Love this Ralph.  And I love golf too.  Shoot about like Bill Dorfman.  Ha.  Would love to play with you guys sometime.  Don't get to play as much as I used to.  Like Bill, when I was in Florida (Ft. Hi Lori.  Had to chime in on this one.  I LOVE the ocean.  Mainly the water and beach in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.  I grew up there and hope to eventually move back.  I was just at a lake in SC for a quick visit with relatives.  Didn't have time to enjoy or take a boat out.  A lake is nice and I enjoy it, but their is something special about the ocean, salt water, breeze and sun rises, on the southeast coast of Florida.  Ahhhhhhh.  Can't wait for my next visit. Luv ya.

Great list Daniel.  Hope all is well with you.  The only thing I thought of was, of course to genuinely CARE about people. Ha. and the other one, you kinda covered with #2 Empathetic. and #5 Interesting, made me think of this.  "Be Interested" before being Interesting.   Like you said, people LOVE to talk about themselves.  I we learn to ask relevant and good questions, and LISTEN, the relationship is usually off to a good start.  Make it about them.

Thanks Lori.  Powerful stuff.  Being in "recovery" I have found what works for me is to "Let Go and Let God"  turn it over, ask for help.  Surrender the pain or problem.  It works for me.  I also use other quotes and sayings to live in today, move on and forgive others.  "Yesterday is history, Tomorrow's a Mystery, Today is a Gift, that's why we call it the Present" and "Forgiveness is letting go of all hopes for a better past"  Both of these have helped me a lot.  especially that second one, when I am upset or angry at someone, for what they have done to me. And one last one from the book "A Course in Miracles"  "I  can choose peace rather than this"

It takes practice.  A lot of practice.

I have dealt with some serious issues regarding forgiveness with someone severely injuring my brother in a drunk driving accident.  It took a long time to forgive.  I have no idea how I would deal with the murder of a family member.  wow. I will pray for Jennifer and her family.

Thanks again Lori.

Love this Shonali.  Agree completely.  Get out of our comfort zone and the main thing is treat others HOW we want to be treated, without prejudice (of anything)  The HOW thing is coming up all the time recently.  Maybe it's just me, but if we are Honest with ourselves, have an Open mind and are Willing to see things from anothers perspective, our world can truly expand.  It starts with ME.

Thanks for this awesome post.  The Stones are always playing on my road trips.  Love em.

Awesome post Margie.  Congrats on the two years of blogging.  I plan on reading your stuff a lot more.  This post reminds me of my recovery days. (alcohol & drugs)  Hope is so crucial.  Things WILL get better.  Forgiveness of self was something I had to learn about and also practice. My fav quote; "Forgiveness is letting go of all hopes for a better past"  This really helped me move on.  Also, HOW this works.  Be Honest with yourself, Be Open minded and be Willing to Change.  This is so important, not just in recovery or losing weight, but in life.  When things need to change, it usually means YOU need to change. Take a look at the person in the mirror.

This is so good.  Thanks Allison. So many good points.  Removing ego and becoming "A Part Of" instead of "Apart From"  Actually Listening to the other person.  Wow, there's a concept.  Ha.  Thinking about the meeting before the meeting.  The one with yourself.  Prepare.  Use the HOW acronym.  Be Honest with yourself (and client) have an Open-mind (their ideas might be better) and be Willing to change, adapt and maybe even take suggestions and learn something.  When we collaborate and work together, you form a partnership (thanks Shonali) and when the ego is removed, you really do want success for all parties.  Thanks Erica.

Thanks Lori.  This is great.  I try and always look at the bright side.  Get up every day and first thing is to be thankful.  Practice gratitude. Have an "Attitude of Gratitude"  Smile.  What a difference a simple Smile can make. For awhile now I have focused on staying "Faithful and Grateful".  It works.  All these positive affirmations take practice, it is a change in mindset. For 2012, my mantra is to "Inspire and Influence Positve Change".  The change begins with me and so does the attitude.  Today. I choose to be positive and share that message with others.

Thanks again for this wonderful post on a Monday morning.  Reminds me of Kaarina's post; what a great Opportunity to be Optimistic.  Take CARE.

I sure hope so, Lori.  We have to change the mindset.  Practice new principles.  CARE, if you will.  Changing a habit is not easy.  With the economy the way it is, gas prices, etc., people feel like they have to take care of themselves and "look out for #1".  And they do.  But, we also have to be willing to do what we can to make a difference.

Yeah, that listening post from Bob Burg was great.  let's just try and do that.  Become better listeners.  It takes practice.  I will continue to work on it.  Thanks.

Wow Lori.  Love this.  One of your best.  I couldn't agree more with you.  First of all, as a society, we are over medicated and under educated.  We need to look at the causes , not just the symtoms.  Everyone wants a quick fix, so just give me a pill (or two) and send me on my way.  It's total BS.  A lot has changed over the years.  It seems we as a people, used to care more about each other.  Engage with each other.  Help each other.  We have become a self absorbed society.  "Its all about me" .   Don't get me wrong, their are a lot of people, doing great things and helping others.  I am talking about people in general.

As great as technology is and the wonderful ability of social media, to let us "connect" with so many people, it has led to a "disconnect" with our fellow man.  Our neighbors.

Social media has contributed to us being anti-social.  Kind of ironic.  Sounds like a blog post title.

Especially the new generation.  They don't talk to each other anymore.  Not in person and hardly on the phone either. You said it;

"Even when we’re away from our homes we’re shutting out the world with earphones, texting while we walk, ignoring the people who are right in front of us."

We all need to make a conscious effort to actually speak to people.  Real people.  Say hi.  And most importantly, LISTEN to them.  Care about them and value them enough to really Listen. Just Listen.  We might actually save them a trip to the Doctors office and perhaps another prescription.

Thanks again Lori.  This is a powerful message.

Take CARE.

Al is actually not my real name (surprise) I am named after my father, Paul Alfred Smith.  hence the Al.  personally, i think it was easy to spell and my parents were helping me out.  Al Smith, how easy is that ?

I did receive a nickname in the 8th grade.  Still not sure how it came about.  a friend started calling me "Snooze"  It stuck. especially in college, when I napped just about every day.  Only a couple friends in Atlanta call me that, but all  my buddies back in Ft. Lauderdale still do.  the end.
