Ross, I think Rivers will test the market next year. If he has a great season his value will skyrocket. He has been a good soldier for Spanos but I think his patience has run out. I expect the Chargers to stay in San Diego but even if they do stay I still think Rivers will entertain offers. Sure the team could put the franchise tag on him but I'll bet they would rather use that on a younger player. After next season, providing Rivers stays healthy, he can call the shots.
As far as the Tenn pick goes I believe they have no need to trade with SD to get what they want. I am starting to think that SD would make a deal with Tenn if they didn't have to include a first rounder with a Rivers trade. I still don't see Tenn doing it unless they can get multiple picks back in return. I don't see Telesco giving up multiple draft picks and Rivers.

Ross, Day of the Dead on WXPN 88.5 in Philly.
Why would Tenn. trade with San Diego for a QB they can have next year. Don't see it happening in the draft. I hope we take Gordon at 17.

Don't worry Ross, Acee is just starting shit so the talking heads have something provocative to spew leading up to the draft.

Had to do it. We need something to laugh about.

@Lucab12 If I remember correctly we were given the most points in SB history even surpassing the Jets.
Ross, year 3 will be the turning point. Telesco won't tolerate failure this year and I think McCoy knows it. Now granted, Telesco has a lot of work to do this off season, so he must succeed before McCoy can. I thought these 2 articles would be of interest.
I watched the SB. I really didn't care who won. I don't like either team. One cheats and the other is full of punk asses. So it was fitting that the game would end the way it did with New England still being investigated and Seattle taking a shit. I will never be jealous of their SB wins. I am however jealous of how both teams draft well and get the most out of their talent. In that respect McCoy and Telesco should be taking lessons.
Many thanks to the great work of Nick the Hardwick. He will obviously be hard to replace. Ross, talk to you before draft day. Enjoy the off season.

It makes me wonder if our team will ever win a SB when the city they reside in is not sure they want to keep them and the owner of the team can't convince them that it should matter.

Will we indeed spend on key free agents? Freeney and Mathews can leave. Not so sure I want to cut loose Flowers but that depends on what free agents Telesco has his eye on.
I enjoyed seeing big head get beat. Denver's offensive game plan sucked. The Colts are well coached and Luck does have a cannon for an arm. They have a chance to upset NE.
Denver shot their wad this year on free agents and it didn't work. Next year is looking better already. Ross, I do think they will slide Fluker inside next season and add another quality starter to the line. Telesco has got to know that year 3 is the no excuses year.

Check Clary off the list. Offensive line should look quite different next season.
I also feel the pain that this team consistently inflicts on it's fans but as I have said before the front office is in a different situation these days. No whack-o A J Smith to deal with. Instead we have Telesco who does address the needs of the team in a common sense way. He drafted offensive line his first year and defensive back the second. No one has disagreed with those choices so there is hope. We did get hit hard with key injuries to the offense this year and it showed. Football involves injuries but also good fortune. We had more injuries than good fortune this year. As long as Telesco drafts well and holds a hard line on McCoy I think we will be in good shape. Year three is the big one for this teams present regime. I am convinced that because Telesco wants to keep his job that he will let McCoy know that he needs to improve. Having said that, Telesco needs to hit a home run in this years draft and free agency picks. He has done a good job of upgrading the depth. Now he needs to upgrade the starters starting with the offensive line. Next the defensive line and so on. We shall see.

