And whose fault is this that great writers aren't being made/taught/mentored anymore? It's not just a lack of talent. It's a culture that tells people my age that you do not have a future in journalism. That print sucks and the people that work for them (the people you wish you had writing your content) don't do shit and are part of the problem. Every day of my senior year in J school, I was reminded by a professor or a classmate that the industry was dying and good luck finding a job. Hopelessness has permeated this field for so long, Tumblr and Buzzfeed can't change that by throwing up an email form and asking for submissions. We have universities that are eliminating their journalism programs all together. Is it any surprise you can't find somebody young with the skills to create this stuff? That's great that people have finally figured out that they kinda like long form content that's about something other than cats and GIFs. However, I think the demand for it is a day late and a dollar short. And the traditional media bashing from everyone online doesn't help. Where the heck were all these people who loveeee 100 inch stories 10 years ago, I wonder.
2 years, 3 months ago on Suddenly everyone wants New Yorker style content. Only one catch: Who is going to write it?
