@iamwallace Go back and read all the other many many posts about the draft philosophy of the man who writes this blog and it becomes clear.

Hmm, you have an Oline that can't block so you are the #8 deep passing attempt team in the NFL??? WTF!!!!!

I agree with dbs50, brilliant summation. Not much to add.

@I Bleed Blue As much as I hate TC, you make a good point, his team did not quite on him.
8 months ago on PLAY THROUGH IN WEEK 17
@I Bleed Blue I am sorry but you can't count 4 of those wins. They were playing teams that were not starting NFL Qb's. If if if they had beaten those 4 soundly then I might give them the win but they just about beat them
Take away Hills pic against the Lions and they want 2-8 and should be a 2-14 team headed for for an off season trying to hire a new coaching staff. Instead of that, we get the same old same old mediocre football we have gotten since plax shot himself.
@mezzanineI agree. Eli is the worst dump off passer I have ever seen and it's just not his game. Amen to Tom being gone.

All I have to say is I like Shannahan going for 2 with .19 seconds left to win the game and not go for the OT tie. He is on his way out anyway so why the hell not give it a try.
Would not surprise me if they come out and play inspired like in the 90's when they beat a previously unbeaten Broncos team. The Giants are notorious for playing to the level of their opponents in the past.
8 months, 2 weeks ago on SD 37 NYG 14
In the last 40 years, when have the giants really drafted/traded for a stud WR? Plax and Nicks are it. Toomer was good but not a stud. Odds are against it if past history is any indicator of future happenings.

Brad has been reading your blog Andy? lol
I guess he gets a pass cause with the hand he is dealt, ie: no LB's, hurt DE's he has made the best of it.
I don't think they are mutually exclusive any more. You almost always need both. An Oline and a stud WR.
With our luck, they will more killdrive up to HC. LOL
CommanderShepard You want me to give up my dream of a world without killdrive and TC on the sidelines? Never. I can always hope.
I don't think it will be enough. They still love the guy and he loves killdrive. Like the mayor said, Oline will be scapegoat to keep the status quo.
I hope you are wrong on this but I don't think so. Only a total 2/14 season would bring a change.
I never assumed they would get rid of him in any scenario, what I do believe is without a total collapse, they will definitely NOT make a change. Hence, my argument for lossing.
Andy, you don't think Nicks was just hurt? I have no idea. I don't have time anymore to read up on the team like I used to. The only news I read about the Giants is this blog. (jezz, i'm getting old and lazy. lol)
What I have seen is Nicks much better in the last few games they I have seen him in a few years and like i said, in this NFL, you need a true stud #1 to put you over the top. I like your idea of the Arrrington type deal (I would have loved to see how good that team would have been had he stayed healthy, he was just coming around when he went down)
Only if they went 2/14 would they fire Tom and/or force him to get rid of killdrive. Winning 5 games to me means the same old same old exactly like the Mayor said. Only thru being very very bad for a year would the owners make a change. With those 4 garbage wins (will not put washington win in there) we are doomed to at least 1 more year of poor coaching.
Only thing I disagree with in the above post is the importance of Nicks. They part ways with him this team will never see another SB with Eli unless they get lucky and get another true number #1. You can't win in the NFL anymore without one true stud WR. Case in point, when Plax went down, so did the Giants. When Brady did not have Gronk, they were not nearly as good. The only way to overcome that is with a super QB like a Rogers or Big Brother Manning. Eli is just not good enough.
@the mayor The Mayor Said, "The curse of those 4 crap games against garbage qb's robbed us of
wholesale change. It's gonna be 2 more years of garbage before anything
CommanderShepard Your taking this way to seriously. If you feel I am talking down to you that is not my intention.
8 months, 3 weeks ago on Giants 24 Redskins 17
And I say the same thing about people who go to games and boo the home team. Does that make me right? Does that make them right?
Your trying to take how you feel and project it onto another. When I was younger I could never ever feel the way I do know about this subject. Does that make the younger me better than the older me? According to you, yes it does. Older me begs to differ.
@Paddlepedal Like your comments paddle but I can't agree with some of them. Your making assumptions on why I want them to lose. I don't want them to lose so the get better draft choices. I want them to lose for one reason and that's Coaching change (s),
While I would love to see TC gone I would at least hope for KB to be gone.
Losing the rest of the way does not necessarily mean that the players are no good. Wholesale change usually comes when the head coach loses the locker room and the team has a cancer. This team does not. Players like Rolle and Eli will try and prevent that from happening. The Giants always seem to draft not just for physical ability but also guys who are team players.
@CommanderShepard Root? No. Hope they don't win. Yes. By rooting for them to win meaningless games, you are rooting for your team to fail because winning these games means the inept coaching staff gets to stay and lose more games year after year.
8 months, 4 weeks ago on Giants 24 Redskins 17
The only positive I took from this game was Nicks finally showed up. Other than that, I wish they had lost. Any wins the rest of the year just help insure TC and KG stay just where they are.

This is why I hate Tom C so much. This is from the Pat Traina article Andy put a link to above.
" Head coach Tom Coughlin always talks about the importance of balance, so when asked after the game if he was tempted to run the ball more given the success that phase of the offense was having, he replied, “No. We’re a balanced team. We play for balance.”
This goes directly to comments made earlier on this blog about why not stick to the run when it is working. Killdrive is not the only problem on this team. Tom is the driving force of stupidity and he needs to go. Without overwhelming superior talent and the greatest luck of anyone ever, he will just kill this team for years to come. His stubbornness will be our undoing as noted in the above quote. Hell, in toms eyes, why stick with what works.

