As a Vol fan living in Nashville, I have nothing but the utmost respect for what Franklin has accomplished on West End. Living in this city through the horrible years that Vandy has had, I'm proud that they are out of the cellar in the SEC. Tennessee's problems have been created by Tennessee, not Vandy. The late Fulmer era, Mike Hamilton, Kiffen debacle, and the Dooley years are what caused the issues.
What about D'Andre Payne to Tennessee commitment yesterday? 4 star CB.
The chart says 7 commits for Tennessee, but 8 commits are listed (4 and 4).
Also, does this include D'Andre Payne who committed this morning?
Really excited with the way the Tennessee coaches and the committed recruits are pushing for more recruits to take a good look at Knoxville. Haven't been this excited about the future of the Vols program in years. GBO
I love the boost in recruiting for Tennessee over the last week. I hate that it isn't February 2014 though. These commits right now might not mean anything in 10 months when kids might be de-commiting.
If Tennessee can make it in after that awful showing at Georgia, they should consider themselves lucky. Reminded me of early in the season when McRae was the only scorer you could depend on.
Wow, that hurts. Graham was a Tennessee guy, who knew the area and was a damn fine recruiter.
Smartest decision Butch Jones made was also the simplest: Keeping Jay Graham on staff. That guy is worth every penny he gets. Now I want to see another assistant land a big fish.
Everyone knows that Chudzinski is just a smokescreen for Gruden to show up in Cleveland. Just keep waiting....
@Tired of waiting I wouldn't say 'nobody cares'. I care, because I like to see how my school is comparing to others in the conference.
Just shows you again how much James Franklin has done with that team only having used 4 true freshmen this year. Shows that they have enough upperclassmen talent to compete in the SEC. Amazing job.
That's probably for the best. Butch Jones needs a fresh start in Knoxville and while Hunter wasn't the problem that Bray or Rogers was, I had a feeling that he was playing all year with his mind on the NFL. I would love to keep Cordarelle around one more year but it appears that he'll probably be declaring any minute now.
I'm fine with getting Bray as far away from our team as possible.
If it's true that Tee will stay at USC, Coach Jones needs to find another SEC assistant. Too much of his staff is being brought from Cincinnati. We need more southeast ties.
@badbadhoggie Yes, he doesn't care about being successful and wants to lose the chance to get another job as an AD down the road because he has a vendetta.
@mikec1000000 This is the smartest thing I've seen all morning. Absolutely 100% correct. Head coaches can be great or bad but it all comes down to the staffs they bring with them. Dooley could have kept his job if Wilcox would have stuck around or if he could have brought in another coordinator with the same philosophy. I can't understand why Dooley would change the defensive scheme in a year where it was make or break. Unless he was forced to take on Sunseri for some reason.
@GeoffDawg @badbadhoggie I believe he's thinking Sewanee as the "Harvard of the South"
@etsu2k4 You realize that the Fulmer firing and Kiffen/Dooley hiring were done when Dave Hart was at Bama, right? Mike Hamilton is more to blame with the current issues than Hart. At least judge Hart after Butch Jones has coached a few games. Everyone is a critic before we see the results on the field.
Gotta wait it out. The guy is hired, it's over and done with. No amount of fan complaining is going to turn this ship around. He's going to be given some time to prove himself. At this point, let's see if he can get the job done. Anyone saying right now that he absolutely will fail is the same person saying that Gruden was in the bag. Go Vols!
The reason Tennessee is getting turned down (besides Strong being loyal to Louisville) is because of recruiting base and the number of great teams in the SEC. Tennessee doesn't have a lot of recruits in state that are Division I prospects. The 100,000+ stadium, the new complex, the great fanbase means nothing if you can't get the players you need to compete year in and year out. And with at least 6 teams (Bama, LSU, A&M, SC, Florida, Georgia) all being in the hunt for championships every year, it makes it difficult to win early and often. Any coach that comes here will be asked to win 9 to 10 games a season. And when you play Bama, SC, Florida, and Georgia every year (not to mention the chance of playing LSU and A&M every few years), winning 9 or more games is going to be a struggle. Let's face it, this is not the Top 20 job we thought it was. Hart might have to start looking at Petrino or assistants (Kirby Smart) or even Phil if this goes badly with the Golden, Fedora, and Pelini offers.
@j_scott_o @John at MrSEC And 10-11 games might not win the SEC Championship either. Georgia didn't win it this year (11 wins) or last year (10 wins), Florida in 2009 (12), Arkansas in 2006 (10), and LSU in 2005 (10). So winning '10-11 games a year' doesn't automatically guarantee SEC Championships. It might work with a Gundy style offense in the SEC, but if he comes with that same defense that he has at OK State, I don't see a difference with what Dooley was putting out this year. Especially if you get to Atlanta and the Tide or Tigers are bringing a powerful defense.
And if the rest of college football has their way, the playoff won't matter if you don't win the SEC.