Well it looks like we are all on the same page. I guess we will find out how bad Rivers back is soon. If this offensive line doesn't get fixed we will never advance to a Super Bowl. Telesco has his hands full. I hope he can get it done before Rivers is done.
3 months, 4 weeks ago on Conversation @ http://justiceiscoming.com/chargers/the-start-or-the-end.html
That was a team loss.
Rivers is hurt anyway. McCoy doesn't have the stones and Reich's play calling blows. We still have no running game and the offensive line is average at best. Freeney is Freeney in name only. Donald Brown wasn't the answer for the fragile Mathews. Johnson is old and slow. Wright will be replaced by Verrett next year so maybe that's an upgrade. We'll see. I for one am glad the frustration is over. This team was going nowhere in the playoffs. They would have been a first round out.
Tough year Ross. You and your family have a safe and Happy New Year. Looking forward to your thoughts as you rap up the season.
Well it's pretty much going like we thought. This is how the Chargers have been playing since the half way point. If they win it will of course be exciting.
Ross, the 2 big questions this game are, can this O-line handle the pass rush and can the defense stop the "Red" teams running game. Reid doesn't get an extra week to work with this time so that's a plus for us. Without Mathews, something we're used to, and Allen, something we're not, I still like our offense. You know as well as I do that Rivers will throw to any number on the field that runs a good route. Gates will be key and needs to have a good game. It wouldn't hurt if Oliver could add some 10 yard bursts here and there either.
Bottom line is, we'll see truly what this coaching staff is made of. The game plan is super important today and keeping the "Red" teams defense off balance so that Rivers can work his magic is the number one key.
On defense Weddle needs to be square in front of Charles and Davis all day. Also, having Te'o healthy is huge. He is the one man who has the speed to go sideline to sideline. If Weddle keeps them from going north/south, Te'o will keep them from going east/west. I see 10 to 12 tackles today for Manti. It's time for Te'o to go Seau on the "Red" team.
He looks to the left
He looks to the right
And there in a golden ray of light
Is his open man
Just like he planned..............Rivers to Inman...TOUCHDOWN!
The whole world is his tonight
Make it happen Philip!

Inside Bolts' Historic Comeback
Bolts Brown Bag
The defense needs to make up for the 35 points they gave up against SF.
What does the crazy win by the Chargers mean now: At 9-6, the Chargers need a win in the team’s final regular-season contest against the Kansas City Chiefs, along with one loss in the final two games by the Baltimore Ravens, to reach the postseason for a second straight year.

That's not a "fucking miracle" Jeff, that's the San Diego Chargers. Just when you think your out, they pull you back in. That's OUR football team. They won't let us die in peace. They want to rip our hearts out and show it to us first. I guess we can chalk it up to the December thing.
Ross, on a related subject. I met another devoted Charger fan at a Ugly Sweater Party at a local establishment on Saturday night. His name is Greg Snook and he happens to be the lead singer of the band Blackbird. This is a local band outside the city of Reading PA. When he was setting up I noticed he had a hoodie on and I commented to my wife that "there was another one". By another one you know what I mean. Another poor tortured soul like us. When he took off his hoodie to reveal his Chargers shirt I knew he was hardcore. Turns out he is a lifelong Charger fan. As I said, "poor soul". I took the liberty of inviting him to our support group and therapy sessions. Or I guess some people might call them bitch sessions. Anyway, I await your comments on the game and Happy Hanukkah to you and your family.
Well Ross this team sucks and they suck as a team. Too bad for Ingram who played his ass off the last two weeks. Not even going to bother calling anybody out. As the old saying goes, "no guts no glory".
4 months, 1 week ago on Conversation @ http://justiceiscoming.com/chargers/one-step-up-two-steps-backa-typical-city-involved-in-a-typical-daydream.html
I like the way you think Antonio. All good points. I think Brady and Belichick are a couple of ass darts but you can't argue with their success over the Chargers. McCoy is bush league compared to Belichick and although I think Rivers has the talent to be as good as Brady he has never measured up head to head. I do think Telesco sees it also but of course he can't admit it. But he will try to do what it takes to bring us a winner and I don't think he will let his ego get in the way. If McCoy has another season like this one next year I think it will be his last. As for Rivers and his lack of consistent clutch play, Telesco would have to be a magician to replace him with someone better. Unfortunately were gonna have to get a lot worse to replace Rivers.
Ross, I'm not giving up on the season yet but I must admit that I am moving on from the full investment I had before the NE game. You know the drill. We Won't Get Fooled Again!
4 months, 2 weeks ago on Conversation @ http://justiceiscoming.com/chargers/how-you-like-us-now.html
It was all set up for a new chapter to be written in the book which is the story of the San Diego Chargers. Beat New England then Denver at home and finish the season with with a shot at home field advantage by winning on the road. They had beaten Baltimore on the road so nothing insurmountable about that. Except if your the hapless San Diego Chargers. When the offense is good the defense sucks. When the defense plays well the offense inexplicably plays like a bunch of scared rabbits.
Who is the moron that thought comparing Phillip Rivers to Dan Fouts had any merit. Dan Fouts was a bad ass. Phillip Rivers is a want a be. I am also unimpressed by Mike "the sword thrust" McCoy. I have no confidence in a coach who coaches scared and then when he is called on it by the media goes into his A J Smith impersonation.
This San Diego Chargers football team does not have what it takes to be relevant. They only play well when they're not expected to. And winning when you're not expected to is only reserved for teams that play no other roll then that of spoiler. I don't care what games they win from here on out because just like Jeff said, a wild card spot doesn't matter. All that wild card spot becomes is another week or two of prolonged frustration ending with our hopes once again being dashed.
A good episode of Behind the Bolt with Collinsworth and the SNF Bus. It does get weird at the end.
Ross, another great song by The Heavy. I think it works for Sunday night. Short Change Hero.
The key to beating NE.
Miami 33-20 NE Miami rushing 191 yds NE rushing 89 yds.
KC 41-14 NE KC rushing 207 yds NE rushing 75 yds.
GB 26-21 NE GB rushing 130 yds NE rushing 84 yds.
Win the ground game.