@ultimatenyg Agree, Eli is not the issue. I believe you only get better in the NFL at QB the longer you get to play and start. That is until the body begins to break down. Mentally, guys like Eli and Simms and other true drop back QB's just get better with experience. Simms last few years with the team were his best by leaps and bounds. ( I will never ever forgive Reeves for cutting him. Dave Brown??? OMG)
WIth out time to throw, Eli's entire game is thrown off and without Nicks out there to help bail him out and without a TE also, he is just in to deep for his skill sets.
Rogers is way way better than Brady, Brady just plays for a great coach with plays to his skill sets. Hell, Belichick made Matt Cassil into a star.
@pdmeyerh I for one don't think I am overestimating how much talent or lack of a coach can overcome. Why is it that the Patriots almost never ever get blow out. Even why they lose they are still in the game. While not everyone can be as good a coach as belichick we can at least be somewhat better than we have been. As buljos pointed out in his comment, "Gilbride doesn't make Dallas stop the run, he stops the run... "
9 months ago on DAL 24 NYG 21
@CommanderShepard @RussWellen1 Should have never come down to a last minute drive. Cowgirls D is just bad and how many redzone trips did we have that game and come way with FG's? With the running game working so well, that is just unforgivable.
@pdmeyerh Problem is, when the O-line is not playing well you can do some things (screens and such) that can help them out but killdrive never ever does that. He is the in the flesh definition of insanity. Doing the same thing over and over but expecting a different outcome.
@buljos I agree with your post except the killdrive as HC. God forbid.
@I Bleed Blue LOL
Where has Arturo been?
@pdmeyerh I thought Rolle did a fine job. You can't defend the perfect throw and Romo made a few on that last drive. Heck, Rolle was all over him and still Dez made the catch. Remember, the other guys are pro athletes too and I think that gets forgotten sometimes.

@jfoster "The two Superbowl wins cover up a multitude of mediocre football."
@RussWellen1 Not sure if Browns style will get him a long enough career to become great. Good analysis on Jacobs.
9 months, 2 weeks ago on NYG 27 GB 13
@CommanderShepard I don't see it as rooting against my team. I see it as hoping for better in the future with at the very least, killdrive gone. If that takes hoping they lose when it's a lost cause anyway(IMHO), then that's how I feel. LIke I have said before, I would never ever go to a game and boo the team no matter how bad they played. Other obviously don't feel the same way. That doesn't make one of us right, just different.
@ultimatenyg Good stuff. For me it comes down to one thing, can Pat Flaherty get this Oline to protect Eli? If he can pull off another miracle like he has done in the past then they have a shot at making the playoffs.
If you look around the NFC it's a whose who of mediocrity. I don't think I have even seen this conference so bad.
The third best record in the NFC is shared by six teams and they are all hardly over .500
@ultimatenyg Only thing alpha about brandon was his mouth. \
Agree that those above mentioned are very pleasant surprises but until the Oline can pass protect, all those fancy toys we have are useless.
Today when it counted, the oline was just bad. Jezz, 2 sacks at a critical time in the game against a depleted team.
Score 20-13. GB just scores and have Mo. Giants give up 2 sacks at the worst time and give it right back to GB. If JPP does not get his pic 6 against inferior competition we might not have even won this game. This team is going no where and these BS wins are just helping to keep the same coaching staff in place for at least another year.
On another note, I have never ever liked brandon jacobs (his play, not as a person) but he has improved his game since coming back. Someone I was watching the game with said that maybe San Fran coached him up. I had never thought about that but it makes perfect sense.
@RichConforti @RussWellen1 Now if he can only stay healthy
9 months, 2 weeks ago on Andre Brown Continues to Push Through Obstacles
@I Bleed BlueThat would be a tall order indeed. That would only be a bandaid on a systemic problem that will lead to things staying the same. What I mean is, if we win a few games and maybe, because of the horrid play in the NFL in general, make the playoffs, we will be stuck with the same OC and HC next year. We will not go anywhere in the playoffs with no Oline so what's the point in just making it. We would need any given sunday 3 sundays in a row to win another SB
9 months, 2 weeks ago on NYG 24 OAK 20
@jfosterThat's because there is more pressure on him then past seasons and yes, it is a cumulative effect. The clock in your head gets faster. Not having a OC who knows WTF he is doing and makes no adjustments and can't even coach his team to run a simple screen does not help matters any.
The first step to finding the "new york groove" is, at the very least, a new OC and then a new head coach.
9 months, 2 weeks ago on Giants Third Straight Win Keeps Sliver of Hope Alive to remain on The Road to Metlife
@Paddlepedal @CommanderShepard @RussWellen1 I also agree with CS and PP, Eli is the man. The only QB in the NFL I would take over Eli would be his brother or Rogers.
@I Bleed Blue Without a Oline that can protect, the passing game will not improve. The safety in the box will mean nothing if Eli can't wait for his receivers to clear.
@jfoster When you have no time to look down field and you are not a mobile QB you are dead. Tom Brady was made to look ordinary by our D in both SB due to pressure. Eli is the same Eli he has always been IMHO. I have heard Simms and other say it time and time again, pressure gets to you, even when there is no pressure the clock in your head gets sped up.
As for your examples of never say never, none of those teams won it all and like I said previously, I am willing to trade this season to once and for all be rid of Tom and Killdrive.
