I have been wanting this since season 1!
Let's pick people from each season :D
Season 1 - Christina Christianson, or Tamyra Gray
Season 2- Trenyce,
Season 3 - Latoya London, John Stevens, Leah Labell
Season 4 - Bo Bice, Vonzell Solomon
Season 5 - Elliot Yamin, Bucky Covington, Paris Bennet
Season 6 - Melinda DooLittle, Lakisha Jones, Blake Lewis
Season 7 - Honestly, I would accept anyone from this season save for Ramiele or Chikezie
Season 8 - Allison Iraheta (I would only consider Danney Gokey so that we could have a villain),
Season 9 - Didi Benami
Season 10 - Pia Toscano, Naima Adedapo, Haley Reinhart,
Season 11 - Hollie Cavanaugh, Colton Dixon, (or anyone from the top 7)
Season 12 - Any of the girls from the top 5 but obviously, I prefer Amber :P
Maybe we should have 2 from each season perform for a semi-final round and then see who makes it from each season? :D
@Rickey @takakupo Sorry, I've rewritten these huge responses like 3 times and I just can't reply without ranting. I see what your saying Rickey and I can't disagree with most of it. The historical trends of televisions are in the favor of your argument. I, however, remain more optimistic because the problems have been identified, clear as day, throughout the last decade with easy fixes and I don't think there's any need to start over or beg for Nigel to come back, but just fix these problems and gain the trust of the viewers back with good, honest, clean television programming. That's all I can say.
I really thought that this interview showed a lot about Amber's faults during her run on the show. She was her best when taking a risk and the perceived at the worst when she played it safe. Arguably, you could say that her first two outings of "My Funny Valentine" and "I Believe in You and Me" were playing it safe in a good way but I was never a fan of those performances and thought that maybe they showcased her vocals to the general audience (to good reviews) it never showed us what should could do beyond singing a song with a wild range as opposed to the nuance of "She's Leaving Home" or the spectacular spirit of Barbara Streisand in "What are you Doing the Rest of Your Life?" Her second outing of "My Funny Valentine" really challenged her psyche because of Harry Connick Jr.'s confrontation and Idol showing it just seconds before her singing the song live.
When there is conflict in Amber, she is brilliant.
@Mikhail XO This is definitely better than "I Am Beautiful" which was made with a $50 electric piano from wal-mart with the drum beat samples -__-; honestly. Who the fug gets paid for this tripe?
@Mikhail XO Many of the loyal viewers are the ones still watching. It's the general audience that doesn't give a fuck.
Forgive me for not being pessimistic, but Idol has a core of viewers that is still unmeasured but has definitely been tested since season 8 (We ignore season 7 because the head to head that was hoped for was legitimate. David Archuleta and Cook were both legit contenders for the crown). I don't think anyone can say honestly that Idol can't come back. This season was just a rehash of the last five years with a pool of talent that was dry but more importantly, the story arch of the season was sealed during the top 10 episode. We all knew that the boys had an uphill battle when it come to taking the crown and the last 4 seasons have been all about a woman winning it back. Once that story was over, the general audience left.
Each season has had its own story arch and this one failed tremendously. Season 8 was the insurrection of those who were not supposed to be there: Kris Allen and Allison Iraheta.
Season 9 was about Lee Vs. Crystal and it began the real debate about the white guy with a guitar. The semi-finals was one of the water cooler moments of that televised year when several contestants were cut before the finals that were thought to be real contenders for the crown.
Season 10 was the definitive moment where we learned that women were never getting anywhere near the crown because they are held to a different standard (or for whatever reason, I mean really. There are plenty). 5 women went home in a row including the most shocking boot in history, Pia Toscano at position 9. Then, when that was over, we had the underdog of the year, Haley Reinhart.
Season 11 is the pinnacle of Idol in my opinion. They found a top 7 that was immensely talented (the MOST talented in my opinion and that of many others) where it made a return to season 5, where everyone had a genre to root for and a contestant they felt was a real contender. Even though we got Phil Phillips as a winner, he delivered the greatest single in years and some follow ups that weren't too shabby.
