seems my exchange below sparked a blog post by SojPass. glad to have bw in high places in my corner :D

@WorldTravelingChic @Butterfly1010
its times like these where you need to have your sister or other close friends casually meet him to see...what's up LOL. there's no shame in making sure....only less time wasted :)
"they should get on twitter and live tweet....it saved Scandal."
THEY SO SHOULD. someone should tweet that to Nicole.
Deception tried doing that but it was only a few of the cast.
They should do it Scandal style....ALL OR NOTHING :)
"hey are confused and hurting inside. You're right! There is no reason to declare that you are LGBT. My point is, that no matter how you spin this...being a homosexual still isn't easy in most parts of the world. No, it doesn't excuse you for abusing the partner you have. You should know better. "
I feel you girl :)
some shows w/ bw as main characters or recurring characters you ladies may want to check out are:
Scandal, Veep, Person of Interest (LOVE), Suits, Justified (LOVE), The Good Wife, The Carrie Diaries and The Neighbors(LOOOOOOVE)
RIP Deception. NBC canceled it and I will forever hate them for it!!
Good News!!! Nicole Beharie has a new show on in the fall on Fox called Sleepy Hollow.....let's just say there is a GOOD chance that she will be swirling with the other leading man :) bad news is there seems to be a bm cockblock similar to Deception. Regardless, it looks great:

The Neighbors is AMAZING!!!
Also checkout the show Veep for another funny (thin and beautiful) black actress :)
@Ladybug7 @DWB @Brice Cameron @Brenda55
Ladybug, I think we're getting off topic here and its CLEAR to me you are not as informed as you think you are with folks who lean right politically. I'm cringing at the opinions you try to pass off as facts *shakes head*
"I would say that I know many women who aren't black who have dated, married, and have children with men who turn out to be gay. It isn't about admission nor denial. The black community doesn't make it easy for black men to come out."
1st you say it happens in non-black collectives and then you point the fingers at the black community. at this point the black community IS black women, and I am comfortable saying the overwhelming majority of black women are not homophobic. keep in mind being against gay marriage does not make one homophobic. Lord knows I and other bw attract gay men, in my case white gay men, like a flame attracts a moth lol
Correct me if I'm wrong but I used to attend meeting promoting diversity on campus, including LGBT. The speakers there had an end goal of gay people not NEEDING to declare to the world that they are gay. straight folks don't do it, so why should we, they said. All Jason and the gay men like have to do is, idk.......NOT GO OUT with women. Unless that relationship was were you finally got the clarity to realize you are gay, there's no reason to be fooling people into thinking you're straight.
I'm telling you. When we start to see more men like this in the media stringing these girls along (yes she should NOT have been w/ him for 8 years), they will start to lose a lot of sympathy from their allies.
"Maybe that's something only black women say."
EXACTLY. This may happen to ww MORE than bw but ww actresses in general aren't DUMB enough to be broadcasting their business like this.
this is yet another case of a bw OTHERING herself.
im wondering if this has to do with our suppression of things like "gaydar". people get super sensitive when you say that you can pretty much tell a guy is gay, but we're encouraged to stick around because maybe he's just SUPER metro and sensitive *rolls eyes*
i've seen this happen to some ww friends in uni. they had their suspicions but friends told them to stick it out. many months or years later BOOM, dude is out and proud.
"Which is quite scary."
which makes it even more important that bw get their partners tested BEFORE any sexual activity/hold off until marriage or they're in a LTR.
i hate when people just suggest condoms thinking that it prevents the spread of HIV/AIDS and other STDs. lowers risk does NOT equal PREVENTION.
your comment contributed nothing but making fun of her for being obese. at least be honest about it. im young not stupid.
as you were....
white folks like you are bold these days aren't you?? i've seen your comments around the bwe hood for awhile so this comment doesnt surprise me...
"
Do you remember all the hate that Jason got from the media and how they rejected him?
Yeah ... me neither."
AHAh
black men can no longer claim victimhood in this country.
they threw a straight WHITE WOMAN under the bus in favor of a gay BLACK DUDE. i wonder how long this type of public treatment will last tho before ww start whining about it.
as for me and other smart bw, we'll be sitting quietly on the sidelines NOT GETTING INVOLVED. both sides are more than capable of hashing this out themselves.