Ross, I guess everybody is in shock. Definitely a lot to digest.
Just a couple of thoughts. I knew we were in good shape when Baltimore got that long run back on the kick off. It just set things up perfectly for us to have to score a touchdown going the other way. The last thing I wanted was us only needing a field goal to tie. Needing a touchdown for a win with no chance of a tie game was right where we needed to be.
We run that slant/pick play with Allen and Royal to perfection.
As you have said, Mathews is key to any playoff hopes we have.
McCoy did a great job of using all three time outs during the Ravens possession.
Baltimore's defense on that last drive was a joke. Our recievers made them look foolish.
John Harbaugh is an ass dart. Loved the fact that Dungy schooled Harbaugh in the Sunday night pregame show.
Lastly, we need to play like a pack of wild dogs next Sunday night. Brady turns into a turtle when he is under constant pressure. Just ask Green Bay.
Louie Kelcher and Eric Stangel on the Brown Bag.
5 months ago on Conversation @ http://justiceiscoming.com/chargers/you-cant-let-go-cause-youre-afraid-to-fall.html
Listening to McCoy's lockeroom speech it sounded like he needed this win badly. Team win, team win is what I am hearing. What could be the start of something big is another line. Well they better be ready and they better cut down on the turnovers.
Now I know what snatching victory out of the jaws of defeat looks like.
So the Rams are more pathetic than the Chargers. What a stupid call. Second week in a row that a Charger win makes me ill. Now we play murderers row.
Alright I'm putting the hammer away.
Keenan Allen makes me want to take a hammer to my head.
Ross, it seems that neither one of these teams are very disciplined so I guess it comes down to who makes the least mistakes. Once again Rivers looks terrible when he audibles. It makes me wish they had never given him the card blanche. If we don't settle down and play more confident, I'm afraid the Rams, who are playing with a lot of confidence will win a close one.
Mike Goff on the BBB. Mike McCoy has gone goofy.
5 months, 1 week ago on Conversation @ http://justiceiscoming.com/chargers/are-you-ready-for-a-fight-do-you-wanna-take-it-all.html
When I suggested that Rivers should throw for 7 touchdowns I was only half joking. Rivers has the talent and the weapons to get that done especially against the hapless Raiders. But what I have come to believe in the last six weeks is that unimaginative play calling has hurt our once great offense. McCoy and Reich seem unable to prepare or adjust to any decent defense. I know our line sucks but you can't tell me that the Patriots offensive line is that much better than ours. That goes for Pittsburgh and KC also. Our problem is both execution and game planning. Our offense looks lost. "Vanilla" doesn't begin to describe how bad the play calling is. Every defense we face seems to own our offensive playbook. We fool nobody and our lack of creativeness will get Rivers killed.
I already have McCoy on the hot seat and next year could be his last. Telesco will not wait for McCoy as long as Smith waited for Turner. I tell you this, if we do not beat the Rams this week McCoy will be put on notice behind the scenes.
Suckass offense. Solid defense. The Rams won't be as kind.
Ross, I am looking forward to "Dark Side of the Mule".
Some Southern California flavor, "Bolts Brown Bag".
Time for Rivers to get into the act and throw for 7 TDs. Hey why not!!!
As you know, the last time we got our asses kicked like this was in 1999. 34-0 at the Chiefs. Our head coach was Mike Reily and we finished 8-8, missing the playoffs. Looking at the 99 roster It's hard for me to believe that we are THAT bad.
5 months, 3 weeks ago on Conversation @ http://justiceiscoming.com/chargers/your-gravity-fails-and-negativity-dont-pull-you-through.html
Might as well face it. Our offensive line is still untalented. They possess neither the ability nor the will to overcome defensive pass rushes or even simple match ups when attempting to run the ball. As I have said before, if not for Rivers ability to step up in the pocket before he lets the ball fly, he would be sacked 50 times, easily.
