I am with you on every single one of these characters. I kept finding myself saying "Yes, Andi-Roo, you are so damn right." My least favorite is the utterly wimpy girly-girl, because I so can't identify with her. Nice post. This gets a spot on my "writerly stuff" Pinterest board and other sharing. Miss you and <3 you. :)

I can't stand the way women are treated, and I am appalled at the treatment of pregnant women. Keep being eccentric and calling out bullshit. It's what makes you amazing.

I call bullshit. The photo is no longer private when it gets uploaded. She really should get over herself. Sorry to be harsh, but it's true.

I'm with you on everything except for "blogtastic". A lot of people use it and have for a loooong time. If people can't be creative enough to come up with their own shit, they need to find another hobby or profession that doesn't include content creation. It pisses me off every time I hear someone has been ripped off by a plagiarist.

Oh, I love the one about excessive widgets and badges to every place you've ever signed up with. What most don't understand is you're simply strengthening and advertising their presence while slowing down your own website. Awesome post. (I'm late, but I told you I'd drop in, so here I am) :-D

@jincomt Yes!! And it sucks when it's one continuing hop or fest. I admittedly do giveaways and reviews, but they are interspersed with tons of great content about a lot of topics people are interested in. I think variety is the spice of life, although others prefer niche marketing (to each its own).

@rdopping Fortunately, if you use good analytics like Quantcast, you can find out a lot about age, gender, ethnicity, location, and viewing habits. Analytics are usually much more than numbers and graphs. Hope that helps!

@madisonjohns11 Blogs that are super busy are distracting. It's best to minimize the number of buttons and "flashing pretties", because it does detract from the content. Great comment, Madison!

@rdopping  @amberrisme That's where analytics come into play. With the right statistics, your audience becomes fairly transparent and helps provide a keen understanding of who your readers are.

@rdopping Agree 100% on too many list posts unless they are just fantastic. Many are not. #5 does take time so I always cut the newbies some slack--as a matter of fact, I usually leave some of the first comments for them to encourage them to continue blogging. I've had several people come and thank me a year later for helping keep them going. It feels good to give back to a community that has been so generous to me.

@wendy meyer Oh, Wendy, I so agree with you there. I also hate complicated Captchas. There are plugins to catch most of the spam and you can moderate. No need to make commenting complicated. Older posts generally don't get much comment action, so I am fairly ambivalent on this point.

@reduteam Regular readers aren't as receptive to leaving comments, but if you're a blogger, you know your community comments usually come from other bloggers. If I can take the time to work full time, be a mom full time, and blog every day while STILL answering every comment and visiting to return a comment to every blogger who leaves their  link, then anyone can. It might take me a little while, but I make it a priority. Community is probably one of the most important facets of a successful blog. Thanks for your comment.
