Larry O'Brien was the NBA Commissioner not a "former NBA coach."

I don't mind Diaw playing for France. In fact, I think it's good for him. It helps him to stay in shape and it gives him a chance to better his game. So, no, I do not want this insurance thing to persist. Although, these tune-ups don't really matter for guys like Diaw.

@Rambler Maybe we should call them versatile versatilists . . . I think of this move towards positionlessness not as guys who don't have positions, but as guys who can play multiple positions, like you mentioned. It makes the term positionless a misnomer. Perhaps it should be called positionful.

Cheap shot Lebron jeff, c'mon, as Mark Jackson would say: "you're better than that."
Patty had to play through it, otherwise his career w/ the spurs might have been over. It was, basically, his last chance to prove that he belonged and that he was more than just a towel waver at the end of the bench.

Are you sure Canada is getting ready for the FIBA World Cup? I thought they didn't qualify. Checking FIBA, I don't see Canada as one of the participants.
@mdeleon @merkin I'm sure there are Spurs fans like @FrenchSpursFanSince1998 that would be willing to help.

Surely, this is being coordinated by the Spurs. Having Hanga and Bertans play together is preparation for the future.

The knock on him is that he's a tweener, but the NBA is becoming a league filled with tweeners. He should at least get an invite to camp.

terrible translation. you got to stop using google translations. what the hell does "That is why I am a little hitched this year," mean?
@INSANE99 You're confusing your seasons. Manu broke his elbow the yr the Spurs finished #1 in the West. The yr they finished #7 they beat Dallas in the first rd. and then got swept by the Suns. That was the yr. Manu broke his nose vs. Dallas (Remember he had that big ol' maxi-pad on his nose).

Everybody steals from everybody, Spurs included. For instance, from Sloan's Jazz and even parts of the triangle.
8 months, 3 weeks ago on The NBA is Watching the Spurs and Changing Their Tune
This game showed that it is still a process with Kawhi on the offensive end. If he wants to get where he wants to get, he needs to understand that he has to be aggressive every game. He can't take nights off on offense and be passive. But that will come with time as he figures out how best to attack on any given night.

The Heat/Spurs rivalry has a new element: which brittle boned baller makes more of a contribution.

Can you stop bringing up the phantom Ray Allen travel--he did not. If he travelled, then Parker travelled on his step-back three. Neither travelled and Neal is right--it never should have come to that.

Watching a little Belinelli at EU basket, I was pleasantly surprised at his passing off the pick-n-roll. If you squint you're eyes, Marco looks like an old Manu making cross court passes for open 3s. Notice, I said an old Manu. A young Manu there is no comparison.

@alamoaggie08 @merkin No, I think he is putting his psychology degree to good use.
1 year ago on Hibbert trains with Duncan, thanks Spurs
Don't think this is purely a selfless act. No, TD is also scouting Roy for the 2x they play each other. Ever since Roy started working with Tim, Tim's been able to keep Roy in check when Spurs play Pacers b/c he knows what moves and where on the floor Roy likes.
It's really going to come down to Diaw: if he stays in shape and shows the requisite commitment, then the Spurs will bring him back given his versatility and BB IQ.
1 year ago on Diaw taking a wait-and-see approach with future in San Antonio
Jeff, you do know that playing in the D-League would have taken up a Spurs roster spot--yes? Going overseas is the best way for him to play while not taking up a Spurs roster spot.

