through out the game. So for me all this means is that the Chiefs have the advantage in the first quarter. The second quarter should even out and the second half belongs to us.
By the way, I am loving the fact that when we win the coin toss we always defer. Finally a coach who gets it.
Looking forward to Gates eating up Eric Berry again. If they decide to double Gates Rivers will make them pay.
Royal will not be reluctant

In preparing for the Chiefs, struggling against the Raiders is probably the best thing that could have happened. This is a trap game if I ever saw one. We get the Chiefs at home coming off a bye week with Denver waiting for us the following Thursday. Andy Reid use to feast on opponents after the bye when he coached the Eagles. Even when the Eagles were an average team they would play like world beaters coming off of a bye week.
Thanks NFL for scheduling 2 consecutive bye week opponents. This will not be an easy game.
Ross, the picture you put up for week 5 says it all. We now know how to finish.
Ross, they did it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The defense overcame a shitty game. We have arrived.
Whole defense sucks today. Can't cover, can't tackle, can't pass rush. Now Rivers needs to tie it again. Seems like we can't stop them on special teams either. Field position has been the difference.
It has been about field position and we are losing that battle. Line can't open any holes.
Our linebackers have to step up too.
Got to get to Carr, got to get to Carr, got to get to Carr.
There goes that 12.6 against average. What are we made of. We are going to find out.
Need better play calling for the run. Not fooling anyone. Offensive line playing bush. Looks like we need the D to make something happen. WTF.
Need to get the running game going in the second half. Too many throws down field. I agree Ross, need that upfront to get it done. Need Green and Gates on the field together. Got to power the ball down the field and give up on the finesse.
We're in a dogfight with the dogs. Liuget needs to start making an impact. Need an upfront push. Blitz is not gonna work today.
Where is Eddie Royal?
Looks like that extra week gave the Raiders some extra life. Good thing they are the Faiders. Offensive line has to play better and will. We will not abandon the run.
If the defense is going to blitz all day they need to get to Carr. They should disguise it better.
Fluker's a GO!
ALL ABOARD THE "B" TRAIN!!!!!!
Sparano buried a football. Time for us to finish the job and bury his team.
I watched Reich break down the hand off to Oliver. It was a thing of beauty. More "perfect calls" like that from Rivers and he will be MVP.

I heard today that the Chargers lead the league in least amount of points given up per game (12.6). Pagano letting the D get after it in the second half of games. Next Man Up!
Now that he is a star I better get that spelling right. More yards from scrimmage than anyone since LT, Mr. Branden Oliver.
The Brandon Oliver Era has begun. Sproles couldn't carry his jock.
Need Floyd's calf and Fluker's ankle to get better in a hurry. We actually need a lot of players to get healthy.
On to the Shit Hole.
Well Ross, I see today's game like this. If the Jets can get to Rivers by only sending four we lose. If they can't and need to blitz to get to Rivers it's 50-50. If they blitz and can't get to Rivers he will make them pay. The rest will take care of itself. It's all about giving this years MVP time to make the play.
Looks like Verrett will be ready to go. No big injuries this week but a hell of a lot of nicks and scrapes. Limited means you play hurt.
Rivers needs to keep the pressure on. Gates will be double teamed so it is good that Green will be back. Biggest question this week. Can we break 100 yards rushing against a good Jets defense? I don't see many blitzes coming from the Jets. When the Jets do get pressure on Rivers he needs to hold on to the ball.
I guess the real key will be our defense. Smith sucks, Vick sucks. We need to shut down Johnson and Ivory.

No running game again. But we knew that going in. Rivers playing more elite than clumsy today. Does any other QB in the league do a better job of stepping up in the pocket to deliver than Rivers. NO. Time to stop respecting Bortles.
This week should be a good test for our depth and an obvious examination of that depth. Just as the Jags are looking for renewed energy due to the start of Bortles our new look defense for the Chargers will be flying around the field, hopefully under control. I also hope for a lot more touches for Oliver out of the backfield now that he has had a full week to be involved in the game plan.
Please, please, please, no more injuries.
Agreed Ross. If they are the new and improved version of the Chargers there should be no let down. If McCoy is the real deal then they should be well prepared to kill the Jags. For once I want the Chargers to make it look easy from beginning to end.
Time for Telesco to perform his magic again. I remember when Ingram went down he signed Freeney. I know it would be asking alot for Telesco to pull that rabbit out of his hat again but I am confident he will do the best he can to shore up the holes. No reason to panic and the Chargers always play better when the pressure is on.

I guess you know by now that Ingram is out for Sunday's game. The guy had a great game against Seattle. I hope he doesn't become a continual injury issue.
