Re the last line: Even with Google trying cool stuff, I just can't see how they'll be able to try enough things to actually hurt the next generation of innovators. I mean really, if Google wants to pay me a fat salary to build my dream and I have 0 risk, I'd be willing to go try it at Google... but that just isn't reasonable. I'm doubtful a competent Google means a bad thing for startups.

How bout a follow up article- Are you part of the problem, or part of the solution? A way to tell if you're a douchebag who's ruining silicon valley.

I think the right question to ask would be "Do you want to make money with this, or is it just cool?" Art is totally a worthwhile endevor... and technology for art's sake is worth doing and fun to watch. However, if someone wants to turn it into a business, the biz model thing should be an early question for most entrepreneurs. I'd note that all of the most successful YC companies all started with legit biz models. (Airbnb, Dropbox, Heroku)

We've been using Xero for a few months, and I've got to say it's complex enough to get most tasks done, and simple enough to use daily. Bravo Xero.

Love this post.
You know what I like about you, Farhad? You write about things you believe in / actually know. You're not writing incendiary things just to be incendiary. You're writing something insightful that people can actually identify with.

This has really made me think about why VC exists, and how it probably should exist.
The few controlling the many is a paradigm that's breaking down in all sorts of businesses right now thanks to the internet / technology. Why shouldn't venture be the same way? It seems insane to me that somehow they'd manage to get around all that progress.
I think crowd funding is kind of lame as a concept, but maybe angel investing is the thing to do it. Angels self select each other based on people who are mutually respected, and form the super-super angel... ie a big syndicate of angel investors as the new style of VC.
Maybe that's why we're seeing those party rounds in YC companies.

Dude you forgot to mention that you've cartwheeled in front of most A-List VCs in your "who the eff am I?" box.

Just putting this out there... they're probably following ESPN's early playbook. Don't be surprised if Billiards doesn't show up soon.

Yo dude. Love the concept, but it's too hard to read. Any way to make it larger and / or make it so the headlines are fully visible?
