Good work, SN- this was a nice overview of the key points in Nike's deep tennis legacy. There are a few missing items (the pre-Air Tech Challenge-era Air Play and Air Ace are under-appreciated) but you hit on most of the highlights.
One correction that I feel obligated to point out, though-- the legendary MacAttack came out in 1985, and in not one but two colorways. There was a rarer white/white/black colorway that served as his Wimbledon shoe. I remember finding them at a place called Sneaky Feet that specialized in markdowns and irregulars. This was back in the days of mom driving me to the mall. The greys were only available at a store called Athlete's Foot, but I found mine at a Marshalls a few months later. If only I'd known back then what they'd sell for today...
I've posted a photo from someone in Australia who had both colors:

Very much digging the Hyperposite 2. The silhouette is clean and that big visible air sole looks really comfortable.

I'm not a big fan of this design, but mostly because the old one is so classy, but I didn't like it when adidas went from the trefoil to that angular three stripe thing back in the 90s, either. I got used to it over time, and adidas eventually brought back the old trefoil with their originals line.
As long as Reebok classics keep making them money, they'll still make kicks with the old logo.

@DavidWalter I totally agree. These should be in the regular rotation and the custom program is a great way to keep them there. Look at all the options you can make out of the Instapump Fury.

I simply don't remember these and I thought I was pretty well schooled on Nike Air Trainers. The mid-cut with the crossover straps I remember and they've been retro'd at least once, but these must have been pretty obscure.

@EvilRamen Except for the fact that he's never been the highest-paid player on the team in any of the 11 seasons he was with the Cavs and Heat already. Now that he has a couple of rings, I say let the man earn his keep.

These (and the OG 8000 colorway) are the nicest of the Flux Weaves and exactly how adidas should deploy the weave tech. While it does seem to imitate the Flyknits, I much prefer the look of these to the mostly ugly colorways on the Flyknits.

@r3dnax3la Same here. I grabbed the 'King's Pride' about a week after they released after drooling over pics in SN and other shoe blogs. I don't hoop in them, but they are one of the most comfortable pair of shoes I've ever put on my feet. They look sick and I don't really care whether LBJ wore them as much because his feet are a mess.
And it's not like he never wore them. Here's a solecollector article pointing out that he wore the 11 or 11 Elite models a total of 35 times over the season:

If your feet are small, you can wear 'em. I saw a dude rocking these on the subway today. Didn't think these were in adult sizes. Brother must have some tiny feet.

A future iconic design, mark my words. This and the LeBron11 push the envelope for the 'posites. While ppl throw down $250+ for Foams and FoamPros and pay resellers ridiculous mark-ups, I'll take these all day at $180 retail.

Very surprised to see this obscure colorway return. These were pretty hard to track down and will definitely sell like crazy to people who know what's what.
In fact, isn't the checkerboard thing a reference to John McEnroe? He was reaching his final years when Agassi was in his prime.

@RecklessRocc_ Good call. There are so many excellent kicks that sell for discount that compare to some of the hottest hyped heat. Reebok and adidas have been killing it with retros that are better than the originals. Crazy8s, KB1s, the FYW line, the Reebok retro and reserve collections are seriously good shoes. Even classics like the Flight '89s were going for $60 a pair on nike.com's clearance and places like Foot Action and Jimmy Jazz. That's like $20 less than what the OGs debuted for.
4 months, 3 weeks ago on Massive Campout Forces Supreme To Cancel Foamposite Release
These are excellent. I dig they kept the FYW logo on the side. Now if only adidas will retro the Trident TR runner. I've got two pair that are virtually unwearable due to cracking of the leather upper and badly want them to return.

The case is amazing, but why it's coupled with these green monstrosities is a complete mystery. Didn't anyone at Nike think 'How about we make these in Bulls team colors?'
Between these and those Air Max 3.26s, my theory about the Nike design team sharing a meth pipe is starting to look more and more accurate.