Betty Chamber's post is on point about this mess:
http://bettychambers.com/?p=2456
Jason is nothing but a coward and an opportunist. From lying to his girlfriend for 8 years about the nature of their relationship to orchestrating that bizarre PR phone call of congrats with Obama.....its all so messy.
Being gay or choosing not to tell people you are gay doesn't give you the right to be an a-hole. He gets no sympathy from moi. Gays want to be the new black? you got it!! I don't coddle grown men who make childish CHOICES. its 2013 not 1955. Folks would do well to remember that.
*cue the "you're a homophobe" comments*
as for Gabby, she needs to have several seats....actually she needs to get up and take a nice LONG walk....
i hope she goes the Jennifer/Mo'Nique route and loses the weight. I can't imagine how uncomfortable she is at that size :(
almost every white actress ive seen has had to do SOME type of cosmetic change whether it was hair color, prosthetics, a tan, staying out of the sun, starving themselves, etc to fit the bill for a role and black actresses should have the FREEDOM to do the same.
people haven't even seen the darn thing and are crying like Zoe shot their puppy. if folks have a problem they should take it up with the CASTING DIRECTORS, not the actress. its a cheap shot to go after Zoe imo. people actually had the nerve to ask Zoe to"do the right thing" and "step down" from the role. *blank stare*
sensitive black folks and white social justice warriors kill me with their concern trolling.
"But i'm certain there are actresses out there who would fit the role much better. "
I had other actresses in mind to but....$$$$$$$$$$$. none of the other ladies would have brought the attention and audience that Zoe can and I'm sure their are other reasons we will never know about for why she was chosen. if its not this role, then people are picking on her for identifying as a black AND Latina woman as if she shouldn't have more than 1 identity. i hope she continues to ignore the naysayers.
sincerely,
Zoe Stan #1
:D
@kia I have no problem agreeing with this even though I have upstanding and successful bm in my own family. HECK my own father is warning me to be careful. He's made it quite clear what his expectations are and that I shouldn't bother bring home any bums.
I cracked up when he mentioned that my future husband could be white and that it was okay with him as long as we had similar values. I wont repeat everything my dad said about the state of Black America bc i know someone will get their panties in a bunch, but please believe Black fathers that care about their black daughters know what time it is and they will do everything in their power to make sure their daughters do not end up with Lil BooBoo, LeTroyTroy and DoRayMeFamonte from the block :)
"I think black men have the SAME educational opportunities as black women. Black women and black men grow up side by side together in the SAME NEIGHBORHOOD OR COMMUNITY."
WRONG. there is WAAAAAAAYYYY more attention given to black boys and black men than there is to the little black girls and young black women AND YET, black women STILL find a way to come out on top and succeed :)
And guess what? non-blacks know that. they may not say it, but they are aware if not become aware of what's going on. I'm just waiting for more black women to get their head out of the sand....
just thinking aloud here...
"Author Teri Woods, a self made millionaire and admits that she would rather have a man from prison than be lonely — in so many words."
looking at the amount of single moms in black Hollywood, i can tell a lot of people have taken that route. It's interesting to see how much black Hollywood/entertainment in general mirrors the black ghetto's lack of values while the black "old-money" community appears to still have their act together. Both groups have the $$$$ but the behaviors and values are different, and if they are the same, the old money crew has enough decency to keep that mess behind closed doors.
Just looking at that cover and the interviews of some black starlets, I wouldn't be caught dead taking ANY kind of advice whether it be dating or networking from black Hollywood, especially black actresses. A few of them have done well for themselves and have made brilliant choices when it comes to relationships and gaining more positive exposure for themselves like Gina Torres, Zoe Saldana, Naomie Harris, Nicole Behaire, etc, but most of them have not been as strategic and cutthroat as I see w/ white actresses and black actors. (Khadija's recent post about how black actors could care less about black actresses' progress was spot on!!)
You saw all the sh$! Zoe got for playing the role of Nina Simone. I'm glad she stuck to her guns and let the naysayers run their mouths. Zoe is looking out for me, myself , and I and it SHOWS in all of the roles she's taken (Colombiana, Star Trek, Avatar....rumor is she'll be in the new Star Wars films that JJ Abrams may be directing...i say good for her). This ME FIRST attitude is something I would like to see more of in black women entertainers who are WAYYYYY to giving and lenient. Haters be damned :)
