What? So it's Hank's fault that AV is starting him for both games? Frankly, after carrying the load for the past 7 years, he absolutely deserves it. What professional player in their right mind would GIVE UP an opportunity to start any game??

@mando24179 You're absolutely entitled to your own opinion. But you're not watching the same games that I am. Girardi may be slow and he may be struggling this year (although he's played better recently) but to say he has no heart either makes you an idiot or desperate for someone to fit the role in your shitty analogy. The dude plays his heart out every night. He's been much more mistake-prone this year, no doubt. But he plays his balls off and his heart out every night. Stop stretching to try to make the joke work.

This is something we, as fans of a NYC sports team, will have to deal with for as long as James Dolan is the owner of this franchise: the glitz and glamour will always beat out the smart, logical choice. Dolan is a twit, and he doesn't know anything about hockey. And that CAN work as an owner, if you admit that hockey is not your strong suit and you hire a qualified staff under you. However, Dolan thinks he knows about hockey. To come out and call Glen Sather "one of the best, if not the best" in the business is one of the craziest things I have ever heard. Glen has a knack for making some spectacular trades, that's for sure. But the facts are facts, and the fact is we haven't won anything under Glen. The anti-Sather attitude has calmed because we're playing well, but he should not be let off the hook for how brutal he's been the past 14 years. Only ONCE during his tenure have we made it past the second round of the playoffs. ONE time in 14 years. That is not success. But still, Dolan has his back. And I find it very hard to believe that Glen will step down on his own any time soon. And when he does, I have zero faith in Dolan to make a smart decision, i.e. Clark or Gorton. I fully expect a marketing move like Gretz.

On whether Vigneault told him personally he’s still the No. 1 goalie:

“Yup. This game is not what about you did last year or last eight years or last month. It’s about now. And right now this is probably, or is the best decision for the team. I stand behind that. I just have to see it as a challenge for me to really reach my top level. I’m not satisfied with being OK. Yeah I played a solid game. I want to be great and if I’m not, I’m not satisfied. I just need to push myself even hard.”

Don't think it's a full blown "goalie controversy" yet. But things could get tricky. If Cam shuts down Winnipeg tonight, does he get the start against the Sabres on Thursday? I mean, following AV's logic of playing the hot hand, how could he not? Will be an interesting to see how this plays out.

@Kevin DeLury @boogiepicker What I'm saying is I don't think we're going to see a complete re-haul of the system. For now, if we have to be more conservative in certain aspects of our game, like placing an electric dog fence at the blue line and having DZ wear a collar to keep him from pinching, then I'm okay with that, until we start scoring. I feel like this is more of an argument about semantics than anything. I can't see AV trying to have this team adapt to a new style again. In my opinion, I think he was talking about making small adjustments rather than huge, wholesale changes. But I guess we'll have to wait and see.

@Kevin DeLury @boogiepicker "Maybe we’ve got to play even tighter to the vest than we are and go into games with that mentality of (trying to win) 2-1.”

This sounds like someone wrapping up an answer to a media response, not someone who's thinking of going and overhauling his entire system. You can't take that quote and extrapolate it to mean he's upending all the work he has done. I don't equate "playing tighter to the vest" to automatically mean 'abandon the transition game, keep the defensemen from pinching, grind, grind grind etc.' I just don't think one small line in an interview question can be broadened to a complete overhaul in the system.

@MiddleSwine Don't forget Jim Ramsey. Guy's been around forever, bringing everyone down in the locker room. Or Sam, he hasn't had success since '94. Then there's that Dolan guy. Oh and that Sather guy who may have something to do with it. But yeah no you're right, the Vezina winning goalie who's won 30 games every single year of his career (except the lockout) is probably definitely to blame. Because of the mindset of the players in front of him, who are obviously all really concerned about what Hank thinks about them.

So let's see. Torts gets his ass chewed off for not adapting to the Nash / Brassard, etc. acquisitions, aka more skilled players over the grinding line-up we used to have. One of the biggest complaints about Torts here on this blog was how he never adapted. Well, AV is trying to implement his system. But he sees the limitations. And now, I don't know, maybe he's......adapting? What's amazing is how a quote that is SO inconsequential, that in reality was nothing but a sound byte, has turned into this. And Kevin, man, you're a great writer. But what is this crap? I don't know if you're trying to bring in more juiceheads to the blog or what but you're stirring crap up like crazy. This is nonsense. This doesn't mean AV is going to completely re-haul his system. He's ADAPTING to what he has to work with / how his players are currently playing, something everyone seemed to lambaste Torts for being unable to do.

Got the fights wrong. Carter broke Dubie's nose. Then Carter and Bickel fought as part of the line brawl with Prust and Rupp vs the Devs. Bicke actually bloodied Carter up. But he's definitely not an NHL player. I can't believe this is even a discussion.

Opinions on Brooksie aside (he's swine), this is his opinion and nothing more. Granted he's a bit more plugged in than we are but I doubt AV has tipped his hand about line combinations. Nash obviously is and should be a top 6 forward. But maybe for the first game or two, slot him in with Brass and Pouliot/Miller/etc. etc., whoever is gonna be there. Give him a game or two to get back on his feet, maybe help spark Brass a little bit too. And then go from there. I agree with Kev, I think I would rather see Hags moved than Zucc. To me that Run DMC line should be untouchable for a while. And I know putting Nasher on what would be our "third line" seems insane, but 1) he has missed a month 2) we're playing well right now.

@James Attard Sorry bud, entitled to your own opinions of course, but that's garbage. NY did not make him what he is now. He made himself what he is now. This is the same old argument that fans love to use when it comes to re-signing players. How can a player betray loyalty and not take a pay cut when his contract expires? And when a great player deteriorates with age, as Hank will, we're so fast to forget how quickly GMs, good GMs anyway, would NEVER say hey, let me OVERPAY this fella because he's been so loyal to us. See Brian Leetch. See Derek Jeter. The notion that the NYR made Henrik Lundqvist is garbage. The guy is an all-world goalie, and we were LUCKY to have plucked him up when we did. Someone would have. And he would've won a Vezina anyway. Hell, he may have even won a Cup by now. Do not expect him to resign out of "respect", that notion is nonsense. The guy wants, and deserves, a cup. He'll go where he thinks he has the best chance of winning one.

@johnnyb3910 I totally agree. I LOVE the fact that Kreids stuck up for Step. But that seriously is a crazy, dangerous hit. I don't think Kreids meant for Upshall to fall like that but still. Again, not criticizing him for sticking up for his mates. I love that he did. I don't mind him taking a penalty for it either. What I don't like is the nature of that particular hit.

The charging call, in my opinion, was a good call. He jumped and came off his feet; got some pretty good air, too. He didn't take strides toward the Florida player, and he actually glided in. But he definitely launched himself.

Gotta admit, I hit the panic button pretty hard last night after the loss. Vintage Ranger fan, I know. I've pulled myself back now, and I don't feel as bad about this team as I did 16 hours ago. But the lack of toughness really, really worries me. Maybe I'm nostalgic and I miss the team we had w/ Pruster, Rupp, and Dubie. We were a hell of a lot tougher and pretty much scored the same amount of goals (as last year, not this year.....yet). We're obviously going to play a MUCH different style of hockey than we're used to. It will be more finesse than toughness. And I do believe we will score more with the new system in place. That being said, this is not a physically imposing team and you can bet your balls that teams like Boston and Philly are gonna run us over. We may beat them but they will physically beat the crap out of us with our current roster. I don't know how to fix this situation to be honest but it is something that has me really worried about the season.