It's all irrelevant any way just like this team.
@Lucab12 Oh, this year is over!
Ross, there is only one thing I think of after a loss like this. Telesco has a lot of work to do.
Looks like another frustrating day of watching a terrible offensive line and a mediocre defense.
Time to end the drought
Love the Allman.
Thought this was nice.
Marshall is gone. Guess they saw what we saw. Hard to watch that film I'll bet.
6 months ago on Conversation @ http://justiceiscoming.com/chargers/embrace-the-weird.html
Ross, I was thinking the same thing about the running game and the corners.
Here are a few of my thoughts a day after the beatdown.
1. Our guards suck. They have sucked for years. This needs to be addressed more seriously. Watt is not the answer. Getting Dunlap at LT has helped to protect Rivers. Dunlap is a huge surprise to me considering he sucked in Philly. Fluker has become a disappointment to me. He is too slow against a fast defense. Miller ate him up. And I have seen him get chewed up by guys not as good as Von Miller. Move his ass to RG where he can be a stud and get a new RT.
2. Hate to say it but we need Mathews healthy. I was overhyped about Oliver. But I am glad he got the chance and I think he can be as good if not better than Woodhead. Because our offensive line cannot protect up the middle causing Fluker to help, Oliver had to chip someone as he was going out for a pass almost every time. If Oliver had been able to just run a route without having to block someone I'm sure he would have been more effective.
3. Our linebackers, suck, suck, suck. What has happened to that position. I know we have had a lot of injuries but Te'o and Ingram are who we are holding our breath for to return?! Johnson, Freeney are too old. Butler and Te'o aren't good enough. Te'o and Ingram are always injured. That position is in shambles.
4. We all know about the secondary. Even outsiders know about the secondary.
5. Rivers and our receivers are great. But they are getting killed physically because we have no running game. Floyd having to rise up for catches and crashing down on the field are a recipe for disaster. Royal is getting crushed after every catch. Defenses know what's coming, and our receivers are so talented that they can make the play but not without paying the price.
6. I believe in what Telesco is trying to do but can Rivers hold out. I think he has at least 3 great years left in his arm, maybe more. Plus as bad as the line is at blocking for the run, they are doing an adequate job of protecting Rivers. At least they give Rivers room to step up in the pocket. I'm still not sure what to make of that.
7. The jury is still very much out on McCoy. Let's see how the rest of the season goes. Winning at Miami would help.
Ross, I think we win this game. Mannng is the best quarterback in history that can't throw on the run. We just need to keep him running. That is why Marshall and Wright were able to at least play a respectable game last year on Thursday night. We put the heat on him.
We of course also need Oliver to have a huge game like Mathews did last year.
Good play calling and good execution and we win. Simple, Right ?
It's a shame the officials sucked so bad today because in the end it was us who got bit in the ass on that phantom face mask call.
The play calling on offense was very inconsistent. Why go away from Oliver when he got you down there. That was dumb.
The good news is if we can get healthy we are good enough. But health has been our biggest issue so far. It is painfully obvious how much we need Verette and Flowers on the field. I hope Ingram comes back sooner than later. Freeney's "almost sacks" are one of the most frustrating things I've ever had to watch.
6 months, 1 week ago on Conversation @ http://justiceiscoming.com/chargers/together-more-or-less-in-line.html
Rivers not real good today. On to Denver as a heavy underdog.
Allen did well on that drive and Novak is automatic but I hate needing help from the officials. Rivers is not having his best game.
