I've had a couple laughs so far today, with Google's "Google Nose" and WestJet's "Furry Family Program", in my news feed on facebook this morning! I have never been the victim of any real pranks on april 1st, but I am very wary of anything coming online today! haha

I have found that my way of seeing right and wrong used to be absolutely black and white, but has been shifting away from black and white to shades of grey over the past 5 years (roughly).  I find that many people I talk to are saying the same thing, and it seems to be that many of the posters here have had that same experience.  I wonder, is this something that happens to a lot of people as they enter adulthood, or is it perhaps a more widespread cultural shift that has been happening in recent years?

Oh my! Haha what a timely post for me! I am currently doing something I have sworn vehemently that I would NEVER do. I wont air my laundry, but lets just say that the younger me who saw things in a very black and white way would be pretty annoyed with me now!  On the other hand, when you are in the position of doing the thing you promised you would never do, it gives you a really ridiculously good (almost irritatingly good) perspective on the people you judged so negatively in the past for doing it!

What a great topic! haha Thanks for getting this out there! :)

And by the way... don't you dare stop posting little Eli pics! You are spreading a lot of JOY when you show us all his perfectly adorable little face in whatever new expression he has formed it into!

@rshin  @Lori This makes me think of Plato and the allegory of the cave!  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allegory_of_the_Cave

I like the one-eyed man allegory too!  A really great way of illustrating this!

@rshin Wow! Thank you for this response to my question! I am really going to need to take some time to read this again and again because there is so much wisdom in it! I really wonder if it is possible to see things like that, to shift the way we are, to just BE.

@rshin I really, really like this comment!  I am wondering, do you have any ideas on how we can fight this "knowing" that closes us off to other possibilities? This is something I may end up thinking about all day! haha

Ohh Mama! This is beautiful writing and a very touching post. Brought a couple tears to my eyes as I read it, and made me really think!

I think I understand what you mean about sometimes seeing your life like it has a dream-like quality.  I have felt that way a lot recently, when sitting on the rooftop patio in Ottawa with friends enjoying a bbq meal as the sun sets, or playing in the park with my friend and his little dog, while home visiting you guys, sipping coffee on the swing in the yard with Dad, or sitting on the beach at cape enrage with you, listening to the waves roll the rocks on the beach... I will be fully enjoying a moment, and it is a feeling of complete happiness, like I am smiling from the inside. That is when I feel almost like a dream-like quality sets in, like "how is this my life?"

A great topic! Something we all should think about more often!  I have been making efforts to have almost-perfect days a lot lately, and I think that there are many versions for me, but a lot of the same ingredients.  Usually a perfect day would have great weather, and would involve some time outside. On a perfect day I would spend time with someone I care about, or a few people even. There may be some tasty food involved, or good music, or fun activities. I think that the thing that lets me know I've had a really great day is that I have smiled and laughed, and that it felt like time flew by!  Feels great just thinking about this! Thanks Hajra :)

I dont think that I do anything consciously to step into the moment, but I do find that any time I am feeling very happy, and I think "man, I am really happy right now" I realize that the reason is that I was just completely immersed in what I was doing, not thinking about anything else.

100% would rather have loved than lost!  I would not trade away any of the heartbreaks I have gone through. The times when I have dealt with loss have been possibly the biggest growing experiences for me!

What a beautiful post!  The idea of random acts of kindness to self reminds me of my best friend who recently landed her first career job.  She has decided to use her first paycheque to buy herself a beautiful and meaningful ring that will always remind her of the happy feelings she is experiencing as she starts her "grown-up" life.  I was so inspired by her decision to do this nice thing for herself! We should all be so kind to ourselves, but sometimes it can be hard to remember to do it!

Thank you for the reminder and the lovely post!

Oh HI!! Im so sad I was busy with writing papers all day, and didn't get here until now!

First of all, I agree with you, I have always been the sort of girl who judges a book by its cover. The nicer the cover, the more sure I am that I will like the book, and the more excited I am to dig in and read what's inside!

I am a pinterest fan as well, and I do find it addictive to go through all of the pictures of gorgeous vacation destinations or really cool homes, the art and photography really get me inspired as well! I find that I feel good after pinning a bunch of things to my boards and imagining that I will someday travel to those places, build a combination of all of my favourite aspects of other homes into my dream home, and try out artsy projects or photography when I have the time!

I actually have you to thank for getting me "pinterested"! So thank you!! :)

@Lori  Hahaha! I like how you say that it looks like a person working! I also noticed that it could also look like a girl playing with a dollhouse!

I think my words changed 5 or 6 times last night while I tried choosing them, so it is quite possible that they could change as early as this afternoon!

@Hajra   I'm happy you asked! I say lucky because I feel like there have been many happy coincidences in my life, and not very many bad turns.  I feel I was lucky to be born into a loving, supportive, encouraging family, and to always have wonderful people around me who make life fun and interesting. I have rarely been hurt or let down by the people I love. I have always had someone to turn to when things don't go my way, and I have had some pretty amazing role models and teachers throughout my life. Maybe I should have put "lucky" as my first word now that I think about it! haha
