Richardson was not impressive. I see the colts' on the waiver wire for offensive line help and secondary as well. I mean it is pre-season, but how do you blow a 26-0 lead in the fourth quarter! Harnisch is awful, he should be cut, and not take up space on the PS. You can add a safety, or an extra cb.

The colts may find a few diamonds in the rough with this UFDA'S list. What player on this list could become a kick-returner/ punt returner threat for the colts?

I thought that grigson had another strange and inconsistent draft. There were better players available than the ones he drafted, for example Jackson or Martin. Does the colts' front office know something about these players that the fans don't know?

I agree with you Kyle, the second round pick was not too sexy. I wanted Martin or Jackson as well, or a safety/ cornerback big time prospect. Is this guy projected as a guard or center or tackle? Could he start at guard?

According to this list, all the wide receivers are practically off the board. I would go with Bryant or Matthews at 59 because this position is deep, and Luck should have more weapons in the passing game. Second choice would be Terrence Brooks from FSU.
3 months, 3 weeks ago on Conversation @ http://coltsauthority.com/uncategorized/ca-mock-draft-second-round-begins.html
Grigson for some of the mistakes he has made in free agency does think outside the box, which is what a good GM must do.

Figure the 4th seed, I don't believe the colts will win at Cinncinnati, but I hope I am wrong 100%. The strategy would be to go two minute huddle the whole game, thinking you are going to pass on every down, which opens up the field for Trent and Brown. This is what I would do, PEP, he is other ideas.
8 months, 2 weeks ago on Who to Root For: Week 14
There have been rumblings that PEP might be one and done in Indy after this year. He has had problems adjusting to the schemes and terminology at this level. He is feeling the pressure to succeed as a OC even with Luck, and the same offense at Stanford. I would like to see Rodgers in the game more, along with Rainey in the backfield like Sproles.Kudos to the defense yesterday, they rose up especially the secondary, all were on point and defended their matchups. What happened to Walker on the Titans?
8 months, 3 weeks ago on Colts come up with the Win 22-14 over Tennessee
You got this down to a science. He has look good and bad on certain transactions. I wish he had spent the money on sure things like Vasquez or Levitre. I would have liked Wallace cause look what happened to Wayne. Walden has played decent, but the money could have been spent better. Toler and DHB are big time busts, and Landry is an injury waiting to happen a la Bob Sanders.

It was bush-league alright! However, he plays real well against the run, but he has no clue when dropping back in coverage. Marcus, How many wins do you give this colts' team? If they split the last six, they go 10-6. These last three road games are real tough. The Baltimore loss was good, get them out of the way, and root for Carolina to take out Pats tonite.
9 months, 1 week ago on NFL Issues Erik Walden a One-Game Suspension, Walden Plans to Appeal
What up with that? Redding giving a pep talk to the team at the start of the second -half down 28-0? I never saw Davis play that bad, Austin schooled him and the whole secondary. I don't blame Trent, he has no line in front of him to open up holes for him to go through. You will have to experiment with that line, and find a combination that works, even if you have to sit Satele, McGlynn, and Thornton. Hilton cost the colts a touchdown falling down, when nobody touched him. They have three days to figure it out for the next game. How puzzled did Pagano and PEP look today?
9 months, 2 weeks ago on Colts Fall Hard Against St Louis 38-8
Pep better come up with a blocking scheme for Quinn and Long, or it will be a long day for Luck. Draw plays and screens out of the backfield to Trent might offset the Ram's pass rush. Let's see if the colts can get a lead and maintain it in the fourth quarter with the running game and play-action.

The bottom line is that Andrew the Great is not about stats, he is about victories. He has a lot of Roesthisburger in him, and I hope he wins two super bowls just as Ben did. Credit the coaches for making the right adjustments in the second half. The secondary was awful, and Bethea might be washed up.Pep has to get Trent more touches going to the sidelines and East West to get his motor going, along with third down conversions. Brown should keep up what he is doing. Get well wishes to coack Kubiak for a speedy recovery.

Give Griff a shot, and see how he performs in the slot. Hilton and DHB on the outside, and Fleener down the middle to keep the safeties honest. I thought Rodgers was also going to get a shot to see what he brings to the table.
9 months, 3 weeks ago on Roster Move: Hello Griff Whalen
I like Griff, let him play the slot, and see what production you get out of him. I think he can make the short catches over the middle, and pick up first downs in short yardage. If you could bring in a dependable tight end as well to help in short yardage. Look for the running backs to catch a lot of balls out of the backfield and screens.
9 months, 4 weeks ago on Roster Move: Hello Griff Whalen
A few points from my perspective about the game. The offensive line is not good enough for run blocking, no holes created. They are better for pass blocking. Pagano is no riverboat gambler, too conservative. Too many drop balls especially from Fleener who might be playing himself off this team next year. Allen is definitely missed. Hamilton has to let luck do more no huddle offense, it allows him to get into a rhythm. Finally, where the hell was Kavel Connor all game?

