@cblack66 I tend to not put too much emphasis on that. I mean Bylsma was never showing any emotion... even on that picture when the Pens won the cup. Also, Sutter (Kings, not our own Brandon) looks like a complete idiot behind his bench but he is seen as a good coach. Some people just have weird facial expressions or lack thereof and same has body language/demeanor. Like you said, hard to know for sure. But I can't see how 3 person that have been coaching for a long time would just stand there watching their team play like shit and now do anything about it ever.

@cblack66 Well maybe that has been tried as well and didn't give any results. We are at a 2nd coaching staff, lots of different new players from all over the league... I can't imagine a single one of them didn't try that option yet (wasn't this one of the reason for hiring Tocchet?) and it seems like it didn't have any effect.
@Ungaba @jammonstrald I have trouble with the whole leading thing. I mean these guys are all adults (okay maybe except Pouliot :P), they are pros, getting paid millions to play the game that the should love. They should not need some motivational speeches or another guy telling them to step up. They have worked their whole life to get to that level and if they have no more desire to play, then it's probably them for then to hang them up.
I can appreciate how a leader might be needed at lower levels but this is the NHL. This is suppose to be the best players on the whole planet in the game of hockey, they know how the game works, they know how to play it and they know they aren't doing a good enough job right now. I don't see how having another of your playing yelling at you or pointing you out in public (or in private in front of other players) will suddenly light a fire under their ass.
@PenGeno @LP66 @Who Really Cares Lol wow. . well sounds like a nice feature, if used correctly. I wouldn't be against the NHL to try and include more of those in the future.

@Who Really Cares What happened to Downie? Did I miss something last night? I don't remember him leaving or something like that.
@PenGeno @Who Really Cares Did they use this for some cool close to the ice footage at least? I wouldn't mind it if it meant seeing replays from that vantage point now and then.
@jfaulkguitar You are a poet of modern days!

@Who Really Cares I think it has something to do with age and/or NHL games played. While he might not be at the # of NHL games played since we was injured so often, I think he might be approaching the age limit. But don't quote me on that.
@Ungaba @jfaulkguitar @BigPen596 Youtube videos? Yoda?
@Who Really Cares Exactly, Im with you on that one. Only problem is I don't know if Bennett is waiver eligible next season ? I am not too sure how that works. So he might be stuck in the minors or the NHL.
@Ungaba @jfaulkguitar Rename the team to something that starts with another letter and all these issues will be fixed. Now we only need to find a name that starts with a letter for which they could absolutely not have any issues? The Pittsburgh Yinzers?
@jfaulkguitar The 5 Ps of Pens Problems!
@Ungaba @LP66 @cblack66 Well wasting a spot won't be a problem next year with that kind of lineup.. Half of it can be sent back to the AHL as needed. And if Bennett happens to be the HS of the night, so be it. It's not worth letting another young prospect walk away for nothing. Likely, with that kind of lineup the Pens have so much cap space that they can afford to carry him around.

