4 months, 2 weeks ago on I Guess There Really Is No Offseason
I believe you are right.
The signing of Donald Brown will hopefully end the insanity of having to use Woodhead up the gut. Now if Mathews can stay healthy for an entire season we will have enough options to really mix things up coming out of the backfield. More options for Rivers to throw to.
Has anyone heard anything about the statis of Freeney? We still had next to no pass rush last year. I would love to see the defense upgraded significantly this off season.
Offensively we need Gates to improve over his performance last year and for a couple of deep threats at WR to materialize. It seems that Telesco is willing to go with our present offensive line for one more year.
Our top pick in the draft will probably be secondary with O-line and D-line to follow.
Good news that Hardwick is staying. I would like to see him finish on top.

Yes, I think that's a good call.
6 months, 2 weeks ago on Inch Your Way Through Dead Dreams To Another Land
Whizzer did contribute to the loss yesterday with an impossible game plan. Without Mathews the running game was weak. Still we have a lot to look forward to. I hope the loss exposed everything we still need as a team to Telesco. Those extra 2 games played should have shown him a lot. Should Whisenhunt take another job we can at least feel good about his replacement being even better than him. We all know we need a lot of help on the offensive line and secondary. I am sure we are not alone in realizing that.
I have a better attitude after yesterdays loss. We all kinda knew we were short handed this year but the team played hard and Rivers looked great. Going forward I think we are in good hands.
Have a good year Justice League. Once again Ross, you are the man. Good health to you and your family and I will be looking forward to talking to you as new things develop.
I guess I should stay negative so the team can still have a chance. There is still time but will they just tear my heart out again.
Allen is the man
Well Ross, it doesn't look good. We are over matched today in the trenches. I did like seeing Allen burn Jammer. We definitely have a good receiver there. I think we have a lot of holes to fill in the off season but we are going in the right direction. Offensive line still stinks but has had some good moments. I see 2 new guards on the o-line and Hardwick will probably retire so we will need a new center. Secondary stinks also but we look good enough at the safety position.
We need more than Mathews. He is just too fragile. Brown is not enough and Woodhead is too small.
Telesco did a good job in his first year. Now he really has to go to work and fill all the gaps. I also would like to see the defense go back to a 4-3. The Chargers can never disguise the blitz well in the 3-4.
Hopefully we still have Rivers by the time Telesco gets this team in real contention.
Have a good year. Thanks for keeping the troops motivated and I'll talk to you when anything new develops.
Well Ross, the only thing that got punished in the first half was Rivers. Man our offensive line looks bad. I did like the emotion McCoy showed after the INT by Butler was confirmed. I hope he has a good half time speech in him and I hope the Whizzer knows how to adjust.
As a Charger fan I have gone crazy.
Dominate on defense. Punish with the run.
Offense set the tone in the first quarter running the football. Then the defense took over. The play calling in the red zone was not good but as bad as it was our defense was awesome. On to Denver. Ross, looks like you will be heard from again. Excellent post...as always.

Good win. Only one real bad call that could of cost us. I don't know why you set Mathews up 10 yards deep on 3rd and 1. I knew that Novaks keck-off out of bounds was going to cost us. Gilchrist needs a swivel for his head. Fluker is the man. Allen is ROY!
7 months, 2 weeks ago on Let's Fuck Shit Up
I like that. We do know that Rivers is Mr. December. With Allen playing so well have you heard anything about his shoulder or Fluker's ankle. We need to be at full force for one last push.
7 months, 3 weeks ago on Is There Anything To Be Excited About At This Point? (Part II)
Yeah Ross, McCoy doesn't look very sharp on some occasions but he did, or his system did turn Rivers around. Now he needs to get a grasp on sideline decisions because he has made way too many mistakes this years. But I have got to roll with it for at least one more season before I call him a bust.
Ross, this year is a bust and there is no reason to care about the rest of it but I keep pointing to the players drafted and the pick-up of Woodhead in the off-season as reasons to be opptimistic for the future. I think Telesco did a very good job with the player selection. Now the coaching staff needs to improve. I believe they can and with more good picks and pick-ups in the off season they can get this thing turned around.
Agreed Ross, when McCoy accepted the penalty after the runningback for Cinn was dragged down for a 3 yard loss, even as a player who made that play, and I think it was Te'o, I would have been pissed. Let's not mince words. McCoy has had his head up his ass a lot this season. And as usual the Chargers players look to comfortable after making mistakes. McCoy better not show signs of Norv like softness or he will soon be buried in someone's booth just like Norv.

