Peggy,

Indeed, mentoring may be a one way street. Knowledge flows in one direction. From your mentor to you and from you to your mentee and on and on down stream.

How likely is it that you have been both mentor and mentee without even being consciously aware of it. How many people look to you for guidance and ideas? And, how many people have you looked to for the same?

One never reaches the pinnacle. Being open to learning is the key. Being open to sharing what you have learned, is perpetuating the process. The cycle never stops.

Cheers,

Marc

@Erin F. @MZazeela On the contrary, I believe it is simpler than most people think. We tend to over think things when looking on the surface will explain more than digging for answers that may not exist.

Whether one is a natural introvert or extrovert matters little so long as we are conscious of ourselves. When we have that self awareness, we can present ourselves in any way we choose. It may only take a little more effort than we are accustomed to making.

Erin,

Sometimes what seems obvious is not necessarily so. Sometimes folks who are outgoing are closet introverts and vice versa. It is about awareness of ones inner self and the consciousness to overcome our natural tendencies.

Nice list,  Josh. Indeed, you are what you eat.

I might also add one of my favorite, antioxidant containing foods. Coffee! Rich in flavenoids, it has been found to inhibit inflammation. Drink up!

Peg,

I read fascinate twice. My top two triggers are trust and rebellion. It took me a while to really grasp what that means and how to take full advantage.

I really enjoy learning about what makes us all tick and Sally really presents some great ideas.

Passion and rebellion? Seems quite fitting from what I can tell. Your writing is most creative and it is obvious that you really love what you do!

Thanks for the kind words. I am glad to have had a positive impact on you. You certainly have been an inspiration for me.

Particularly interesting are your observations about how SoMe affects different people. Sometimes it may cause relationships to form and blossom. Other times people will hide behind it and use it as a barrier to the real world.  I suppose, as you imply, it all depends on what you want to get out of it. Some folks seam to meander along with no real purpose, others are professionally driven, and still more are all about the social aspects.

I suppose that forming social media relationships is not that different than real life relationships. Some of us do it better than others.

In some sense, the whole Social Media world is the Speaker's Corner of today. Anyone can get on their soapbox and preach whatever they like to whomever will listen. Some will be regarded as crackpots and some as the next Solomon.

In both cases it is all about perception and whether, or not, perception is your reality. For some it will be, for others it will not. It is up to us to determine who/what holds sway over our thinking.

Becky,

Certainly, we can disagree without being confrontational. Assume you are the other person. Why would they think the way they do?

Doug - Number one is the key. As you said most folks skip that step and define success using someone else's criteria.

Are you truly successful or are you simply successful by the measure of those around you?

Thanks for making us think.

Ken,

I find it is always important to read between the lines.  Who produced the report? What is their intent? Do they have a specific agenda?

Statistics can be 100% accurate, yet manipulated to produce a certain conclusion.
