Interesting to see the concept for the perforations lifted from the Air Jordan 7 with the varying size and irregular layout. PR7 inspired by AJ7.

Didn't they all have that on the tongue in 2001?

So annoying that they put Nike Air on the tongue for these but not the White/Red/Black last month. Why do they have to jerk people around like that. We wait SOOOO long for them to do the original 1s and then they just tease. I guess they want us to re-buy them i a year or two with the correct tongue. Seriously, they need to wake up.

Forgotten model indeed. What most people forget is that this was shoe released in the same seasons as the Air 180 and was actually the official 1991 Air Max model, i.e. Air Max 91. The magazine ads for this shoe were shown on two pages, usually side by side. On the left side an infrared Air Max 90 was placed above the words "Air Max". On the right was a Black/Persian Violet Air Max 91 above the words "Air Even More Max".

The black and purple color was quite controversial where I came, from but the shoe was very popular. It was kept in production for years but they began selling it as the Classic BW in order to differentiate it from the current Air Max models of the following years, e.g. Air Max 93, 94, 95, the two 96 models, and Air Max 97.

The Air Max 180 was actually just called the Air 180 back in 1991 when it was released. During the lead up to the 2006 release of the Air Max 360, Nike developed the history of air campaign, with lots of advertising, posters, etc. They re-issued lots of old Air Maxes in original colorways. The campaign focused on the history of the development of the Air Max units though so several Air Max models were overlooked as they re-used air units from previous models. The Air Max 91 had a slightly larger air unit than the Air Max 90 but the Air 180 was slightly larger again so that was shown as the 4th evolution of the Max Air technology. The shoe name was retconned into the Air Max line and (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Retroactive_continuity) and the name changed to Air Max 180.

They also ignored the Air Max 94 which used the same 5th gen air unit as the Air Max 93. This model is largely forgotten, though it is almost the same as the Air Max Burst retro that was popular around 2000.

The two Air Max 96 models basically used the same air units as the Air Max 95 so were also ignored in the campaign. They are generally held as the ugly ducklings of the Air Max line, along with the tubular air model released around 2000.

The Air Max 97 model was the next evolution presented as part of the series. The tubular air was a bit of a flop so was ignored.

It's a shame that Nike don't really recognize this shoe with it's original name anymore. Hope you enjoyed this history and enjoy the new Air Max 91 retros. :)

Why do people continue to call the Black/White 12s the playoff 12s? They are not THE playoff 12s, they are ONE OF the TWO playoff 12s.

The Black/White 12s were for HOME playoff games to match the white unis. The Black/Red 12s were for ROAD playoff games only to match the red unis.

So the Black/Red 12s are playoff 12s every bit as much as the Black/White 12s are.

Definitely not a nice move to charge $200 for these. There is no need for it from a production cost issue, it's purely a money grab. it's pretty disgusting really. We are the ones that have handed over the cash for their empire. We've wanted this for years while continuing to support the brand out of love. The price of the recent Air Jordan 1 OG color was great in that regard, which only goes to further highlight how terrible this price is.

Looks nice, although the white tongue tag is not OG style right? Should be red fabric with white markings. But these would look great with one of these T-shirts: http://t.co/gLRDJmmA Find them here: http://www.redbubble.com/people/9thdesignrgmt/works/8385607-3d-8-bit-air-jordan-1

Terrible looking shoe. one big thing I don't get about Nike these days is that they put out a bunch of stuff that looks like the crap other companies were making back in the day - when they were trying to ape Nike. So ironically Nike just ape themselves poorly now. Jordan Brand is very guilty of this too.

@BackWearinthe45 Yeah. My uppers look really good but the red paint on my midsoles is totally flaking off. Have Jordan Brand gotten any better at painting in the last few years? :\

@custom That's why we loved the black nubuck ones back in the day and didn't like the white ones. White leather creased but you could wear the black nubuck for a year and they still looked fresh.

The photos are out of order. The Air Jordan 23 should be before the Air Jordan 2009. I swear, every time there is a collection like this, either one shoe does not get photographed or the order is messed up.

I'm sure a lot of people would love these. I'm not a fan of the black leather though. It's everything the original designs for the AJ 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 were not. Those durabuck classics ate up light, making them look so stealthy.

The neon looks a little de-saturated. Could just be the photos. Still, looks hot. Always glad to see these come back! :D

Love that yellow. These would go great with this: http://www.redbubble.com/people/9thdesignrgmt/works/9676836-arrows-1-yellow-grey-white Despite how it looks on that site the yellow in the design is pretty much exactly what is on that shoe.
