Agree with you here Ken: definitely. However, one thing I've come around to is reducing the number of social link icons on client sites as well as my own. We've been tracking a lot of data and the links have a tendency to send people away. It's like that's the sole engagement they take. From a business point of view we need to be getting people deeper into the sales funnel. Signing up to email lists, filling out forms, requests for contact. That's how a site really starts to work. 

It's all well and good to get people to the site but it's actually getting them to take the key actions. These are the strategies we need to work hardest with if a site is going to be a really important part of marketing collateral.
