@RowdyFromScrubs that's exactly who i keep thinking about. but i do think brunner is a good player who is worth keeping if possible.

@slapshotgoal @Twig @BenSanborn i shouldn't have used the words "bring up" because that implies the goalie would come from GR. really, it depends on the situation. if Jimmy is out 3-4 games, yes, Mrazek is the guy. but if he's seriously hurt or struggling badly, a trade would likely need to happen.
@FisherDude when I list buyout guys like Hossa and Richards, I'm not saying trade for them. I'm saying sign them as UFAs after being bought out. meaning their old cap hit is gone. they'll still be getting paid by their old teams, which means they could possibly (ESP in Richards' case) play for much cheaper while still making bank.

@BenSanborn because if Jimmy Howard is going to be making $5+ million, he needs to be playing a lot of games. Probably 60 or more. Mrazek needs to play in order to develop into the elite goaltender we think he'll become. 20 or fewer starts and the occasional mop-up duty isn't going to cut it. it's best for Mrazek to start 45-55 games in GR and play rather than watch. i know he's good enough to be an NHL backup right now, but he could be even better with more development.
the only issue with his contract isn't the cap hit, but the penalty detroit would have to deal with if he retires early. if holland is confident he'll honor his full contract, keeping him is the right move.
@CM7777 yeah and zetterberg kept losing his mind when toews played him hard, too, right? look, i understand hockey is a tough sport to fully grasp in 3 years, but it's pretty clear that Z was getting to Toews, but Toews never got to Z. have fun with Dustin Brown, though!

@Reddy @Twig small guys will always be penalized, though. shawn hunwick would have an NHL contract right now if he was 6' tall. just make leg pads cover the top of the knee and that's it. also ban composite sticks. and helmets. and colored leather equipment. BROWN ONLY! ok, maybe those last two are a bit much.
@Old Fat Bald Guy never said ignore anyone without a pro-wing bias. just said that there are plenty out there that change their opinions just to get a rise out of fans.
@Reddy @Twig don't mean to take it all out on the goalies. yes, shooters shoot harder now, so they do need extra padding. my only gripe with goalies today is the thigh risers or whatever kids are calling them. like you said, they cover the five-hole with no effort.
@JOHNxJOHN yeah, a couple issues, but i have to agree overall. i was stride for stride with kane(!!!!!) all night. amazing. just amazing.
love that picture of ozzy and roy fighting, btw. i miss hockey like that. a fight resulting from genuine hate rather than staged "message sending." an old-ass coach needing to be held back. alternate captain and future league disciplinarian smiling at the carnage. good times.

Word on Twitter is that Lashoff plays tomorrow. I'm cool with this decision. At his best he's at least been as good as White and Colaiacovo and this year is a great chance to give young guys some playoff experience.
