I think too many people get way too fixated on a single phrase and then miss out greatly on the low hanging fruit of their industry, with much less competition.

Google Keyword tool is a great idea generator for long tails but I also recommend a very inexpensive tool that rocks-- Long Tail Pro.

Good stuff G' :-)

@margieclayman  @Danny Brown This isn't about Emperor's New Clothes because if you talk to someone like Joe Pulizzi he'll come right out and say it's nothing new. I've told many people Content Marketing started about the time of the bible....or earlier. I don't have a problem putting a name to a technique. As for how the technique is performed, that's another entire story. My premise is that content marketing is the art of using great teaching and communication to build consumer trust. But that's mine.

And I do think people should "try" content marketing, even if they can't necessarily do it. Just like folks should "try" riding a bike, or "try" starting a business, or anything else.

Yes, a plan is important, and the work is key, but to me, one must we willing to fail, as with everything in life.

@ginidietrich I'm with you Gini. And considering nervousness heightens our senses, I embrace it...if that makes sense.

Look forward to hearing how it went Lisa!!!

This post made me smile big Lisa. I knew you were a good writer, but the "feel" to this post is the exact reason why I bother to open emails in the first place---because I want to be moved and touched.

For whatever reason, I'm not moved too much online these days, but this one was golden.

Thank You. :-)

Hey Margie, this was cool. You're a forward thinking person, and that's the type of stuff I get into.

Personally, I don't have a clue where all these "platforms" are going...and what the trends will be.

That's exactly why I try to stick with principles, because they're timeless....Like "great teaching leads to greater trust" vs "social media gets you lots of friends"...See what I'm saying?

Keep pushing thought my friend,

Wow Margie, I must admit, I'm a bit surprised, as you seem like the type that is simply wired to write and express...like the words are just always waiting to be written.

But wherever you are, know that you've touched many folks and I'm sure this will only continue in whatever realm you find yourself.

Keep smiling,

I'm going to think about this G', as I really should already have a list. But a couple I'm sure of:

1. That my 4 kids revere the person their father was and they individually know/feel the love I have for them.

2. That I'm able to help millions individuals and families all over the world reach their potential in business and in life.

3. That I'm able to look back with a smile.

Loved your list G'. I have a feeling you may be the best aunt in the world. :-)

I don't think execs should be required to use all this "stuff" we talk about day in and day out, but I do think they have a responsibility to their organization to be aware of marketing tools and trends, and then respond accordingly.

So that's where I have my beef--choosing ignorance over awareness, all because "it ain't their shtick."

To me, that's like being a business owner and never looking at the books because you have an accountant doing it all for you. WTH??

Good stuff G'

Wonderful and thoughtful post G', as always, and you know this is something I've thought about like 1,435,677 time to this point.

Here's the bottom line for me: Comments are great, conversation is healthy, and words from others can certainly inspire....Not withstanding, you (or me, or anyone else) should never feel guilty if business and life simply don't allow for responses.

And readers should respect that.

Let me quickly stop by to pay you some homage Margie ;-)

Like everything else, I think the answer on this one is all over the board. For example, I used to have more time to comment, share, like, etc, etc....but today, I'm overwhelmed, too much so at times. I did a webinar yesterday and got about 100 personal emails from it...Now I'm trying to answer their stuff, and I know I won't have the time to give love to others (I'm here because I needed a mental break and you always offer good mind stimulation Margie).

We can only do what we can do, that's for sure. And it's impossible to know  the reasons why others "appear" not to be as sharing, or "homage paying" as one might want.

And regarding homage, I think it's great to have friends online, it's great to support them, but it's also great to have philosophical debates with them-- something that clearly doesn't happen enough in my opinion.

I'm sure my comment here makes little sense, but like I said, I just needed to muse for a minute :)

Good stuff my friend,
