@kpkelleher Right, and that's where they would have to pull an Apple, and basically "make" the market like was done with iPods. With 3D printing, I don't see this happening overnight with consumer, but being a medium-term slog selling the tech to mid- / large-cap design and fabrication firms.
All in all, I think HP has to bite the bullet, and realize they're fundamentally a hardware company, and they need to mine bleeding-edge hardware tech (Kickstarter hunting?) that can either be marketed to consumer, or more-likely, enterprise customers.

I'm sure HP has no more money available for acquisition attempts, but gosh guys: if a large portion of your business involves the dated technology of paper printing ... I dunno ... buy MakerBot - make 3D a household phenomenon - INNOVATE!!
