Sunshine's music fits perfectly. Beautiful !
The two main problems with books are clearly time and randomness. And they're connected. If you don't spend too much time, you get visible repetitions. And if you try to avoid these repetitions, you start to spend a huge amout of time just arranging books.
To quote Pixela, it's even worse than organising a real bookcase, because you need to texture, scale, rotate and finally place the books.
This script fixes both problems, while provinding a very natural result. A must have.
Very nice Making-of !
yellowpinkfoxjiminy-billy-bob Thanks :)
Congrats to the winners ! They really deserved it.
As a CG newbie, I'm glad I received this Honorable Mention. It feels so good to see my work recognized like this.
I'm looking forward for the next challenge. And thanks again to Ronen and the Sponsor to make such an event possible !
Congrats everybody !If I have time, I'll try to make a review from this MightyTiles licence :)
A great thanks to Ronen and the Sponsors
yellowpinkfoxronenbekermanjiminy-billy-bob I just saw your posts. Well, I'm glad you figured it out by yourself, because I had no idea how to help you.
I myself had some troubles with the unwrap mod and sketchup imported geometry (Spline mapping for instance)
Great lighting !
DeanMoranjiminy-billy-bob Well sorry, I don't know anything about Mental Ray.
About lighting, have you tried with a very simple render setup ? Like a simple sun, alone. See if it comes from the lighting or the render settings. (It doesn't seem to come from your materials, they seem pretty simple without displacement or anything)
Does it take longer on specific parts of the image ?
Nice. But the foreground car is way too reflective !
And you have clearly a problem with your render settings. What's your hardware ? If you're note familiar with render settings, there are some plugin that can manage them for you (Like Solidrocks for Vray)
And what is your lighting setup ?
ronenbekerman I won't, actually. The other season is illustrated in my second image with a different POV : http://challenge.ronenbekerman.com/citylife/thomashauchecorne/2011/12/19/2nd-pov-postwork/
The night for this image is a good idea, but I'll stick to the morning mood. 'Cause at night you won't find a market like that, you won't see as much the city and environnement. Plus, my second image has already this night/dusk mood. But after the deadline, I think I'll try it, with more time and no pressure ! :)
yellowpinkfox Yeah sure, go ahead ! It's actually the first time in a very long time that I use 3dsmax. Usually I don't need this amount of vegetation and Vray for Sketchup is just fine.
But I learned a lot for the Challenge, so maybe I can answer your questions.
(I'm staying until July)
AndriusSkibaris Yes obviously ! I usually do a washed out render and punch it in post, in order to have more control.
In fact, I'm working on this right now.
But thanks for the comment ! And if you see anything else...
Do you plan to detail the white skyscrapers ?
yellowpinkfox Thanks for your critics, I'll work on that.
(You're German ? I'm studying in Hannover this year, aber ich spreche nicht Deutsch jetzt, hehe)
ronenbekerman Haha, same question !
I don't get the ralation between this and your previous images.
sdwhitton He could even use a Zdepth pass to apply a lens blur filter for the tilt-shift effect. It would be even more realistic.
Sweet !
nnamdiakubuiro Sketchup. I'll use 3dsmax only for some UV unwrapping and rendering (Vray for Sketchup lacks of atmospheric/fog effects, proxies and some other stuff)