@Ungaba @cblack66 They have no reason to not offer Bennett a new contract at this point. He's still a RFA and will likely asks for a big raise since he has nothing to show for and arbitration would probably not work out on his favor. Also, he's at an all time low right now so nothing good to fetch in a trade for his rights and no team will tend him an offer sheet. Also, the Pens stock of wingers is pretty thin so might as well keep him around while he is still cheap. Maybe an off-season training with Gary Roberts will do him some good. If he has a decent season next year, either you keep him or you trade him for assets because he will have more value than right now.
@YorkPens @Ungaba @cblack66 While I like your idea, this line up is wayyyy too full of rookies with little to none NHL experience. You rely on people that have never proven anything at this level. For example, KK had a so-so season in Europe and now we throw him on a NHL 1st line? This management and coaching staff will never allow that in their "win-now" mode, even if we are currently not winning.
Also, you forgot Lovejoy in your defense lineup but even then, the Pens reasoning to trading Dsepres was to bring experience to the blue line. Remove Letang and Dumoulin from your lineup and you end up with a defense that has played less than 200 NHL games altogether.... don't see that happening. Also, I am not sure why you would put Dumoulin wth Letang on the 1st pairing, Dumoulin hasn't look that great in his NHL games and I wouldn't throw him out there as a first pairing dmen. Maatta would be more likely.
That girl behind the Pens bench sums pretty well how I felt last night (and probably many of you as well). I am sure I did the same face while watching the game on my TV, can't imagine spending money to see it live. Also, it was only 2-1 at that point... would like to see her look when it was 4-1 or 5-1...
@Ungaba @LP66 @Laviator_ I guess you are right, I just have the thought of Orpik and Scuderi saying the team needs to be better (last year) and them not doing anything to help the team getting better by not fixing their horrible plays. I just can't shake the feeling that that's what Lovejoy will do too. I can only wish I am wrong.
@Ungaba @LP66 @Laviator_ I see your point, but I doubt Sid (and any other players) talks like that in the room behind closed doors. I am not sure the guys are sitting there in the room during intermission saying 'yeah we have to stick to our game, make them work hard and capitalize on our chances' but I could be wrong...
That's just the answers they are taught to give to the media to avoid giving them something juicy they can turn in a extraordinary story that makes no sense.
@cblack66 Yeah I kinda hope the NHL realized that the trade was somehow made after the deadline and cancels it lol.
@Ungaba @Laviator_ He does, but he also doesn't seem to be stepping up to fix what he says needs to be fixed. He can say what needs correcting all day long but if he doesn't do it himself, what good does it do?

@Ungaba @JDogg It's like they lost the will to win and killer instinct they had to start the season. How many times did the Pens jump out to a quick lead in the 1st period at the beginning of the season? Often, they would soon add another quick goal and it was 2-0 before Jeff Jimerson finished singing the anthems. Trailing to the pens was feared by other teams and with the threat of the poweplay it was even worst. Now, any teams know that they can always come back on the Pens and aren't scare of taking penalties because they know the PP won't punish them.
@JDogg @LP66 Hey you are tight! At least the afternoon game is against the team that is looking for ways to lose games, so it might not be a total disaster!
@JDogg @LP66 Don't worry, no offense taken. I was feeling the same last night. At least we got the weekend to look forward to... oh wait, Pens play on both days??? Better go back to the beer store.
@JDogg It was more to the point that you could find this video by searching "Motivational Hockey Speaches". Yeah I understand your point, but all I am saying is that no one on the past 2 coaching staff seems to be able to do so. I thought that's one of the reason Tocchet was brought in but so far we haven't seen that (obviously, we don't know for sure since we are not in the locker room). At this point in the season, you have to ride with what you have.
@JDogg Not much of a motivational speech if you ask me. I assume some was edited out but still. How have his speeches turned out in the past few seasons? The players didn't seem to be more interested in playing solid hockey than lately.

