@Sergey Kazachenko my point was not on of TAM rather one of style of developing apps. Starbucks initiates a transaction using a FIFO queue but then proceeds to process the request in a manner that is optimized for fast delivery of results in total. They'll make a latte at different speeds than teas or smoothies and deliver whichever result is completed first. How do they maintain integrity? By writing "Dave" on my cup!

Unbelievable John...thanks for breaking this story and keeping it in the public domain. The comments about SOA in the rant and in the blog comments are very interesting. SOA IS in the conversation again as we heard from Larry Ellison talking about the Oracle Public Cloud last week. Say what you want about Oracle but the company invests in R&D and has a leader that values engineering. Great work - keep it coming!

Great points John. Your post makes me wonder about HP's roots and strategy going forward.Apple clearly showed that a company struggling for innovation can still innovate. Of course that came with the leadership of Steve Job. HP buys Compaq. It buys EDS. It's buying Autonomy (maybe). Can Meg Whitman get HP get back to its original logo - "Invent?"
