"Ferrer may be the most under-appreciated No. 4 seed we’ve seen at a Grand Slam event in some time."
Davydenko, of 5-7 years ago, also comes to mind.
Novak be fine for RG, and I expect him to get to the finals especially if Nadal is not is his half of the draw. He will play better in best of 5 set matches.
@Joyce B Jelena Dokic
I can't believe she took it back to being upset over unsigned autographs at 12 years old! Really!?
Does SS have an agent? I can't see how anyone would advise her to go on a tirade against SW. I am not sure how SS' comments are relevant at all. She keeps losing 1st rounds, I guess she has extra time to dish gossip to the press. SW should take the high road and not respond. Or, better yet, have (agent) Jill Smoller "no comment" for her. :)
"Yeah!! I have always wanted to do this, but never have!"
Am I the only one who thought Venus looked sluggish in her singles match? I hope she is able to pickup her energy at AO2013.
I hope Serena's toes are healed.
The beginning of the end? I hope not. I didn't like his chances at Australia, but I would have liked to see how his game was coming along post-hiatus. *sigh* I hope he's back in top shape for the European clay season.
Like Hewitt on the mens side, Hingis benefited from aging predecessors and not-quite-there yet successors. She came along at a key time and used variety and finesse to win Slams. Good for her. However, she would be a Wozniacki or a Radwanska if she played today.
A couple of things. First, Hingis' wins over Serena came before Serena was dominant truly (1998-2001). Hingis had been a multiple slam winner before Serena one her first in 1999 (over Hingis). Hingis rode the momentum of being a GS champion to her wins. Second, I think the Radwanska comparisons are warranted. Radwanska is able to beat more powerful foes with her strategy and touch, just like Hingis. I agree with you that Hingis was a great tactician, but she would have similar success as Radwanska in today's game, even if her age was not a factor.
I agree. I lost a lot of respect for him after the Blake encounters. He is talented, but lucky to have won two slams. Came around at a great time pre-Federer (in his prime) and post-Sampras.
Aberration
"Hopefully, Samantha does well at AO in a few weeks in her home country as pressure is beginning to build."
Don't count on it. Like Mauresmo before her, Sam struggles in dealing with the pressures of a home slam, and her game has historically wilted.
Another off day of tennis "news" in the off season. *sigh*...
#6 - Best of five sets. The women do best of three, so should the men.
#7 - Toweling off between points (and sometimes serves). Slippery slope. Next , ball kids will be carrying players water.
Welcome to tennis news post-US Open, where sensationalism and misleading headlines abound!! BTW, I am expecting far worse stories after the Tour Championships.
Why Melanie Oudin's picture? Is her tennis results (as of late) supposed to inspire confidence in this racquet? Come on Wilson, you can do better.
Isner is such a disappointment. The pressures of being the top US player, especially during the important events, affects his play.
Rafa doesn't need to be thinking about reincarnation, unless his knees have died and are destined to come back healthier.