I really would like to have seen the meeting where they decided on the color of that sole. Were they smoking meth? I was really hoping that these would be true OG but Nike screws it all up again.

Again, the title of the article for the product is wrong. Again, these aren't Chukkas.
The first instance of the Footscape Woven upper was as a low-cut runner with a 360 sole in a one-time-only release (in 2004, I think). Then came a couple more variations of that, as well as the Bodega low, before they added the ankle side panel to turn them into a chukka.
At any rate, these are among the most comfortable shoes you're ever likely to lace up. My Bodega black cats always draw questions and compliments, too. Definitely head-turning kicks that you don't see every day.

These aren't chukkas. These are simply the Footscape Woven Motion. The chukka adds an ankle-high panel while these are pure low-cut.

An SC1 (when it came out, it was simply the SC) mixed with the TW2 and given a nice full-length visible air unit. These are about as close to the original TW2s as they've come.

The quote at the end says it all- it's nice to see his recognition and appreciation of the fact that they're not just re-issuing retros of shoes he wore, but making new designs with his name on them. That's really got to feel great.
That said, the Penny Posites are amazing - release them already!

I never thought I'd want anything AJ since the VI, but these are fire. Woven, a crazy lacing system, and an outsole that looks insane. Please let me be the only one liking these-- I don't want to get sucked into any stupid raffle/wait-in-line nonsense.
OK- where's the Air Trainer 3 (aka the original Air Trainer SC) in medicine ball. That and no Air Trainer TW or TW2 (which we now get as an SB bastardization). Weird, too, how the Air Trainer 1 in the photo has a nylon mesh toebox. I've never seen one like that in the original chlorophyll colorway.

These definitely retro-ed a short while ago. You could generally get them for around $100 last time around. That 'lava' is still a little loud for me, but they hold up nicely 20-odd years later.

No swoosh, but a rivet hole on each shoe where the swoosh should be... they look like factory rejects.

I personally really like the placement of the swoosh on the XIs- the way it wraps over the foot is just perfect. These definitely look like knock-offs without it.

I haven't worn them on court, so for just walking around the toebox hasn't been too much of an issue. I can imagine that stopping and starting and pushing off the forefoot quickly for any extended period with these might be a bit more abusive on the toes.
Nike should be working overtime to make these fit their signature player. Maybe even make the new, roomier toebox a NikeID option.
8 months, 2 weeks ago on LeBron James Speaks Out on Not Wearing the LeBron 11
It seems strange that these don't fit the man for whom they were specifically designed. They definitely play-tested them over the summer, because there were articles here showing him wearing a taped-over pair of demos. Something must have changed between then and production. It's definitely a credit to their design that sales haven't suffered from Lebron not wearing them in games.
The XIs are narrower in the toe than just about any shoe I've worn in a while. I ordered a half size up from my usual size and the toebox is still a bit cramped. It's just the way the armorposite wrap comes over the top of the toe-- they could stand to mold an extra 1/8" of vertical space into that section. Despite the narrow toe, though, the XIs are incredibly comfortable, especially around the pivot point and heel.
These make perfect sense and look great doing it.
8 months, 3 weeks ago on Jordan Son of Mars Low “Knicks”
I never did understand the appeal of the Yeezys. The recycled Air Tech Challenge outsole came off as lazy and that weird spiky heel thing on the 2s came off as just odd.
I can understand Kanye being upset by Nike not giving him more creative freedom, especially in light of how popular his first two models were, but Nike can survive without him and the one shoe he puts out each year.
I'm no big fan of Y-3, either. I've always seen that brand as an overpriced, under-innovated collaboration with a rather uninteresting line of products. I also think the big, blocky Y-3 on all their products looks kind of cheesy and unimaginative. I wish Stella McCartney would start designing men's shoes, because most of her designs blow away anything Yohji Yamamoto has done for adidas.
