@Bobman1 @DougEngland Mostly, it's just interesting to see which guys stand out to their coaches an peers. No one asked either of these guys about Toler or Vaughn. They chose to bring them up. In Vaughn's case, the secondary coach might have been defending his mention of him third among cornerbacks, since he's been such an unpopular player.
If there are any All-Pro players in our secondary, I'll be delighted....and a bit surprised.
He really does sound like a heck of a guy, and a monster of a football player. I'm glad the Colts are givi g him a chance.
@bradicus18 Yeah, I'm about over the offseason.
@DougEngland @29sonski I don't believe a center has to be a huge, powerful lineman anyway. I'm interested in seeing what Holmes can do this preseason. It was hard to just pick a couple quotes from him. He sounds like a heck of a guy.
Last year, Drew Stanton said what it really comes down to is Luck can't grow a mustache.
Luck has said he doesn't shave much. I've gotta say, if that was what happened when I didn't shave, I'd never skip a day.
Haha. Mine's a Reebok, too. 06 AFC Championship hat (came free with my Brackett jersey). It's been thrown down in fan anger a time or two.
@couchspud44 I don't know. He might have a slightly better chance of making the team at guard. They currently have 5 guards and 6 tackles, although one of those tackles is Linkenbach, who is basically any position but center.
O'Bryant is a speedy guy. Looks like he'll be competing with Deji Karim and Kerwynn Williams. I liked Bill Polian, to be honest, but I'm very glad, as you mentioned, that the new guys actually give a damn about the return game. I hope one of these three guys will turn out to be a weapon. Some people believe Williams could be similar to Darren Sproles, but he'll have to hold on to the ball better.
@couchspud44 I like the sound of that. We just want to be careful not to set bar at Bethea's level. Though it hinges on his recovery, he has some serious potential, but he's still a good 6th round pick even if all he ever does is play well on special teams.
I sure like them rolling the dice on the guy, though. I agree, he could be special.
@smonroe I think Donald Thomas is going to take over for McGlynn. Thornton might be locked into a battle with a healthy Joe Reitz for the left guard spot. Reitz, a guy who grew up here watching the Colts, is good by most accounts, but, as you know, he gets hurt...a lot.
I still don't know what to think about Boyett's injuries yet. I hope he gets to a point where he can handle getting hit and can play for awhile.
I'm hoping to do a write up or two on the UDFA guys this week.
@colt nasty@TheGreatMisdirect@Coltsheadben Boyett's injury was originally described as a partial tear in each patellar tendon. From what I found, that means some fibers are ruptured/torn, but most of them are still connected. Here's a 2012 report on the injury from an Oregon newspaper: http://www.oregonlive.com/ducks/index.ssf/2012/09/oregon_ducks_senior_safety_joh.html
And here's a wikipedia article on patellar tendon ruptures: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patellar_tendon_rupture
I like this pick because they took a risk on a 6th rounder. It isn't unusual for a 6th round pick not to make their team, but if this guy gets healthy, he could be much better than most 3rd day draftees.
But I'm much more excited about Hugh Thornton.
@cwjwl I do hope he'll be alright. It's hard to say how he'll do when he gets out and plays, especially on special teams, where the collisions come at high speeds, but I suppose that's why guys like that go late in the draft. Low risk.
@DougEngland You nailed it there.
@thellamajockey I agree.
@hankster @bradicus18 I can't believe they asked Redding of all people about the HGH thing. He seemed completely blindsided by it.
@bradicus18 Thanks. I had to put it together kind of quickly. I do imagine McAfee flexing and cracking everybody up. Kinda reminds me of his Facebook Friday interview of Winston Justice last year. He and Winston had some kind of weird flex-off that was as awkward as it was funny. Later on, he asked him if he'd ever pancaked anyone and said, "Justice is served."
I think Thornton could be a surprising find, too. Maybe that's just the Colts fan in me
@cwjwl @couchspud44 I have Boyett's conference call transcript. Was going to write about him or maybe Thornton tonight if I can finish up a few other things.