I couldn't agree more with you Kyle. He has come well prepared to succeed in the NFL because Stanford with Pep played a pro style offense (West Coast), If I am not mistaken.

Leave it to Grigs to not rest on his laurels. He wants the 52 and 53rd man on this team to be quality football players, contribute in a winning way somehow, and provide essential depth to an injury-plagued team.

I would have liked to keep Guy, and done away with Reed. I personally think Guy is better than Maola. Guy was picked up by the Chargers! They should bring back Deji Karim who was explosive in the open field running.
10 months, 2 weeks ago on Colts Activate WR LaVon Brazill, Waive Defensive End Lawrence Guy
The colts are not asking him to be the savior. He will share the carries with Bradshaw and maybe Brown. On goalline and short yardage, you give the ball to Richardson or Bradshaw, and both can catch the ball out of the backfield. I thought this trade was a steal for Indy, the pick might not be lower than a 22nd pick or higher, let's hope so. The bottom line you can not be one-dimensionalbecause it makes defenses easy to prepare for you. The ground and pound attack will keep Luck on his feet, and will set up the play-action passes. Let's see 30 points a game out of this offense.
11 months, 1 week ago on The Trent Richardson Trade: A Closer Look
Your guest on your radio show yesterday stressed this point about the officiating, effecting the integrity of the game. I thought the secondary played shaky again including Toler. They have to let Luck use his natural ability to make plays when they have a chance to extend the lead. I thought Pagano was outcoached two games in a row, with his conservative style starting the second half.
11 months, 1 week ago on Monday Morning Moaner: Colts vs Dolphins
I agree with you Greg. They are not utilizing their talent enough in the offense. Luck is a playmaker alone, let him open up the guns in a no huddle especially when you are up 14-0. However, Arians offense made Luck look down the field more for big plays. In today's game, you look to pass in order to set up the run, not the other way around. It will make the run game more effective, because teams won't know what to expect.
11 months, 2 weeks ago on Monday Morning Moaner: Colts vs Raiders
As I am writing this comment, the colts have picked up Cam Johnson from the 49ers for a seventh round pick. I still say they have to look on the waiver wire for offensive line depth, which will be a weakness of this team unless it is addressed. I was impressed with Howell and Rayford myself. I think the colts should cut Sheppard, he has done nothing in the preseason.
11 months, 3 weeks ago on Final Thoughts on the Colts' 53-man roster
Is there another receiver coming on the horizon? I think that Williams will land on the PS. Grigs has to go out and find another running back, offensive linemen, and a KR-PR, special teams guy.

Leave it to Grigs to always look to improve the roster, even on special teams. Both teams considered these players expendable, and they would be useful to the other organization.