@The66thDopefish @Con_Soul11 Do you mean Boston? The caps are already in the playoffs with that 1st WC spot. I don't see why the Pens would want to take that much of a risk just to try to get a better match for 1st round. They have no way to control who they are going to face if they fall to the WC spots. Even then, it's not like the Habs are a sure win.
I remember (I think it was the cup year) people were saying purposely lost a few games at the end to draw the Sens (they were battling with soooo many injuries). That work out well for them, but in this case I don't believe it's something that will turn out in their favor.
@Farnsworth Agree, it wasn't his best performance but also can't really blame in on all the goals. I think it would be time to sit Fleury to give him some rest and give some more starts to Greiss. The team is wasting away Fleury's good season and I can't think that it will help his morale/focus getting so many losses just before the playoffs.
@Hibbits He was looking good at training camp and early on with Sutter but I think those injuries and mumps kinda put him out of shape and he was never able to re-gain it during the season. Hopefully he can work on that during the off-season with Gary Roberts. He's a RFA and well he might get a little bit of a raise, he probably won't get much (he has nothing to show for) so he's still a cheap option for the Pens. And since there is nothing in terms of wingers in the AHL, why not keep him around a little bit longer? It's not like he has any kind of value right now. Maybe with a decent start of the season next year (and a cheap multi year contract) he'll be able to fetch some kind of decent return.
@Con_Soul11 Well I hope not. I'd rather seem them face the Isles than the Rangers (or a red hot Price?)... There is still a 50-50 chance they end up playing the top Metro team even if they are in a WC spot. The race between the Habs and Rangers is tight and will be until the last game.
@Who Really Cares Letang as winger confirmed!
6 days, 4 hours ago on Conversation @ http://thepensblog.com/
@Ungaba @LP66 If they do go 11F/6D hopefully Downie doesn't get his "Game misconduct of the week TM" tonight.
@Ungaba @LP66 That could be the plan as well! But then I would think they would have left Ebbett play 1 more game and go with a regular 12/6 line up.
That or they gonna move Letang to forward. /s
@Ungaba @LP66 Or Ehrhoff isn't really ready to play again and they'd rather have 6 D and play a forward short instead of the other way around :S
Hopefully you are right, I'd rather have Malkin than not (unless he's not 100%) but it would be strange for him to skate alone with Horny and not during the morning skate if he plans to play tonight.
@Ungaba Haven't seen the confirmation for Malkin? He was skating earlier with Horny, but did not skate with the team during the morning skate.
@Quote_The_Birdman @LP66 Exactly. It will never happen, just like Scuderi will not be scratched either (not unless we clinch and the coach really believe he needs a rest).

@Craig Ross @cblack66 You know who else has been underperforming for about a year ? Pretty much all the rest of the NHL superstars that are not named Ovechkin that relies on speed, puck control and going to the net to score. The league has allowed teams to interfere, grab and hold, etc to prevent that high-speed game and it has reflected on each team superstars except Ovie who gets most of his goal on the PP or from shots around that same spot during 5 on 5 play.
@Craig Ross @cblack66 Like we discussed you and I last time, Crosby isn't going anywhere, whether you like it or not. Even if the Pens were open to trading him, they couldn't.
Knowing he's gonna be around for 10 years, you could find another team to cheer for meanwhile until he retires if he's so insufferable for you. Maybe just follow the WBS Pens if you want to stick around this organisation? Maybe that will make you a happier person?
To quote your own word, "Nuff said". Stop talking and move on.
@Craig Ross @cblack66 Oh yeah, and the fact that Comeau and Horny have that kind of production is in no way, shape or form related to the fact they are playing with either Crosby or Malkin?
@Bing_87 Thanks for the clarification, I'm no expert either but I knew it was related to # of games/days you have to miss.. Do they get full cap relief on IR as well?
1 week, 3 days ago on Conversation @ http://thepensblog.com/2015-archives/recap-game-71-the-collapse-of-the-penguins-stars-win-2-1.html
@Who Really Cares Because if you put a player on LTIR they have to miss a minimum of 10 days (or is it games?) and they don't want to shut down that possibility if they are ready before that. Also, they can always do it retroactively if needed (lets say the need another call up to replace Downie) which would allow them enough cap to bring Pouliot + a replacement for Downie
@Redacted_66 I still think he was best served going back to his team and have a big impact there.. Apparently his team is stacked there and are looking for a great playoff run... that can only help him even more. He wouldn't have played as much in WBS IMO. Also, not sure about the whole ELC thing but does it count towards it if he plays in Europe VS WBS?
@Craig Ross @LP66 @dptpitt Soooo you got no solution? Then I guess we are stuck for better or for worse... no use arguing/complaining about it then!
@brendannn Come on.. everyone knows they are just saving it for the last week of regular season and playoffs! /s
@rudiad @LP66 @Statuesque God of War @PenGeno Hahahaha, it could make for more entertaining hockey than recently! :P
@Craig Ross @dptpitt If this is reasonable and you are the only other reasonable person here, please answer my question for him below (because he didn't/couldn't). What kind of trade do you do for Sid and who takes over for his NHL leading points (or close)?
@rudiad @Statuesque God of War @PenGeno Both Toews and Kane make more than Sid... I don't see how we would be able to even dress 20 players. We would have to play 3 lines and 4 dmen only !!
