AV might be very "hands-off" in the locker room, but I don't think he gets enough credit for the job he and his staff have done in preparing this team for where they are now.  I think he's figured out what each player has to offer and utilized them productively.  If an offensive player wasn't scoring, he got them to contribute more defense.  He certainly has gotten the defensemen more involved offensively.  It's also apparent that so far he has outcoached the opposition coaches, getting the team to where he can roll four lines consistently and effectively, scouting the opposition and sending out the right match-ups, and letting his experienced players run the locker room.

Don't want to beat a dead horse but watching in slo-mo you see three things: Emellin's stick bending quite a bit around Kreider's leg, Kreider's foot going off balance -- almost like catching a small rut, and ice spray from his left skate as he attempted to slow down just before the collision.  It should really have been a tripping penalty.

@TheKing: I seem to remember two Ranger goalies winning the Vezina trophy together a few years back.  Wasn't such a problem then...

@tygalpin He'll be bigger. He doesn't rehearse with opponents.

I don't think it's necessarily the money Hank is looking for.  I think he wants the Cup and he may be willing to wait until free agency to make a decision.  If the team falters again for lack of offense, they'll be looking to spend megabucks for a scorer, leaving less money and hope for Hank.

I'm thinking either Torts wants to see if the benching woke him up, or he's being showcased for a trade.

I always liked Zucs and felt that, over time, he could have been our St. Louis, but I'm not sure he would have been able to do that in Tortorella's system.  That being said, I still think he would be a positive on this team.

I agree with ChrisP.  But then, I'm also on medication...

Seriously, having watched the Rangers since 1971, I have witnessed a couple of generations worth of fan craziness (as well as Ranger management craziness), and what I've learned is you can NEVER, EVER be sure of what is going to happen.  The seven points Adam makes can easily be doubled in ANY given year.  I do, however, agree wholeheartedly with his last three sentences.

That being said, there's no doubt that this year's team is the closest in spirit, the fastest in years, the biggest in a very long time, and the best-coached in decades.  Let's go, Rangers!

I agree he should get a chance in camp but I think he's much more valuable on the ice and in the locker room in Hartford than being a 6th/7th in NY.

I remember when Gilles Gratton had his tiger mask back when artwork on your mask meant you were flaky. Progress, I guess...

I agree, no need for D, at this point. Giving up only 4 goals in 3 games playing 5 on 5 proves that. More offense? Yeah, sure, but we know the roster as it is is quite capable of putting up numbers. What's killed them so far is the penalties and the lack of PP offense. So what they're lacking so far is more about focus than ability.

Listen, it's only 3 games in. Not fun to watch but certainly not the end of the world. Let 'em play on! We can talk again after the western swing...

With the kids in the system, it was likely that Sean would be gone next year anyway. But to keep Christensen instead of Avery??? Tortorella never cared for Sean (let's not forget his remarks after Avery was suspended by the Stars) and probably never had plans to use him this season. Sather liked him, but cap room is cap room, especially with a need on D.

Personally, I'd like to see him tear up the AHL and force a callback. He belongs in the NHL for at least a couple more years...

It's obvious -- Hagelin, Erixon and Bourque. They played NHL level hockey, for sure! How about that Hagelin rush?!? Erixon played so much like his father! Quiet, but focused, accurate, and smart with the puck! That kid is going to be a joy to watch for many years! And Bourque? All over the ice! You can see he's a real team player. Yakking to his teammates on and off the ice. Very mature, great hockey sense, and relaxed and natural in front of the camera! Ryan Callahan is the right model for this kid because he sure looks like a Captain in the making!

AS far as I'm concerned, making the playoffs was a bonus. Watching the kids grow up was a real treat and gives me great hope for the future. There are obvious holes to be filled but the majority of the team is looking pretty damn solid, especially on defense. Can't wait till next year!

Did you notice McIlrath rubbing O'Neill's head at the end of the fight, as if saying, "nice job, dude!." No animosity, just dutiful fisticuffs to him, I guess...
