Nomos Lambda deep blue in steel for $6-8,000 so still more than a Zurich would be great.

At $20k you are in serious territory from huge premium brands.

Love the look, but the competition is too tough for the choice to be Nomos in this price bracket.

When I first opened the page and read the article for some reason the pictures didn't come up, now I realize my computer was trying to save my eyes from the horror.

I also don't think watchmaker F.P. Journe will be particularly happy with Hoptoff borrowing his brand slogan "Invenit Et Fecit" (invented and made) which is on the dial......nicely understated!

That's what I get for just looking at the pictures and not reading all the words, I assumed from the appearance they were ladies watches too. The date/power reserve in a 34mm case would suit my wife nicely

Good looking watch, nice use of red text and date wheel, as someone who wears watch on the right I would prefer the pushers and crown on the right side as usual as that way they are on the non-wrist side for me. Hope they do a mirror image version.

I'm confused is this 2 different watches, one has a small marker at 6 o'clock and one shot has the awful cut off 6 that looks like an upside down a.

So the 42mm with no room for the aborted bit of the number 6 looks better, and the 48mm fills the extra space with one of the most annoying features .

At least the 48 has more of the 10 and 2.

First Impression was I hated it.

Then I looked at details and the whole steampunk aesthetic and the piece grew on me.

Then I saw the price, honestly they are having a laugh.

No history of watch making, polarizing design and a soprod movement for $8 - 9,000

Good luck selling that even if only 399 have to find a home worldwide !

I'm guessing they will sit in a display of pens in a store for a while then quietly be put in the back room to gather dust

Cool scorpion on the movement!

I do find it annoying when searching for information on a particular brand and watch that without trying I am presented with web sites for fakes and copies. Just cant get away from the fake stuff being pushed at you, watches and hand bags are the most obvious but if you look you can find a fake anything online.

As one of your international readers in a country with no Zenith boutiques I would like to remind Zenith that I have a passport and know how to use it. I believe even a few Americans have passports too !

As far as this watch is concerned it is beautiful but the partially cut off 6 really spoils it for me. I know what comes between 5 and 7, a shortened cut off baton marker does not bother me but a cut off numeral puts me off.

The way the sub dials overlap the numbers and look screwed on make it look like an after thought.  Is the 9 o'clock sub dial supposed to be rotated or is that a QC problem? Either way it bugs me !

When you see a vintage watch that has aged (non-radium) luminant , what is the process that causes the luminant to age?

Is it a natural degradation of the product or is it oxidization or UV exposure, heat ?

For example I live in a hot sunny country with little air pollution and often high UV , does this mean the luminant on my watches will age faster than a watch in a cooler less sunny environment.

So the hour markers and hands are white gold because it is corrosion resistant.

Exactly how much corrosion is going to take place sealed inside a watch with 300m water resistance?

Looks really cheap for a 20k watch,

Very nice, I was tempted by the red coloured one last year but this orange accent is appealing. The internal bezel adds a point of difference from the more common external bezel. Looks more clinical which is great for me.

"Someone looking for a very affordable skeletonized automatic, and perhaps still drives a 1970s American non-muscle car."    Made me laugh!

I don't know if it was this brand but I remember my dad wearing a gold watch on a gold expandable bracelet in the 70's/80's I'm sure it was quartz, I'll have to see if he still has it so I can wear it if my disco pants come back into fashion.

Nice looking has a certain sparkle in the photos that is not evident on the company web site photos.

Ref the comment from kapurkk I could not disagree more about Rolex, to me that is the lazy unimaginative choice, the "posh " choice for someone not really interested in watches.

I have an ultrasonic bath at work but last time I used it to clean a watch for my wife the watch stopped. I took it to a local jeweler who said the watch had become magnetized . He "demagnetized the watch and it has worked fine since.

Could this be because the bath it commercial grade (dental office) or should I place the watch in a non-metallic cup? Or is this just because it is a quartz Tag?

Like you I am at the stage of having purchased my first "proper " watch. A Breitling Superocean Heritage. I still find myself drawn to dive style and have been looking on line (repeatedly) at a UTS 1000M v2 (more tool like diver). Further into the future I have my eye on a JLC reverso, then in distant future a Patek.

Personally I dislike Rolex , I have looked a Panerai models, how did you pick that one as your first?

I live on a small Caribbean island and we spend a lot of time in and around the water. I have worn my Breitling in the ocean and pool. I normally however change watch when we head to the beach to my Swiss Army, not because of the water but I am more concerned about fine sand getting into the bracelet . My next purchase is likely to be a dive watch in the $1000 range that I will wear when out playing and keep the Breitling for the office.

There are a lot of dive instructors here, all wear really beaten up watches that look like they have had a lot of abuse, not a high end diver in sight.

Also why do you see dive watches on leather straps? That looks like you have given up even pretending you get your watch wet and ruins the whole tool aesthetic for me.

Nice looking watch, bold designs and I especially like the black bezel. As far as new brands vs old, a new brand can experiment more while a more established will often feel the need to stay true to much loved designs. Probably why Rolex has Tudor, it can be more adventurous without diluting or harming the classic Rolex brand value.

The Pontos was one of the options on my shopping list last year but decided against it because of the location of the date window at 6 o'clock within the sub dial. In the flesh on the previous model I found this very difficult to read.

Unless this case material is super special the price seems high to me.

Are there other implications for increased water resistance other than diving? I see little point in having significant water resistance in any watch on a leather strap, unless you plan to swap to a rubber strap or bracelet the watch is not going to be anywhere near water.

In my first job the boss always wore a Rolex, then came the day it stopped and he sent the secretary to the jewelers to change the battery! She came back very red faced and said the jeweler refused to do anything with fake watches. The boss immediatly went out and replaced his fake Rolex with exactly the same model only real this time. The main problem is now he was wearing the real thing and everyone still looked at it and thought fake.

Now everytime I see someone wearing a Rolex my first thought is not "thats a nice watch" but unfortunately my only thought is  "is that a fake" . Personally having recently invested in a watch in the $5000 range I did not even look at Rolex as an option as in my mind it has such a high association with fakes and copies.

Probably my loss but hard to get past the feeling when you are spending your hard earned cash.