1 year, 1 month ago on Report: Richards to play basketball in Dubai next season
@Spursfan66 Right on the money. The Austrian League he played in last season looked like a bunch of high-schoolers, I can only imagine what Dubai will look like.
Mills is not a point guard, he's a 2-guard in a PG's body. He doesn't have the play making capabilities necessary to be a good pg--he's a gunner. Like Neal's short-lived experiment at pg, Mill's value is simply as a shooter and offensive spark off the bench.
1 year, 1 month ago on Mills discusses playing for Spurs and more
This is good news. The last thing you want is KL needlessly putting added stress on that knee. You know, being a gymrat, he's gonna be working hard during the offseason and rather that than this. It seems like this summer, Spurs management asked some guys to bypass international competition for personal work and rest (Splitter, Manu and now KL). If only the French contingent (mainly, Parker) were as accommodating.
1 year, 1 month ago on Spurs' Leonard won't participate in USA Basketball Mini-camp
@aespurs If I'm not mistaken, you can't do that--even if you send him to the D-League he still takes up a roster spot, ala Joseph and Baynes and Nando last season. They all counted as roster spots regardless if they were in the D-League or w/ Spurs.
1 year, 1 month ago on Buford discusses Thomas and possibility of earning 15th roster spot
I hope Neal doesn't resign (quit), I hope he re-signs, but I'd also like to see Thomas make the team.
1 year, 1 month ago on On Deshaun Thomas And The Spurs Final Roster Spot
As a backup 3, he can prob. guard opposing backup 3's. But I think his biggest strength would be playin' with KL as the small ball 4. To take a recent example: he would've been ideal guarding a guy like Miller (easy) while being able to go at him on offense.
1 year, 1 month ago on Deshaun Thomas has eyes on Spurs back up small forward spot
Let'im play, he's not expected to get big (30+) minutes w/ the Spurs so fatigue wouldn't be a factor. I would much rather see Parker sit this one out, he's been playin' way too much basketball the last couple years.
1 year, 1 month ago on Belinelli eager to play Eurobasket but waiting ‘permission’ from Spurs
I'm always hearing how tough it is for new players to pick up the Spurs system (off. & def.). With that in mind, I'm weary of picking up new players, who'll take a yr. to get acclimated, when the clock is fast approaching midnight on TD's career. The Spurs need another playmaker and that's where they should concentrate their efforts. And even with that it's gonna take time for whoever it is to learn where the plays are there to be made.

I just hope he doesn't go the way of James Anderson, he was never the same after the same injury.
1 year, 7 months ago on Denmon returns to the practice court for Elan
My hope for him this yr. is to just rebound. Right now, the second unit struggles on the glass and especially when Duncan goes to the bench. I like how the combo of Tiago and Timmy is progressing, but the lack of a good rebounder on that second unit has caused Pop to be creative w/ his subs. For instance, now Tiago comes in for Timmy and plays with Diaw as part of that 2nd unit. If this guy can rebound effectively, I can see Pop leaving Timmy and Tiago out there longer and have Boris and Baynes anchor that 2nd unit.
1 year, 7 months ago on Baynes knows what he can bring to the Spurs
15th season? Try 16th.
1 year, 7 months ago on Nuggetsâ Karl wants McGee to be more âDuncan-likeâ
I don't think it's going backwards, it's just slow to develop. I think Pop is taking a long term approach--no need to overburden the youngin with scoring responsbility when the team has no problems scoring. Instead Pop wants him to focus on the defensive end and allow his offense to progress slowly.
1 year, 7 months ago on Trust factor helping Splitter improve
I thought it was going to be Kawhi's improvement that might push the Spurs over the top, but lo' and behold it might be Splitter's.
You see that fan in the front row that nearly jumped on to the court, trying to distract TP as he pulled up for the shot--that should not be allowed.
1 year, 7 months ago on Video: Parker sends the game into OT
The Spurs struggled vs. the Clipps last reg. season as well, and if not for a fluke t.o. would have lost the series 2-1. But in the playoffs we saw what happened, so I wouldn't take too much away from these losses other than the Clipps are the best team in L.A. right now.

I'm confused, he has the Spurs as 5th in the West and Memphis at 4, but on espn.com he has Spurs winning the Southwest. If Memphis is at 4, above the Spurs, then they should be winning the SW division.

There is no way De Colo is going to the D-League. Why would you bring in a guy who was playing in the top league in Spain only to send him down, it's a waste and an insult. He may not get a ton of playing time but he's going to be on the Spurs roster not Toros.
