Pitchers used to go from pen to starting games back to the pen all. the. time.

This Joba/Hughes stuff is the epitome of small sample size.

That said, not letting Bard pitch the ninth is beyond stupid.

No.

The problem with keeping Tim Wakefield for depth, is that when you need him...it's Tim Wakefield pitching. Along with John Lackey, when you count the numerous unearned runs..they were literally the worst pitchers in the AL last year.

With all due respect...I thought the point of going to a baseball game was to have fun. So if people are singing 'Sweet Caroline' even though their team is losing...arn't they having fun? No one makes you pay attention to them. No one makes me take my hat off during GBA.

From the 'i'm secretly a hypocrite dept.': I do hate when jackasses wave at the camera and grin and yuk it up when they catch an opposing team's HR ball.

Good ol Boston...Rivera will go out on a white horse being paid what he deserves. Papi, who should be a greater hero to Boston, will be lowballed and should that happen, I hope he shows up in pinstripes next year and says "You entitled, spoiled MFers didn't want me....oh and Jaba, he say fuck you."

Yeah, I said it.

@VJ in Stuttgart No a thousand times to Wake. Count his billion unearned runs and he's right up there with Lackey as the worst pitcher in the league. Keeping him around means he has to be used when a pitcher goes down and I'd rather that pitcher at least actually be replacement level.

@English Sox Fan I haven't changed teams, I just dumped them. I don't know if you follow other American sports, but i also dumped the Canucks and the Raiders a while back for various reasons. Now I don't really follow hockey or gridiron.

What's lost in all this stink is we may have seen the last AB of Big Papi. Big Papi! There should be a giant gold statue of him in CF, but instead all I hear is..."enh, maybe we can lowball him, and if not...enh.."Geek reference: The Red Sox are like the Genesis Project in Star Trek, constructed with explosive short-cut materials, and now the whole thing has blown up. Well, the Bad Olde Days should be entertaining at least.

I don't know if that's accurate. The team has definitly entered "Dumpable Zone". *I* wouldn't and never would unless they Built a new park, traded Pedey and changed team colors...but they are very fan-suspendable, and can see how some would dump them.I dumped Newcastle for their treatment of Sir Bobby, the entitled fanbase, and the constant buying of ex-Leeds thugs....and laughed and laughed at their misfortunes.

Mr. Ellsbury would like me to relate the following statement,

"Dear Red and Denton...or is it Denton and Red? I can never figure that out. Thank you for your kind words of support. I'm a big fan of SG and come here every day

....It is at this point I should remind you of your 'Soft" and "Gutless" comments from last year and also remind you that said comments are going to cost Red Sox Nation at least 21 Million a year.

Again, thank you for your kind words. Yours always. Jacoby Ellsbury."

Funny as always, but given Cashman's candid Costanza act this season, I'd eventually like to see a Headwarmer-Cashman dialogue where he puts the headwarmer in it's place.

@BB.13 *I* was never never ready to anoint Bard. I DID pile on Paps for being genuinely bad last year, but people have been riding his jock since 2008. And I've been defending him.

I did get pretty mad over his pitch selection at the end of 2009.

I've had back spasms. It took about 90 seconds to walk across a street. And Drew's finger is broken with the ligament torn off the bone. Youk is looking like Mike Lowell, so it's probably better to sit him and let Lowrie play.

But there's no reason to rip you. I rip Tito for getting Papelbon into 7 innings in the last 25 games. I blame Tito and Theo for a billion things that are all starting to add up.

@Nikki in Denver Actually Sutcliffe (who needed to STFU all game) lobbed Boone some 2003 softball and Boone wouldn't bite.

Sutcliffe: Both teams (Yanks and Red Sox) want to win the division. Neither wants to open on the road in Texas or LA. And you know the Red Sox don't want to be in New York for game 7! hehhMMMMMMMM!!!?......

Boone: Uhmmm...actually they did pretty well in 2004.

Apparently all Ellsbury needed to *really* take off was that apology.

Frankly I'm going to be sad if Bautista doesn't win MVP. The Ells-Pedroia-AGon 'groupthink' saddens me cause they're really not even close to Joey Bats. His slugging and his OBP are both about 40 points higher than the closest player. And if you use the it's not "Best player" it's MVP...then the fact that we're even talking about three Red Sox MVP's belies that.

No offense, really.
