@JoeCardillo @EdenSpodek @ginidietrich Exactly Joe and that's why I don't want to see dinosaurs getting credit for Gini's work and that of other people/businesses that have surpassed the barrier.

@ginidietrich @belllindsay Heck, a lot of PR people think they're one and the same. Not kidding.

@ginidietrich @Howie Goldfarb That's crazy. You're an amazing speaker and have a ton to share but how would anyone ask someone they don't know to work with them or speak at an event without doing their homework. You can Google someone and within a few minutes have a least a high-level picture.

Taking a bit of an opposing view here and going out on a limb.

Agreed too many people, including several in PR, think PR is all about publicity. Some PR people and agencies are morphing into the type of work Arment Dietrich does as you've described in your post @ginidietrich. However, many are not. They're either not interested or don't understand how to give their clients what is needed in this new climate. There are also many people/agencies/alliances practicing the type of work you've described who don't necessarily think of themselves as PR people yet they do think of themselves as digital communicators, marketers and/or storytellers or something altogether different.

What concerns me is the uninformed thinking that what you've described is the new PR. But it's not. Too many people who are still lagging behind will get the benefit of this definition, yet not be able to deliver and those who can deliver may be overlooked.

Congratulations @ginidietrich  and the rest of the Spin Sucks team! Not only does the new site look fantastic and is much easier to navigate but now it takes the guess work out of the name. Yes, I was one of those who was confused. Guess I was in good company. ;-)

@ClayMorgan  I love that term Clay! Too many people think platform skill is all it takes to be successful when using social media and/or online marketing for that matter. ;-) I wonder what any of them would do in a crisis? We've seen some interesting situations when that has probably been the case, for example, Google "City of Vaughan social media".

As an extension of yesterday's post,  issues and crisis management (online and offline) is where PR has the opportunity to differentiate itself from other professional services and demonstrate real value to clients.

@ginidietrich I'm looking forward to hearing more after your talk tomorrow. I can't speak for all of company but when I was part of the F-H family, they seemed headed in the right direction several years ago. In Canada, several of the early adopters at the larger PR agencies were swooped up by the ad agencies with larger budgets, in-house creative teams and content producers.

So maybe I am in PR after all?  ;) Are most PR firms and soloproneurs offering the above-mentioned services to their clients? I'm not convinced they are and as a result, they're losing a lot of ground as alternative agencies and service providers step in to fill the gaps. Even several of the agencies I speak with that claim to do these above-mentioned communications but often let them go by the wayside when they're asked by clients to conduct more traditional media relations on a client's behalf.
