You were probably unaware of the many people gaining a lot of money and power by being the men in the middle.
@UNOwen Yet in the new millennium someone could aspire to something better than stay in the traffic shouting at taxis until one stops. That is where apps like Taxi Professional or the Uber's one, should it want to return to NY, could tap in by allowing users to make reservations while sipping a cocktail at home or finishing a dinner at a restaurant.
I am afraid, as an European, and more exactly Italian, I am more experienced than you most probably are about encroached interest damaging the community for the interest of a few ones...
There is the story of the frog than when put in the hot water would jump to safety, but when put in cold water on the fire would end up boiled. And this metaphor is perfect on the way to uproot potent corporations... without a bazooka.
Frankly I do not see how it is possible to kill an app in a city. At most people using it could be fined if found with the app installed on their device, although that could be probably considered ominous in Saudi Arabia, but I do not think any government could restrict the download of an app from the iTunes store, without convincing Apple that app is against its own policies.
This market must be entered carefully as there are everywhere entrenched interests benefitting greatly from the closure of markets. That happens in NY, Berlin and even in Rome where I market my in Arrivo app and its Taxi Professional companion. That is where the european way of dealing with change works better than the US one. Where little is better than big, so to progress unnoticed until able to dent itself to the process without unnerving anyone until it is too late for them and their petty interests.
Disappointed NY clients may replace Uber's service with the In Arrivo one. What will also offer them the possibility to have a comprehensive access to all public services in their next visit to Rome.
