Jason Tobin is a bad ass, I love that actor. I can definitely see him in that role sort of like Ryan Gosling in "The Believer." Americans need to see more actors like Tobin. My only concern is, it brings back bad memories of the Virginia Tech shooter. But bravo to you and I hope you get your funding because it could generate controversies. And controversies can be a good thing because it can get people's interest.

@JayL86 Remember, males are usually the pursuers trying to mate with any females. What you're analysis about asian men "trying too hard" can be said for any ethnicity of men. The only difference with asian men compared to other races is that there aren't enough asian men in the U.S. for white women to experience. Human beings in general socialize the best with who they know.

@Able8 That's very interesting about your grandmother. Thanks for sharing that. There is a word used to call someone who passes off being more white "passing" and I've seen previews of J.Edgar movie which is about J.Edgar Hoover so I decided to read about him online. What's interesting was that J.Edgar Hoover may have had African-American ancestry but it's said he was so full of hate towards blacks, he would go after anyone who would wanted to do some background research on him. The other FBI agents would talk to each other about how Hoover had a unique look, with his thick hair, curly, darker skin, and they suspect he has African-American origin.

@Able8 point of view of the minority I mean.
In a big city like NYC, I am not surprised at all from Lilikoi's experience. You say you're a white guy, try to take a point of the minority. There have been racist incidents in NY, like the hate crime in Howard Beach, Queens. There were also police brutality towards minority when Giuliani was mayor. He did clean up the city, but he did it in a brutal way. NOPE, I disagree the usual interracial couples are even with rare interracial couples.
Depends where you're at. I saw on ABC national news the other day asians are a rising population especially in the southwest and southeast. There are 17 million asians living in the U.S.
I thought this movie was alright. For some reason, these movies seem to get less funnier and seem to get more contrived type of humor. I like the fact these movies were consistently low budget considering they're more for a certain audience, though it would nice to see a big budget film with two asian leads without the asian reasoning. But I suppose since U.S. is a English speaking country, non white actor in a big budget Hollywood film for the lead role would not be fair.

That's too bad you had to leave. Those guys that wanted to physically challenge did it out of fear, because it's not usual to see asian guy with non asian woman (though Native Americans are related to Asians).
Also, Hawaii, Alaska, and Seattle are all in the west coast where the perception is that usually people judge you by getting to know you first rather than judging you without knowing anything about you. NYC is diverse but it's east coast attitude where the perception is that they judge you first before getting to know you. Once New Yorkers get to know you, they're not as mean. I know this for a fact because I had a friend who was born in Portland, lived in Seattle all her life and wanted to experience New York, and she lived in NYC for couple years. She was saying Portland and Seattle seems much more relaxed than NYC, everything seems so fast paced, city that never sleeps.
And again both candlelightglow and The_Curiosity are missing the whole point. True all the characters have faults, but they're likeable except Chang. THERE'S NOTHING TO LIKE ABOUT CHANG, he has no redeeming qualities! Why is it whenever you see an asian character that they have to be a certain way... because they're asian? And often times they're usually negative!
2 years, 10 months ago on Is NBC's Community Racist?
Regardless if the viewers feel Chang is the most abused or not, that's not the point. Even if you point out the faults for the white characters, they're not based on their race. And Chang fits just about all the negative stereotypes the Asian-American community is trying to avoid.
You're an idiot candlelightglow, there are very very few (or hardly at all) cool recognizable asians in hollywood, I doubt Chang swoons any females from his hotness!
Even it's a remake, the story is still taken from another person's idea. I don't blame anyone for casting Brolin for the film but there are talented Asian American actors out there like Ken Leung and Russell Wong.

@franko76 Yes, but the guy still comes across as being ignorant and Dave Chappelle at one point cancelled his show because people were laughing at him instead of laughing with him.

"People are ignorant because they're afraid"
I meant "These individuals who made these videos are ignorant because they're afraid."
Neither video is funny nor are they interesting to me. I have to admit they're brave to make these videos, and I even wonder if they care about they're own reputation (like Alexandra had to move because of death threats). I just don't understand why they would be stupid enough to make a fool of themselves, risking they're image, plus be incredibly annoying thinking they are funny. Maybe this is a start of a new fad now, making of fun of asians, because after all even Miley Cyrus thinks asians aren't cool nor does the rest of the American entertainment industry for that matter. These idiots like Miley needs to open up to the asian community and try to be appreciative of the culture and people instead of making apologies or ignoring the people who were hurt they've caused. The more people who are hurt, the more they get angry, and when people get angry, some may want to cause violence. People are ignorant because they're afraid, I just sense some fear with these videos.
@jae NO! I'm saying there seems to be a perception the usual interracial couples are OK compared to the rare ones, according to this article, how hard is that to understand?? I'm just pointing out what this article is trying to say, and you're just philosophizing which is fine, I'm not disagreeing with you, but you're going off topic of this article and I was just agreeing with Pamela.
3 years, 1 month ago on Why Do People Hate Asian Male/White Female Relationships?
No offense, but the two interracial couples you mentioned are not viewed the same. I agree there is generalization and stereotyping regardless of the race from society for interracial couples (and there is going to be people that just hate because they can) but there is still a perception that certain interracial couples are unfairly being marginalized due to the fact they're not as common. And when you do see those rare pairings, there seems to be a lot more hate than the usual interracial couples we see and why does it really matter? That's the whole point of this article.
I don't need advise to pick up on women, it's really what does the spark. I think physical attraction doesn't necessarily have to be a certain racial preference despite some women of all races who judge asian men as being least attractive physically. If the individual is themselves and charming, I don't see how any woman cannot find that attractive. Granted there are many negative stereotypes (some downright ugly like the asexual asian man in the Hangovers, Long Duk Dong, William Hung) but that shouldn't stop you from trying. We need to be more supportive of filmmakers like Fred Weintraub, Justin Lin, filmmakers of Harold and Kumar, Ninja Assassin, instead of BS movies like 21, Dragonball Evo, The Last Airbender who are not even trying at all to represent asians. I'm surprised many who work in the American Entertainment industry like M Night and Dragonball Evo director, and talent agents (many whom are asians) are not helping at all for better representation of asians....they've actually made things worse.
