Thanks, Don Pardo, for pointing out the  typo in the date of the  Super Bowl in the photo caption above....  I fixed it.

Funny thing is, you can use all the spellcheckers you want, but they don't proofread for factual typo errors...

Dutch* thoughtfully provided me with a link to Mrs. T-Boner's obituary posted on the Legacy.com site... her name is Lisa and her husband's real name is Troy... I hope I'm not overstepping appropriate boundaries by publishing this, but you can post a message of condolence to Troy and Lisa's family at

Devastating news of Mrs. Boner's passing....

I featured the two posts Boner made today out of respect for his family's loss....

Boner, I'm really sorry. We all feel for you and miss you. We'll keep the porch light on for you.

When you really look at it, none of these players are "overpaid"---  you are a world-class athlete and you have about 10 years max in the prime of your youth to make a mark--- you are bound to be injured (sometimes severely)  several times over the course of your journey---even if you are successful  you will likely be "retired" from your sport by the age of 30.... Your compensation is a small pittance compared to the overwhelming amount of gross dollars revenue your employer is bringing in...It's an honor to be selected to compete in a sport you love, but it's a super-grind to keep in shape year-round well enough to keep up with the competition...and if you're lucky enough to survive the grind, you may retire with a couple of million dollars in the bank and a $70,000-a-year pension when you reach my age....but  more often than not you end up with more accrued expenses than income, a small pension if any, and a lifetime of after-effects from your injuries.

@sunbutts @Tom Jackson I generally come home from day job around 9:00 P.M. EST== then catch up on the Eagles commentary,  watch a Turner Classic Movie (tonight= " The Sand Pebbles" starring Richard Crenna and Steve McQueen), then check my research tabs and try to write the column...  sometimes it flows, sometimes it's a struggle until 4:00 A.M.--- sometimes I bag it and wait until noon the next day. My sleep patterns have morphed into "varmint" phase, as Bri has aptly described it...

(well, when you factor in taxes and agent fees and loan-paybacks and other expenses,  Nate's probably only taking home about $1.8 million...   but I know I could live on that!)

It's funny, you can have great corners but a lousy pass rush... or lousy corners and a great pass rush.... it seems, as Leo seemed to be saying, you need a consistent modulation between both activities--- whereby middle-of-the-road performance in both categories produces results that are greater than the sum of the parts....

@HudsonHawk89 I cry for Bradley Fletcher---   he was playing pretty well until some leg and shoulder injuries accumulated--- and his over-the-top-help safety Nate Allen just never seemed to figure out the timing needed to cover his back end...

@southphillyben A team desperate for a starting QB or a quality backup QB in 2015 just might offer a 2nd for Nick--- you'd probably have to consider that offer if it happened. But since Foles is a free agent after the 2015 season, I think most teams will be content to just let Foles play out his contract with the Eagles---and take another look at him in 2016.

As a 4th year player who is gaining valuable experience with every game played, Foles is still a bargain--- you find a better QB to challenge him? Fine--- but having a healthy Foles on the bench is a luxury few teams could have or afford.

ABE LINC wants YOU to know the story of Einstein's Lost Ticket:---- Einstein was once traveling from Princeton on a train when the conductor came down the aisle, punching the tickets of every passenger. When he came to Einstein, Einstein reached in his vest pocket.  He couldn't find his ticket, so he reached in his trouser pockets. It wasn't there. He looked in his briefcase but couldn't find it... Then he looked in the seat beside him. He still couldn't find it.  "The conductor said, 'Dr. Einstein, I know who you are. We all know who you are. I'm sure you bought a ticket. Don't worry about it.'

Einstein looked at him and said, "Young man, I too, know who I am.  What I don't know is where I'm going.”
