This is a sharp analysis, Nathaniel. New York City may be highly regulated, but if you live here you know that the regulations pretty much work (yeah, yeah yeah: it'd be great to have more yellow cabs, but in general). I live an outer borough and cabs (either official NYC taxis or black cars) are consistently cheaper and easier to hail than cabs in any city I've ever been to. The problem with Uber's messaging in NYC is that our taxis are, compared to other cities, awesome. I hope Uber can figure out a way to get their Taxi app working, but I think the rhetoric yesterday was way off.