BLACKOUT! Even after a win this team is irrelevant. That will only change if they stop choking. Last week was a good first step but obviously it will take a lot more than one win to build up a fan base that has been ruined the past five years.
8 months ago on Fiat Justitia Ruat Caelum
Thanks for the update Ross. Woodhead played "tall" again today. Mathews hammy, what else is new. Is Ingram still serious about coming back this Year? Tutu finally has his "moment", awesome!
8 months, 1 week ago on Fiat Justitia Ruat Caelum
Hope Fluker is ok.
Liuget cost them the game.
Clary still sucks.
Rivers is a statue so stepping up in the pocket only works for a while.
Figures Mathews would have the best run of his short career but not score.
If you can't beat Miami there is no way this team can win a playoff game so no reason to hope they would make it in.
Two more years, two more drafts and maybe we can compete with the big boys. Maybe by then, maybe.
8 months, 2 weeks ago on How Long Must We Sing This Song?
How about that. The more things change the more they stay the same.
I also see that I'm still asking Rivers to prove who he is. I hate this shit.
Andy Reid, who I did not want as the bolts next head coach has taken the Chiefs from last place in the league to first place and last undefeated team standing. The first thing Reid did after his hiring was get his new QB. Smith looks better than Kaepernick does this year so Reid is "the Man" right now.
Reid got ran out of Philly last year and because I live outside of Philly I not only witnessed it, I agreed with it. Just like I agreed with them giving up on King Dunlap. My only point in bringing these things up is that it is obvious that changing head coaches and players can do a lot for NFL teams. Dunlap wasn't doing too bad until his head became the liberty bell. He was a "soft" and slow player in Philly. In SD he seemed to improve.
While Reid and Smith are riding high and getting ready for the match-up of the week, the bolts are once again irrelevant. They are not even a "newsworthy" mention on any national telecast.
Speaking of song references Ross, the Aerosmith song No More No More keeps repeating in my head. First because of my opinion of the excuses, second because of the lyrics " it's the same old story never get a second chance for a dance to the top of the hill".
Once again referring to the Reid and Smith reference, it all comes down to the head coach and the QB. McCoy can't cut it yet and Rivers can't deliver. Not that I don't think McCoy can't improve. Of course he can but can Rivers hang on long enough until he does and if he does will he deliver?
English done and will be gone. No surprise there.
I see a little light at the end of the tunnel. The problem is that the light is still probably two yrs away. Rivers has played better but still not clutch enough. Could be because of a lack of a running game and 2 starting receivers going down early. But I do see good things out of our draft picks so this thing could turn around in a couple years. I do agree that Mr. Mike and the Wisser needs their balls to grow.
8 months, 2 weeks ago on Walk Tall Or Don't Walk At All
Your right Jeff. Manning didn't beat us. It was the YAC that killed us. That Demaryius Thomas kicked our ass. Also, Rivers just never looks in total control at the end of games when we need him most. That slide before the first down marker in the first half killed one drive. His delay of game in the second half killed another. That delay of game and lost yardage scared McCoy off from going for it on fourth down during a critical drive. Lastly, every Charger fan from coast to coast knows we don't have a legit running game when we need the tough yardage. Woodhead has done more than expected but he can't do it all.
8 months, 3 weeks ago on Walk Tall Or Don't Walk At All
Typical, irrelevant and over. Time to go into watch and wait mode. I'll watch but once again I'll have to wait another year.
Win or stay irrelevant.
Ross, the comments from this post are great, especially the "great play calling Norv McCoy". If anything good comes of this it should be the fact that Mister Mike and the Wisser are feeling the heat and they rightly should be. I expect a much better effort and outcome against Denver. Football is the weirdest sport. Nick Foles throws 7 TDS against Oakland. Oakland made us look like shit and we made Philly look bad. It's just weird. I guess it always comes down to consistency. That is what separates the "real good most of the time teams" like New England from the frustrating "real good some of the time teams" like the Chargers. Mister Mike looks like he has that same "post game presser confidence" that Bill Beli has, but that shit better carry over to the next "game day play calling" after allowing the fan base to experience yet another heartbreaking loss.
8 months, 3 weeks ago on The Monsters Are Due On Murphy Canyon Road
@Lucab12 Agreed Ross, Felt a lot like Arrowhead, especially the "thanks for ripping our hearts out" part. Only difference is instead of Rivers being the assdart, this all falls on Mister Mike and the Wisser. Chokes. I sure hope Spanos at least gave McCoy a dirty look on the plane ride home. I am also very tired of even thinking about thinking what the fuck McCoy is thinking when it comes to when he is supposed to play Mathews.
Ross, here is my version of what happened at the Redskins goal line. Mike McCoy played by William Hope trying to call the play. Philip Rivers played by Bill Paxton with his reaction. Oh yeah, and McCoy saying at the presser that if they had made the touchdown we wouldn't be questioning the play calling. Asshole!
8 months, 4 weeks ago on The Monsters Are Due On Murphy Canyon Road
Cowards!!!!!!!!! I've been a Chargers fan for 30 years and I've seen some bad play calling over the years but McCoy and the Wisser brought play calling to an all time low. It was like a butcher having the turkey on the chopping block and missing it's neck and chopping off your own fucking fingers.

Ross, you are "The Dead HEAD". Although a great tune it never occurred to me that this was what you were referring to. On a darker note Lou just took his last train. Thought this was fitting considering the train references.

