 @akristofcak I wish this could happen, sort of like a freelance royalty payment method.  What prevents me is a) no easy way for me to have a digital changepurse for such payments, and b) no similar thing at the other end.  I hate paypal, is there some other service that would fit the bill?

I find it a bit odd that Sarah and the commenters all seem to assume that the high-quality writers and reporters are or should be coming up from the ranks, when tens of thousands of skilled journalists were laid off or marginalized only in the past seven years.  We haven't gone bad just yet, though we may be a bit whiff.
