i love some of the pictures you have of the late senator.... he sure had a rascal smile! :) great to see the candid shots of him laughing instead of posed shots. thank you for sharing these memories of such a heroic man who will be sorely missed.
looks good! i did crest whitestrips a while back and those worked and/but i didn't notice any sensitivity. was thinking about doing something like this again... maybe this is the answer! thanks for sharing this info!
i love "what not to wear" and its hosts, clinton and stacy! let's see your WNTW outfits! :)
i love bairin but guess i will now have to try kimukatsu to make sure you are right! ;o) lol. i would like to try kimukatsu - at least to see how much difference the layers of pork make. sounds interesting (though, not as much so in your review!?).
@Melissa808 - been to bairin a few times and their tonkatsu has been awesome! melt in your mouth and juicy deliciousness!
looks like this is a place with staying power! i've seen so many restaurants come and go at that location over the years... it's been kinda sad! the food looks great and i can't wait to try it!
beautiful! i love that sunset picture! and, of course, still jealous that you were fortunate enough to catch the northern lights during your stay! i guess good food is a relative thing, eh? (and, your palate is more spoiled than most of ours! lol.)
sounds yummy! haven't been there for a long time... guess it's time for a revisit... and time to use my gift card! (ruth's chris is your client? my favorite restaurant! their food and service are consistently awesome!)
dang! i haven't been to maui for a while and we've been talking about going. this is gonna sway me towards going for sure! btw, add me to the list of people jealous of your adventures... ;) (hi jlieu !)
right in my neighborhood! i'm so lucky to live nearby all of these wonderful places to eat... i think i need to stay in my 'hood to eat more often! i haven't tried alicia's yet, though... need to go there!
looks amazing!! $90 is pricey but it's not like you eat stuff like that every day - it is so creative! now i have to go back to seattle!
just went there a couple of weeks ago... love their honey walnut shrimp! they give lots of walnuts... my favorite part... and the breading on the shrimp is very light. everything else was yummy, too!
i agree that technology has made LDR's much, much easier. no need to worry about the long distance telephone charges, especially if you have the same cell carrier - you only need to figure out what time it is on the other side. you feel so much more connected when you can hear someone's voice over the phone on a daily basis, if only to share small anecdotes or what you bought from the market.
with your busy schedules and the time difference, it will likely help to set some kind of schedule. also, while technology is great, don't underestimate the power of a handwritten letter. they are still wonderful to receive and so much more personal than an e-mail - a nice surprize every so often.
you're both committed (especially if you're engaged - congratulations to you and derek!) and you have the tools to make the best of it, though it won't necessarily be easy. i'm sure you'll be seeing a lot more of wisconsin than you ever thought! ;o)
it's a good thing i didn't go follow you upstairs at yogur story! lol. i would only have gone upstairs to look for the bathroom and/but i was a little curious what it looked like up there! (the food was yummy and it was nice to see you, by the way!) if i happen to see you at petals and beans, it will be because i went looking for chocolate doughnuts! lol. but, i know you're busy working... i don't get why people don't understand that by now?!?
nicely written! i've been told that a great picture shows the soul of a photographer - i think a great story shows the soul of a writer, as well. you let us in with this one. thank you for sharing your experiences in osaka with us!
@turkfontaine - you brought back a long forgotten memory! my family used to go down to the redondo beach pier to buy live dungeness crabs. after we got them home, i'd be amazed by the live animals in the pot that gradually stopped their shuffling as the water got hotter. we could smell the crabs cooking as we'd wait by the dinner table which was covered with newspaper for our hands-on feast! we couldn't wait to start cracking those crab shells so we could dip the sweet meat in melted butter! mmmmmmmmmmm... hmm... now i want to eat crab! lol.
Bacon! Reminds me of my dad cooking breakfast while I was still sleeping... but he'd always save a few slices for me to eat when I woke up!
bum. (that's my beef jerky comment... i haven't had it in years!! :-( )
i think i'd go the the ritz carlton just to try that dessert cart! lol. the other dishes looked amazing, too. i still have to get myself to tartine bakery and all those other places you've visited! thanks for taking us along!
there's still quite a few oldies but goodies... thank goodness, 'cause i have lots of favorites! :)
sekiya's - love their hash tempura
kenny's - koreen fried chicken is the best!
mitsuba - sweet potato crumbles... mmm... so good when they are still warm!
kim chee I to ? - meat jun!
royal kitchen - best baked manapua ever!
is it lunchtime yet? ;)
matti2d snow thanks for the tip! i've never actually made a meatloaf! but, since my oven doesn't work (it's really old and broken!) maybe i need to get someone to take me to roy's! ;O)
my favorite chocolate souffle! sooooo good! i don't remember what entree i ate the last time i went to roy's but i will always remember what i had for desert! that meatloaf looks delicious! now i want "good" meatloaf and mashed potatoes, too... mmm.... :)