Laura McKeeman not just another pretty face. Nice job interviewing "all business" Mike McCoy.
9 months, 1 week ago on Last Train To Jacksonville
Guess this is the week to look at stats and possibilities. Denver heading back home after coming off a tough road loss to the Colts will be ready to drop a big number on the skins this week. The skins D have given up an average of 31 points over the past six games. This leads me to believe that even though I would love to see an upset of Denver bringing them even one game closer to us, that there is no chance in hell that it is going to happen.
However, here is the good news. We get to see for the first time how a Mike McCoy team performs after having an extra week to prepare for a team that struggles on the defensive side of the ball. Shady McCoy gashed them for 184 yards. Starks for GB dropped another 132 on them. Stafford went up top for 385. And their last game against Chicago at home Forte scored 3 TDs and McCown threw for 204 and touchdown. Hell Manning could score 50 on them by halftime.
As far as next week goes I know in the past that as far as our Chargers go we would always play down to the competition because Turner was always good at one thing, playing down to the level of the competition. Fortunately I believe those days are behind us so enjoy the week off and who knows maybe the Chiefs luck will run out. I know Joe Banner would love nothing better than being the team to stop his old friend Andy Reids hot streak. Then we can go into Washington a week later and take care of our business.
And I'll meet you at the station. Well Ross, we won, and very convincingly. Nice way to go into the bye. Before I forget thanks for the casts. Love the personal touch and it's comforting knowing that the bobble head is holding down the fort. Strike up the band, Mathews actually looks like he wants it all of the sudden. Maybe he's tired of Woodhead making him look like a pussy.
I must admit that I am impressed with McCoys or the Whisers however you look at it, playcalling. Not predictable as Turners plays always were. I am however concerned with all the concussion injuries. As I said before, Telesco is earning his pay check this year. He keeps rolling in players that are at least seen to be able to pick up the playbook.
On a side note those damn Chiefs keep living the shitty life and somehow keep pulling out wins. I would love to see our guys healthy and ready to kick their ass when the time comes. Well I'm gonna sign off and go see if the Colts can somehow ruin the Manning love fest. Keep the faith. Oh ya, and I agree Allen is kicking ass. Another good choice by Tommy T.
That's always the problem with this team Ross. Ever since LT broke that season scoring TD record the truth is not clear. Does our running game suck so bad because the offensive line sucks or does the running back suck so bad making the line look like it sucks? Clearly Telesco thinks the line sucked to take Fluker. But the line has done an ok job of protecting Rivers, right? Or did McCoy design the offense to get rid of the ball quickly because he knows how bad the line really is?
Remember when Matt Millen took 3 receivers in a row with first round picks between 2003 and 2005 and everyone mocked him, and rightly so because he had no clue as to what he was doing. But my point is that Telesco should definitely spend another 1st round pick next year on an offensive lineman and if he did it in 2015 I wouldn't think he was too crazy.
I just believe that the Chargers organization has not been able to choose O-linemen very well in the past 25 years. Not that they have invested in many. The last time the Chargers spent a first round pick on an offensive lineman was the year 1986 in which the team had 2 first round picks. With the no. 8 pick in the first round they took Leslie O'Neal. With the no. 12 pick they took a guy by the name of James FitzPatrick. The previous year they also chose an O-lineman with their first round pick. At no. 12 they chose Jim Lachey.
I guess it is easy to see why the offensive line has sucked for so long. It really puts what LT accomplished with the Chargers in a new light.
One last thing. We know the defense sucks also and having looked at our last thirty years of drafts my conclusion is that if it were not for Smiths 2004 and 2005 drafts he would have been every bit as bad as Matt Millen was in Detroit.

Ross, is there anyway to get your podcasts going again? I miss them and they were always a bright spot during some tough times.
9 months, 3 weeks ago on Something In The Night
Not sure who to blame for this mess. I guess Smith deserves quite a bit of the blame for what he left us with. Mathews is definitely his blunder. He looks like a running back until you hand him the ball. The defense is all Smiths fault also. I think Telesco can fix this with some time but I realize we are all sick of waiting. Not even sure how much to blame McCoy. The team has had some good game plans but losing leads has something to do with the coaching. Last night however was the worst effort yet. Getting beat like that on Oaklands first play from scrimmage made the bolts look like smacked asses. They got swallowed up by the hole.
Ross, you might want to brake out the bad early. Death and mayhem always works for me.
The whole team sucked. McCoy did not do a good job preparing his team for this game. It was over 12 hours before it began.
We have been reduced to Monday Morning Football and watching a TNF 12 hour ticker. Also, apparently the game is all about Oak QB. Still no respect for Rivers.
9 months, 4 weeks ago on Something In The Night
I am pissed that the game doesn't start till 11:35 eastern. Being a fan of this team is like living in Seinfeld's bizzaro superman world.
10 months ago on And It Don't Matter Just What You Say, Are You Tough Enough To Play The Game They Play? Or Will You Just Do Your Time And Fade Away?
Gotta agree with you guys. No surprises with either injury. Those guys are getting "old".
No Freeney. Now What?
McCoy obviously has got Rivers all the way back. Gates also back. Woodhead huge. Allen also a revelation. No 100 for Mathews but at least he held on. Offensive line played great.
C. Butler redeemed himself. Weddle was badass with no scrub plays today.
A few miscues like Bryant TDs and Butler push on Witten but all in all a real good effort
Is Dallas defense really that bad?
On to the shithole.
