I must disagree with your comment that pettifoggers understand the plain meaning of the Constitution. Many if not most liberals and progressives are truly aliterate (not illiterate). Committed to an irrational worldview how can they understand the Constitution?

@jtrailroad what they're taught is that it violates the Constitution. However, they aren't taught the basis for the Constitution but rathe are taught constitutional law thru court rulings. But if a court ruling somewhere down the line is constitutionally incorrect yet accepted, their whole house of cards collapses.
@thepublicinformer88 I'd like to hear your specific objections to the 14th Amendment. However, the States do have the right to remove Amendments. What I'd liker to see us do is to join the rest of the industrialized nation who have rejected automatic citizenship for anchor babies.
I'd love to see the proposed Write the Bills, Read the Bills, One Subject at a Time, and the Enumerated Powers Acts adopted as Amendments. They can be found on DownsizeDC.org. In addition, I'd like to see an Amendment defining Natural Born Citizen and requiring candidate for federal office publicly submitting verifiable proof for eligibility required for the positions.
I don't see the rationale that a representative or senator should be prevented from voting his conscience on pain of prison or death. It smack of absolute democracy which is perhaps the worst form of government ads Jefferson pointed out. I'd like to see for a way to either to impeach or recall them, however. Speaking of impeachment, I'd like to see a way for the States to be able to demand impeachment proceedings. We have a president who has clearly violated the Constitution as Congress refuses to hold him responsible.
Obama declared war on Libya without consulting Congress. He made appointments without getting Senate approval. He has use agencies and EOs to implement laws that Congress rejected. He has declared he has the right to declare citizens enemies of the sate and have them executed without due process of law.
I''ll also add a very controversial comment. More and more I find that the Benghazi tragedy wasn't a mere matter of incompetence or even gross dereliction of duty. This incident borders on treason as defined by the Constitution. If such is determined and Congress has the integrity and courage to impeach, convict, and remove him for treason then the penalty should be appropriate for such grave offenses. Even if it's a matter of dereliction of duty, it's reason enough to impeach and remove Obama.