Now, this season happens and there is no story. It's a forgone conclusion that the girls are going to win, and even though the top 2 were legit contenders there was no really strong men. And this is what the opinion posted by Rickey is missing. That we all have acknowledged that we think Idol screwed us and the general audience and tried to stack the deck. All that needs to happen is an apology in the form of hardwork and trust building from here on out. I think that Idol should take a year off and then come back with a pool of talent that is like season 11, producers who know how to pick songs like Adam and Kris in season 8, and some underdogs we never saw coming like Reinhart in season 10. I'm not saying that Rickey is totally wrong, but I'm saying that the possibility for Idol to come back to a semblance of its former numbers is literally very possible if you take the right steps.
They needed that extra 10 minutes for Carly Rae.
There was no semi-attractive boy with a guitar!
There's just no way that people like Drake or Nikki Minaj can work out. They're way too young and a bit too hip and a tad bit too flammable (actually, the latter is the only one who is too flammable. I love her sharpness this season but all the confrontation really was a dour.) to make their mark on something like Idol. Idol is all about Adults telling kids what they need to do to be successful. It's just not a show like "The Voice" or the crazy crumbs of "The X Factor." It literally only works when older people are the judges, they have chemistry and they give the kids good working advice.
This is exactly why genes should not be patented and nothing should be patented. This stop of innovation clogs up our inventors, researchers and the actual interests of the American people by making a test for a gene you discovered as opposed to created and posting the worth of finding that gene at $3,000, a completely evil and selfish enterprise. What a crock of shit these big pharma companies are. They should be tossed out with the big banks for good.
It's insane how successful they are. Just looking at those arenas I'm flabbergasted.
I think it was horrible because they didn't know the words and they treated it like a playful number.
I look forward to watching this :] Have NOT enjoyed the second season save for about one episode so I'm glad you're endorsing it. Going to watch it as soon as I'm done studying my ass off and throwing bibliographies at professors.
Not looking forward to this. Meyers doesn't really look the part of a late night talk show host nor does he really have the voice to apply to an hour long venture for normal viewing audiences. Maybe I'm just being too harsh? I was wrong about Jimmy Fallon when that first happened so I guess we'll see.
Okay so I have a few comments...I thought that Arty graduated already and was just back to mentor the kids like Finn so you can imagine that I was thrown when he was performing with them. I really have to go back to the first few episodes to confirm this.
Second, I thought this didn't feel anything like a finale and that the writers really skipped over a lot of things they said they would do like giving Jessica Sanchez some kind of story arch (not that I'm complaining about the lack of her story, just that it seems out of place and lazy). If this were the episode before the finale, it'd be great, but as a finale, it seemed thrown together.
Lastly, The new New Directions doesn't have ANY great anthems. What the hell was that second song that came out of nowhere? You know what made the first one so special? Rachel being the super star that she was and singing "Don't Rain on my Parade" in the most stage commanding fashion and then breaking into their 80's anthem, it was a real number to root for. This one was...just okay.
@Mikhail XO Like "The Good Wife!"
seriously, how is Scarlett Johansonn STILL in the top 10 after all these weeks? I mean, I get it. She's naked and she's pretty and respectable, but come on -__-;
Yep. Making it a top 10 as opposed to a top 12 was a huuuuuge mistake. Even making it a top 13 and then eleminating 3 people in one night would have been excellent.
I wish that Elijah Liu made it through to the voting rounds. Thought he had the best voice of all the guys.
As for reprisals, I'd say Candice should reprise "Don't Make me Over" since Love Song is her masterpiece according to the general population, and Kree should reprise, "Help me Make it Through the Night" based on the song title alone XD
Both of their coronation songs should be about what ails them both personally or made them who they are. Kree's loss of both parents should be adapted and she should tell the story about how she moved on and is on a bigger stage. Candice's coronation song should be all about climbing, getting back on a mountain and becoming stronger a la her initial rejection from idol and her triumph to the next season's finale.
As for a song from what's his name, the failure extraordinaire, a fail pick would be "Call me Maybe" for Kree and "Superbass" for Candice.
Have to agree wholeheartedly that Candice's best was "Don't Make me Over." and that's the tune she should be reprising.
I don't find anything that Kree has sung, memorable :(
Does anyone know if the reason fro The CW's low ratings is because it just isn't as available as other networks or if it's because of the material being geared towards young adults and younger?
Southland was THE best show on television, followed by The Good Wife in terms of Drama. Sad to see it go.
