It's his first full year to go through a full training camp and he's is in his third year in the black silver when supposedly it' all comes together.

But seriously -- Tiago has shown major improvements from year 1; he actually looks like an NBA player out there and not a European player trying to play in the NBA. Not to mention a few more calls are going his way.

Free throws are monumentally different. Chip Engelland transformed his free throw from his stance to his release.

I just hope he keeps it up. More Twin Towers means better defense.

i like it when people trash talk especially to Timmy he gets off on that shit.

Timmy is looking great yet again this year and to me is getting the proper amount of touches for being Tim Duncan. We have neglected him for 2 years now. My guess: Timmy says "If this is gonna be my last 3 years.. I want to play damnit"

Anyhow -- let em talk trash. But Cousins talking shit to Sean Elliot only proves Elliot's point; he's immature.

We saw a small, but noticeable, shift in mindset from offense to defense last year (especially when compared to the season before that). I'm hoping we expand on that with Kawhi's development  and Danny Green's experience.

And you should mention Manu as the third best defender. He has great hands on defense and is most definitely fearless and draws a charge like no other.

2 years, 1 month ago on Danny Green: Defense is biggest key

Reply

Well... he would probably make the same comment about the spurs. There's a shot to win the West (1st seed) and get to the WCF; but after that it's hard to envision anything other than an injury to Durant/Kobe that will keep the Thunder/Lakers from the finals.

We have to get used to this rhetoric all season given the way the season ended last year with many people citing a passing of the torch of Tim/Tony/Manu to Durant/Westbrook/Harden.

On top of all that, we didn't make any significant off-season moves that would garner us with more respect as title contenders.

Let's hope for a remarkable emergence of Kawhi, a healthy Tim and Manu, and a F/O move or two to better our chances.

 @Aaron Torres  @JMattHicks Aaron --

I think you make his point when you state "12 weeks ago, we were STILL questioning if it'd ever click for LeBron"

Now he is the greatest player of all time (essentially that's almost what this argument boils down to)? JMattHicks has it right, The Dream Team is still the best assembled team in basketball history and not even LeBron in all his glory can change that.

And your argument about not being able to escape the media these days because of twitter/blogs/NBAtv etc....Is pointless. Whether its 1970 or 2012 - a man can retire in solitary if he should choose to. He doesn't have to pick up his phone, turn on a tv or hop on his laptop if he doesn't want to. So after a game, if LeBron can't get off Twitter or what have you, he can blame himself (if there is even any blame to be had) for any psychological damage he should incur from it.

LeBron had an excellent year. But it is too early for this argument.

I think his comparison was the fact that they are both true Centers who play the Power Forward spot. But when it comes down to it, as he stated, Timmy is playing Center. Bosh should be doing the same.

A personal trainer, in a sense? Overseas?

This has been my favorite prospect overseas since we drafted him; I hope he's over here by next summer. The fact that he is getting this much attention kind of confirms my claims on his attitude and maturity level at such a young age (comparable to Kawhi's).

Great scouting. Bravo, Spurs.

I think it will be a good game... but the U.S. will take the Gold yet again this year. I don't see anyone beating this U.S. team.

Who will stop Durant? Who will stop LBJ? Who will score on Tyson Chandler? I don't understand the "lack of size" argument against the U.S. We are long at virtually every position and more athletic than any other team.

I've had such high hopes for Hanga since we drafted him. The first highlight I ever saw from him he was blocking a shot from behind his own center. His athleticism is pretty impressive and I have high hopes for him. When we drafted him I know TP and the guys took him to dinner and the Spurs staff showed him the facilities and all that and when he left I remember him sounding VERY hungry and determined to make this team. I've been his fan since then.

This highlight reel makes me an even bigger fan. He's like a mini-Dwayne Wade minus the physical stature.

@Spursfan66  @yowhatupT Spursfan -- you didn't mention defense at all, and my point was that Durant and LeBron BOTH have tools to be great defensively but simply don't have the will or determination to do so. They are scorers. I was never saying Kawhi would have to be as good a scorer as LeBron or Durant to be a superstar.. and that was my very point! Using GREAT defense and good offense... Kawhi will be a superstar in my very humble opinion.

Kawhi also has GAWDY length although Durant has a couple inches on him in both height and wingspan. But again, this is my very point. Durant should be known as a lock-down defender but instead he's just a great scorer.

Kawhi WILL be known as a great defender and within a few years, probably won't be too shabby at putting the ball in the basket either.

Jumping ability? His max vertical was 33 inches I believe? Compared to Durant's 34, maybe? That is ur biggest concern?

That was a very weird response -- I feel like you didn't read anything I wrote but it's all good.

2 years, 5 months ago on How Kawhi spent his summer | July

Reply

@yowhatupT Not at all - I was actually trying to make the point that he will be just as good (if not better) defensively than those guys.

Great defense/good offense = Kawhi

Great offense/good defense = Other Superstars

I was trying to say that I truly believe Kawhi will rise to All-Star status in a few years when his offense is developed even more and by that time -- he should be one of the best perimeter defenders in the league as well.

I don't care how crazy I sound -- mark my words!!!!

2 years, 5 months ago on How Kawhi spent his summer | July

@yowhatupT I can understand that -- not to be rude I just expected someone of this blog who follows the Spurs up close and personal to see the work ethic and tools that he's had since high school and see that his potential lies somewhere in the stratosphere.

He has the potential to be an all around player and transcend to superstar status in a way that is uncharacteristic of young great players - using great defense and good offense.

He is defense first but without a doubt has the tools to be something fantastic offensively. Same can't be said for other forwards like Durant/LeBron/Mello who should all have been lock down defenders from the get-go but instead opted for great offense and good defense (or in the case of Mello, no defense). When it comes to Kawhi, don't see any facet of his game going stagnant because his basketball IQ, maturity level and work ethic is (and always has been) impressive. So things like passing and court vision will come if he wants it to come, and I have no doubt in his determination, drive and will to become the greatest basketball player he can become.

Remember he was born around the time MJ won his first championship; he has 5 - 7 years before he is considered to be in his "prime".
