I cannot count how many times I've encountered this pronunciation... Living in Southern California is a special type of hell for transplant sports fans.

@pawsbyandmeowkin I'd rather have an AHLer getting experience on that ice time. That way we can develop some younger players faster rather than having a revolving door 3rd line.

I wish Rutherford would offer Jagr a competitive contract this offseason! I think Consol might implode seeing Jagr back in the new/old 3rd jersey.

@Mr. Confidence @PenGeno @Hibbits I think this is the star that Craig Adams has been getting from Johnston every postgame...

I know someone has probably mentioned it somewhere else... I knew the Penguins power play was lights out, but they're operating at 40% conversion rate with 25 opportunities! The next closest team is the Devils with 28.6% conversion rate with 28 opportunities.
That's insane, here's hoping the Pens can keep the power play clicking at a 40% rate!

@cblack66 I can say that the exact details of the Jagr trade was a colossal fuck up. But trading him had to happen when you look at the circumstances. Then again, how much can you get for a player who has publicly stated that he wants to get the hell outta town and your club is on very weak financial footing?

@PenGeno @Animals Well, missed a ton up until the season opener against the Ducks when he buried the second goal past Gibson.

Rich: Thank you for the player to watch piece on Steve Downie--it made me laugh loud enough for people to shoot strange looks at me. I must say you've done a great job on the new gameday posts.
The Flyers are a bunch of ass-grabbin' jagoffs!

@HYJYNX @Claude Giroux's Arresting Officer @NickiAment SHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!
If Rick was still around, he'd have the hot takes we need for this story. BRING BACK RICK!
@FuuManChuMan Maybe not, I think Johnston's system is going to allow Letang to not have to make bad decisions to try and spring forwards.

@cblack66 Agreed. I can understand the salary cutting move, but couldn't have Patrick pushed for some draft picks too. Jagr is a once in a generation talent. If the Pens hadn't been in financial trouble, Jagr may have been co-owner of the Pittsburgh's most beloved hockey player title.
Granted, Crosby and the 2008 and 2009 Stanley Cup runs may not have happened, but we also wouldn't have had to suffer through the Dark Ages.
I'm getting into TL;DR territory, but, seriously, fuck this trade.
3 months, 3 weeks ago on Conversation @ http://thepensblog.com/
God damnit... When this trade happened I was just getting out of my last class of the day during high school. I felt that gut shot feeling like when you get a test back and you see a big, red, circled F on the top of the cover. I didn't watch many games that season because I would always be reminded of that feeling.
@TwoHeadedMonster His son. Rutherford's wife looks a generation younger than him.

@Hibbits The Smithfield Bridge is calling your name...
I completely disagree with you. I've done a 180 on Rutherford since the start of free agency. He hasn't made the signings I wanted to see (Jokinen, Niskanen), but he's avoided quite a few landmines (Glass, Orpik, Engelland). Hopefully, his--who look to be solid--pickups (Erhoff, Greiss, Comeau) also pan out.

@jammonstrald @DoorMatt I would have to agree with you. It seems like Niskanen is trying to maximize his market value. Various hockey sources on twitter are saying that he's been holding up deals to get more money.
@jammonstrald Wow... Did not see that type of money coming for Engelland. I'm gonna say that's not quite Orpik-type craziness, but what were they thinking?
@mingtown Sutter is an RFA, and the Pens put qualifying offers on all their RFAs. With the way things are looking around the league, I don't think any team is going to try and swoop in on Sutter with an above average contract.
@dmacpgh The biggest problem with thinking Orpik's deal is going to affect Niskanen's FA market value is that most GMs will see that the Orpik deal is batshit insane and discard the deal as an outlier when coming up with a value for Niskanen. Although, I think Niskanen is worth at least $5.75M AAV.
Is Iginla really worth $5.3M AAV over the next three years? I am gonna say no.
Drazenovic re-ups. I wasn't aware that WBS Baby Pens were being tracked at the NHL level...
I can't believe that the Capitals are still falling for this shit? They fire McPhee and get MacLellan, but they are still making McPhee type deals. Methinks that the GM in DC doesn't pull the strings...
@cblack66 We still have Bortuzzo right?
@dannyjimmy I think we should all start voting that we approve of the job GMJR is doing right now... I have to say he's playing the free agent market rather well so far.
@ujnhunter Probably not. I just checked it out using DownloadHelper on Firefox and they encoded the video to load as flash segments that aren't viable if downloaded individually.

