I find this hard to believe. I think this is a matter of opinion individually.  Columnists are like politicians, they will say whatever it takes to get people to read their column, get their votes.  I have downloaded and played around with the new Google Maps on my iOS/iPhone... I still like the Google Maps on my Android/LG Nexus 4... But then again, that just my opinion and my own experience.