I have to agree with a lot of points you made in this article. y the way, I enjoy your work and writing, and I here you are from NYC like myself, and a long time colts fan like myself. I do not know how you pass up a guy like Rhodes who fell to you at the 24th pick. Patterson was also available with that pick. Some of these picks were not based on BPA, but to fill needs along the offensive and defensive lines. I hope some of these UDFA will pan out, and contribute towards the team's success.
1 year, 3 months ago on Final Draft Summary: Colts Focus on Trenches, Forgo Addressing Skill Positions
Could Sheldon Price be a keeper to replace Vaughn or Gordy? I see they picked up a wide receiver from Stanford, it may be possible that he knows Pep's playbook already, and he may pick up a roster spot.
1 year, 3 months ago on Colts Updated UDFA List
I like the pick of Werner at 24 because Grigson is choosing guys that will fit Pagano's system on defense. Even though, Rhodes and Patterson which were appealing picks at this spot were available, he chose a Paul Krueger type player just like in the Raven's system of defense. My pick would have been Rhodes because he is a shut-down corner back. I was surprised he was still there at 24, but the Vikes took him with the next pick.
1 year, 3 months ago on Colts Select Bjoern Werner with the 24th Pickin the Draft
If Thomas is there in the 4th round, then I would choose him immediately. A Stanford product, high football I.Q. would learn the system quickly. He brings a lot of energy, and he is smart enough not to be out of position on making plays, and may well be a ball hawk. Maybe, you can draft both of these guys in the 3rd and 4th round.
1 year, 4 months ago on Colts Draft Targets - Trevardo Williams vs Chase Thomas
If Allen is available at pick 24, you grab him immediately. The colts have to look for tall receivers in this draft for the future. Teams are drafting big corners, as well in this draft. Is there a chance Patterson would be on the board at that pick?
1 year, 5 months ago on Colts Draft Targets: Keenan Allen vs DeAndre Hopkins
I am happy the colts are spending the money. This is the time of year when you add to your core with free agents. People forget cheap scate Polian who did not spend money in free agency. This took away the enjoyment from the fans who had nothing to look forward to before the draft. Now, the draft takes on an even greater excitement because Grigs is not done yet building this team to compete for a super bowl title. What are you going to do with the money ,if you don't spend it?All these moves are going to create competition on the field, and make practices more demanding. These guys want to show what the bring to the table.
1 year, 5 months ago on Colts Sign Free Agent DT Ricky Jean Francois
I like the deal for Landry, reminds me of Bob Sanders also an all-pro safety. He will put a hurting on people in the secondary next year. The secondary is now a strong point on the defense, and if Francois comes to terms the D-line gets stronger too. I still would have paid Avril 2/15, which he got from the Hawks. The draft just got easier, now you can look for BPA at G, FB, WR, OLB, good job Ryan!
1 year, 5 months ago on Colts Sign Pro Bowl Free Agent Safety LaRon Landry to 4-year Deal
Vasquez deal was a bargain compared to walden's. He should have gotten the money. Even Brad Moore on the Jets would have been a viable alternative. If Grigson can pick up Landry from the Jets, and Jean-Francois from the 49ers, it still would be a great free agency period for this organization.
1 year, 5 months ago on Patience and Restraint Mark Opening of Free Agency for Colts
Grigson must have thought 8 million dollars for interior lineman was out of the question. I guess he is looking for quantity not quality. I could be wrong, but Levitre and Vasquez were the exceptions. I do not like the fact that Levitre came into our division with the titans. Brad Moore, Shonn Greene, Cason, maybe a big splash on Avril are still out there.
1 year, 5 months ago on Colts Authority Radio's Live Free Agency Coverage
Lets just sign them both! They could easily adopt to a new system especially Levitre with his tremendous athletic ability.Satele will have to step up his game next year to justify the salary, he is getting from the colts.
1 year, 5 months ago on Andy Levitre or Louis Vasquez: What's the Difference?
I agree with you Kyle that Levitre is the sure thing, that is where the big money should go. I would not overpay for Kruger because he is one-dimensional, and he is getting paid on a small body of work three playoff games and a super bowl.I think if you can spread the wealth around and create depth and competition on offense and defense, this would be a wiser investment.
1 year, 5 months ago on Some Perspective on Free Agency
I like Cary Williams, big athletic corner. Let me emphasize "big" at cb because all the receivers in the league now are over 6'3'. Revis is still an option I hope they will consider. I still like Wallace a game changer, big play receiver. It is a no-brainer on the offensive line take Levitre who is worth the money or Vasquez who has ties to Raye in the front office.Do not spend the money on stop-gap players? You can also draft cbs in the draft along with ss, there are a lot of good ones in this draft.
1 year, 5 months ago on Free Agency Developments
What would it cost the colts for him? I still prefer Mike Wallace. If you put him on that turf, in an indoor stadium with his speed, once he catches it, he is gone to the races. Dwayne Bowe would be my second choice.
1 year, 6 months ago on Should the Colts Trade for Percy Harvin?
Grigson might be looking to shore up the linebacker position vacated by Freeney. I do not believe Hughes will be the next man up at that position. The colts could also use a shut down corner which is imperative in a three-four defense. I like to make a point about Caldwell. He goes to the Ravens , and he starts to open up the offense which helps them win a super bowl. In the super bowl against the Saints, he was totally conservative before half time, and Manning could not get the two minute drill going to get points before the half. Go figure! Do you want to blame Tom Moore? It has been three years, and that game still gets under my skin.

We lost a great football mind in the front office, even with the Polians screwing up the team. I'm surprised Telesco did't get the colts job last year, but Ryan did a magnificent job as well. Well, it was a great run while it lasted. This will go down as one of the most enjoyable and entertaining teams colts' fans have ever watched. The way the pulled out games all season, and played the Ravens pretty close in the first half. Andrew the Great is an incredible story, athlete, and leader of this team. He should be the ROY, hands down! I do not think it will be long before Luck is playing in his first super bowl. Now it is time for Mr. Grigson to go to work and improve this team, so we can win our division again a, and get a home playoff game in 2014.

The colts' are 2-0 against the ravens in the playoffs including a playoff win in 2007. How would it look like to come into there place again and beat them for a third time. This is not about rewards points. It is about wins and losses. Time of possession, yardage and statistics sometimes do not matter. Who said "you play to win the game." It is about putting the team in a position to win and succeed. Take advantage of your opportunities and execute them. Who knows where this team can go? Lets ride the wave on chuckstrong and Luck. Maybe we are on a mission! I do not like the idea of resting players. This is not the Polian era. These are young players, and they need their reps and routines.

I was looking at the draft boards. The experts like a guy for the offensive line named D.J. Fluker out of Alabama. Also, I liked what Luck said about his interceptions, "I have quarterback amnesia, I don't worry about the statistics, I go out and just play football." Since, he does not recollect on his mistakes, he goes out and tries to execute the next play with a clear mind, hopefully a touchdown.