@tonytroz Not trolling you, but have you read any of the stories on Rutherford before this? He isn't on a short leash, he's said himself that he's only going to be here a few years at most. He knows it's a short-term gig to groom Botterill, Billy G, or Fitzgerald. (Most likely Botterill if he doesn't leave before the Pens want to promote him.)
The fact that people would think he's working on a short leash makes less sense than what Rutherford said in the quote above.

Why do I feel like there's going to be some unseen Karmic Force that's going to fuck over the Penguins head coach search for how the situation with Dan Bylsma was handled?

He's already got the in-road because in "position applying for" line on his application for the GM job Pierre put "Any available".
@PenGeno @FeelTheDarkness What about Jacques Martin?
4 months, 3 weeks ago on Conversation @ http://thepensblog.com/2014-archives/report-dan-bylsma-fired.html
However, I do really like the move to retain Botterill. I think he's got a very bright future and possibly can become a strong replacement for Rutherford if things start going south.
4 months, 3 weeks ago on Conversation @ http://thepensblog.com/2014-archives/report-the-pens-new-gm-will-be-jim-rutherford.html
So the Pens just hired the same guy they fleeced to get Jokinen and pay his salary for a bag of pucks?
@Thunder_Eagle My only concern is if you bring in Pierre, do you force out Botterill? If so, then yeah we've got a problem. But if Botterill stays, then Pierre doesn't have to be a strong numbers GM and can ease into being a GM.

@jacort16 @mcclusap If you want to talk about faceoffs, at least be reasonable when you bring up that he's 75% on them. He's 75% on 4 faceoffs. 4! That's nowhere near someone like... Crosby, Sutter, or Goc who all took at least 10 faceoffs. Goc ended up 50% and Crosby and Sutter were a little better.
Let's look at the past two games for Vitale:
Game 2: Faceoffs = 7 Faceoff Wins = 2 (29%) (Not too great, eh? Btw, the rest of the forwards except Malkin were 50% or better that game.)
Game 1: Faceoffs = 3 Faceoff Wins = 1 (33%) (Sid was abysmal in this game (32% on 19 faceoffs), but the rest of the forwards with >3 faceoffs posted >50% wins, even Malkin (who has a 43% faceoff win percentage) posted 64%)
So, don't start throwing out stats unless you're willing to dig deeper and find some context.

Are we sticking with twerking Iceburghette because she won Game 3? If not, I think screaming Kramer may be the way to go for tonight.
6 months, 1 week ago on Conversation @ http://thepensblog.com/
@HYJYNX @DoorMatt I'd have to agree on the faceoff thing (52% career), plus he'll eat up PK minutes and can play as a winger in a pinch.
I heard Goc was in the morning skate today. If the Pens take this series, does he get healthy and really juice up the 4th line? Man, with Bennett-Sutter-Megna on the 3rd line and Goc centering the 4th line... I think things could be looking up.
@PenGeno Maybe if Goc gets healthy before this series is over, 15 can take a run at Dubinsky.

@pirate21 I like the idea of Bortuzzo bringing a physical presence against the Blue Jackets, but from what I've seen, he's just as melt down prone as Letang and less skilled. At least Letang won't end up fighting anyone.
@Rick_City @DoorMatt I would have let it slide, but it's the playoffs!
Sens player to watch? Is that supposed to be a "We don't care, lol" joke?
@Mr. Confidence How many "ku:n"s (for the linguistics experts) are in the Pens organization now? I lost count after Kuhnhackl.
