Sure, he may not have covered everything but he's living his life, covering what he loves and sharing his passion. Few are prepared to make the commitment so you should appreciate the fact that at least someone is out there sharing something that few will ever experience or even see. If you've lived there, you should know how difficult it is to cover everything over there. Despite the fact that it is a small country, it is jam-packed with culture. Sure, there are better Japanese journalists our there, but most people around the world are unable to read Japanese. I wouldn't be surprised if you struggled to read a Japanese newspaper...
