Melissa,

This pastry is very special in Japan and Taiwan.  In Taiwan they call it cartwheel cake or wheel cart in Chinese.  It filled with red bean paste or green bean paste or custard filling. It really street food at it best. There none in San Francisco that have it so people in Honolulu should try it out and enjoy it.

Gin dui is not as easy to make even with recipe.  I try to make it and ended up hit the deck and take cover for it explode on me.  The temperature was too high I guess.  My mother and grandmother made it well.

There so many different way to make it some with brown sugar other white sugar.  It a skill I see so special in making it and these Chinese women got it down very good.

I still trying and have not given up at all and maybe one day get it right.

Melissa, I use to do feng shui and reason I stop for it worked too well.  I wanted to do love feng shui and set up things for it.  In no time guys started to show interest in my daughters from all over.  Even my youngest one who shy got guys hitting on her also.   What funny was the feng shui was meant for me only since I was a widow.  It backfire and ended up on my daughters instead.

Now two daughters married and one to go.  I also now a grandmother too.  As for me yes I have someone in my life .  He happen to be my late husband best friend now my one and only.

Feng Shui do well one thing all must do is to keep home clean and neat for engery to flow all over your home for good luck for you .

Wonder if that little grocery store up Liliha St. and Alewa Ht. still there?  That time sold shaved ice also.

In San Francisco it not easy to find Island Style shaved ice any where.  I ask a Taiwanese shop in the city and they said it sound so plain and boring to them.  So I settle for a slurppie at 7-11 instead. It nearest to shaved ice.

I must keep up with the time and changes.  I always prefer Black Label and found it very fine.  When I was in Taipei be careful for they will past cheap scotch on you and push you to have it on the rock or with water.  I refuse and want it straight and sure enough it was not Black Label or any good scotch at all.
