Brian - what about some guys the Saints can sign to one-year prove-it deals?

Don't forget the inning in SF in Apr in which Puig dropped an easy fly ball but got the force at second.  This was followed by an unbelievable over the shoulder catch to end the inning.  Even the Giant fans were laughing and shaking their heads.  Puig is just fun to watch - hope he can find his stride.

@MarkSimpson1  Good analysis - what do you think about shortstop, mark?  I think as far as the bullpen, JP Howell needs to get used less as a situational lefty and more as a one-inning guy - I think he wore down at the end because he got up so often.

Some interesting notes:   The Dodgers hit .285/.342/.387 (avg. / obp / slugging) while the Cardinals hit .238/.284/.429 (more big hits by Cardinals).  The Dodgers left 35 on base to the Cardinals 18.  Kershaw’s line in innings 1-6 was 12-3-2-2-2-18 (IP-H-R-ER-BB-SO).  In inning 7 it was 0.2-9-9-9-0-1.  The Dodgers outscored the Cardinals 15-5 excluding the 7th inning but were outscored by the Cardinals 13-0 in the 7th.

Dodgers pitchers in the first six innings tallied a 1.13 ERA.  The ERA after that was 13.50.  The Cardinals hit 148/193/284 in the first six innings and 400/431/689 thereafter.

Why bat for Greinke in the 5th when you know you have a short (and unreliable) bullpen?

July 8 2014 - Tigers score 14 runs on 14 scoring plays.  Their BABIP for the game is .625.  June 27, 2011 - Dodgers score 15 runs on 15 scoring plays at Minnesota.  BABIP for the game is .524.  No idea what the record is for most single run scoring plays in a game is or what the best team BABIP for a game is.

Thanks, Mike - you made the first 72 games tolerable, the next 94 games the thrill of a lifetime and the final 6, well, tolerable again - sigh.  For what it's worth, Kershaw is 4-9 overall against the Cardinals and 1-6 in St Louis.  The Cardinals beat him 4 times this year - not all his fault, as he got Kershawed in game 1.  Clayton is 3-0 in NLDS play but 0-4 in NLCS play - something he'll get right, I'm sure.  Clayton only got Kershawed 8 times in the 2013 regular season (surrender 2 or fewer runs in 6+ innings, loss or no decision) compared to 9 times in 2012.

@DeucesWild My life as a Dodger fan started when my mom took me out of school to go to my grandparents house (they had a color TV) to watch Sandy Koufax pitch game 7 against the Twins in 1965.  My favorite 1988 memory was Scioscia's HR off of Doc Gooden in Game 5 of the NLCS - started a train that did not stop.  Hard to imagine 25 years have gone by without another title.

It's a little sarcasm - lighten up a bit.  It does, however, mean the offense is horrible, as I predicted at the end of the 2012 season.  In 2012, Bochy wasted far fewer ABs on clearly underperforming offensive players than Mattingly did - that's among the reasons the Giants win and the Dodgers don't.

Wow - 2300 words on AJ Ellis - that's just fantastic!  Hoping for a great 2013 from him if Donnie can just not have Gordon and Crawford at the top of the order.
